HTML disabled

I would like to know what exactly is the reason for disabling html on this frihost forums?

Is it due to security problem or something?

I wanted to know as I was wondering if activating HTML on my board was safe

Generally, activating html leads to a load of spamming - it allows spammers to drop a load of graphics-intensive advertising into the forum pages (like you get in your email inbox).

BBcode is active, which is much easier for people to use, and makes it more difficult for spammers. Instead of using codes like
Code:
<a href="yada yada yada">Some Text</ref>
you use
Code:
[url=yada yada yada]Some Text[/url]
which is generally much more user-friendly. BBcode also allows you to just put a return in to move to a new line. If you're using html, you need to use tags for them.

As far as I'm aware there is no benefit to activating html, but it's entirely up to yourself.

There are a few security risks with html. And it doesn't have any advantages over bbcode.

It's all security, the phpBB devs recommend disabling HTML too Wink.

You won't want something to happen because you enabled HTML.

Just putting a </table> tag accidentally in a post can screw a whole forum Wink.

I guess that is right..

Anyway I am not enabling it

I dont want to finish off my forum before starting it
