New Star Trek Movie - Good or Bad?

There is going to be a new Star Trek movie out sometime in 2008. It will be a prequel (ala the bad show Enterprise). It will be produced and directed by the guy in charge of Lost.

Is this a good thing or bad? Being a big fan of Star Trek since I watched the tv show as a kid, I will probably see it, but I am a little worried.

I think they are going further back in History than the show Enterprise. I think during Star Fleet acadamy. I think it's going to be all sfx and the story will be boring.

wow..everything seems to be going good for JJ Abrams (the guy behind Lost), he got to direct the new MI-3 movie and now he'll call the shots for Star trek..
u know frankly i'm not much of a fan of Star trek but maybe i'll watch the movie because JJ Abrams will definately do somethin' great abt it..

i agree that the proposed prequel story is cause for some serious worrying. When i hear 'academy years' i can't help but picture a bunch of third rate young wannabes in a 'high school drama' script. Shocked

What if they cast Hillary Duff?! I've boldly gone a lot of places (Bakula) but that's just a quadrant too far.
Why don't they make a voyager movie? I'd love to see thàt crew battling it out on the big screen. Smile

In my opinion, all star trek movies are junk, fake stupid and junk. Ive watched it plenty of times with my Dad and while hes jumping all over the room with his red shirt on saying i captain bewtrix. I am astounded how this TV show or movie can even last out. Star Wars is about 94% better and thats to the last decimal. No offence to Star Trek fans, but i speak the truth, penny for your thoughts Very Happy

Star Trek Vs Star Wars? They both have had their ups and downs. I really had enough Star Wars after Episode V. Star Trek is okay, but you have to realize it's TV on the big screen. They are ok for what they are, but I can't get excited about either one anymore.

As far as the new director goes, well, that kills it for me right there. I guess I am the only one here who thinks "Lost" is awful, but I just will not pay money to see anything by that guy until I hear some REAL good reports back from people I trust.

I really wish that they would have given up on stories set before the Original series after they cancelled Enterprise. I'm a huge fan of Star Trek and think that this prequil stuff is a terrible idea. I think that they should go forward. I mean, that's what Star Trek is supposed to be about. The human race learning, expanding, and moving forward. Oh well, hopefully I'm wrong and manage to make this a good film.

From what i've read on the empireonline site the story for star trek XI will not be a prequel. yay. There's a huge shout out from trek fans to bring Voyager to the big screen and i'm hoping Paramount will give the fans what they want.
I for one would love to see the infamous coffee addicted Janeway get mixed up in the temporal cold war and go GI-jane on some alien *** (like in this episode. Very Happy
