I want to change my forum from .frih.net to my domain .iscorpio.com

Should I do a new install.. Can I retain the old forum's contents..

How should I do it?

I'm not 100% sure but I think if you import the DB to your new site and then install it, phpBB may recognize it.

Attach your isscorpio.com domain first, then go to phpmyadmin, go to phpbb_config, there should be 2 values - server_name and something else, change the one that says scorpio.frih.net to isscorpio.com (DO NOT ADD THE HTTP). once you are done, just go to phpBB ACP, board config, change the c00kie value.

If i wanted to install a new phpbb board?

I have to replace all the links to the old forum in all my pages manually

Is there a shorter method of doing it?

Thank you
n0obie4life
scorpio, there's no need to reinstall it. It's just an SQL query change.

Code:
UPDATE `phpbb_config` SET `config_value` = 'iscorpio.com' WHERE `config_name`='server_name';

Run that SQL query in phpmyadmin.
Scorpio
My earlier links in my pages point to www.scorpio.frih.net/forums/phpbb2

Now if i change what you do, where will these links point to?
n0obie4life
Okay, do you want me to fix everything up for you?

If so, please give me your Directadmin username/password through PM. I'll deal with it once I'm back home after 2 hrs or so (I'm going out now, so I can't give you help).

If you run that SQL query, all your phpBB related pages will run to www.iscorpio.com/forums/phpbb2

if your using any decent editor you will hae a search and replace function (usually Ctrl+F). Simply open all page switht hat link and just find and replace all Wink

phpBB isn't hardcoded. And I'm sure you can't do that in PHP files Rolling Eyes

It's mine, sorry. I meant, there isn't such a thing for you to find and replace in phpBB's files. Everything is stored in mySQL Wink

Yes, but he is talking about hardcoded links in non-forum pages.

n0obie, mathiaus meant that Scorpio could use find-and-replace to change his website:

I can open around 20 pages individually and do it as you said

IN the future when i have lots of pages with the same links, it would not be viable to change the location of the link

Is there a way to shorten this process .
n0obie4life
Well, instead of using

Code:
<a href="scorpio.frih.net/blah">text</a>

you should use

Code:
<a href="/blah">text</a>

that makes it "relative" to the domain name Wink
