Web e-mail !

Hi,

I'm about to creat a web e-mail (a web site like hotmail) but for personnal usage and friends and maybe, if it works good, make it public for all...
But first, I need to find a good php script (free if possible) to make it..

Is anyone know one that I can use ?

The script to send emails is not hard to make. To manage and view them is much harder. However, there are three email-programs in cpanel you can use. My university is using one of them for their own webmail, thus it can't be that bad. Wink

A good one that I have used in the past is B1gMail.

The site's in German, but you should be able to find your way around.

It works by using a catch-all email address and then sorting the contents of it to a MySQL database. Thankfully, frihost can provide all of this for you.

You can use Horde IMP a lot of ISP use it

It's good for text mails but not very good for HTML mails.

To get an email script like Hotmails', you need to use CGI instead of PHP. I can search up some CGI scripts for you, but if your hosted here there should be a Scripts Library where you can just click and install the CGI script. If not I can find it for you and tell you how to install it.

I've found many webmail programs that are coded onto one page only, a real space-saver if you are looking for a tiny webmail program without features like addressbooks.

I recommend this one, for example :

I had more than that, but I sorta lost them in my huge list of bookmarks. Razz

thank you for that last page mate. That was real interesting information. It looks kind of simple to do. But im sure its not as simple as it looks and i will hit something thats gonner be a pain in the ass.
