http://www.joynic.com/ has a bunch of different kinds of free domains. all you have to to is register!

More of a short subdomain rather then an actual domain.
There is also www.smartdots.com, you get domains which end with .tc. They have better features than joynic. Smartdots best feature is password protect pages. You can choose to have ads on your site or you can delete them. Smartdots is much better!!
