What do you think of Fedora Core 5?? I like it so far.
Fedora is a more bloated and slow than many other distros I've tried, even the dated Debian.
It's pretty good. I've been running only XP for the past year or so and was pleasantly surprised when I installed FC5 on my new box. Overall it felt much snappier and well put together compared to the varoius distros I had used in the past..
I installed the x64 version though and am having a couple of problems with the fonts in X after installing the Nvidia drivers through Livna... Not too much of a problem.. but kinda annoying coz I gotta run X in vesa mode Fonts are good then..
hmm the last fedora i tried was ver 2. after that it just became too bloated for my requirements, so switched over to ubuntu
but so far ive been seeing good reviews for ver 5. still dont need all that amount of stuff it has, but i will give it a shot this week.
I use it in some of my PC's for my Internet Cafe and I find it as a good substitute for Windows XP, since I had to cut down on cost. Windows XP here costs quite a lot and not everyone could afford it.
Yet to try it out. I'm still on FC4 . I have lready downloaded FC5 and hopeto try it soon.
FC5 is well worth the download and the time to install...Its a lil tricky to get it all working the way you want it to, but after its all set up it is an excellent OS alt to Winblows!
Bloated? Not for me.
Maybe you guys are just installing too many things during the setup.
Only thing I install are msngr, dev packages, and base items.
I have it dual-booted w/ Windows and I have to say, I absolutely love FC5.
Now if only companies would jump on the bus and start building apps for *nix instead of Windows.
Boo to strangleholds.
FC5 pretty much detected everything I had right "outta the box."
Even SuSe didn't do that, nor Ubuntu.
I have to say I've found the distro for me.
