Read the article, what I find most amazing about it is that they are parading around with it in a bucket. What the hell.

It's probably better off that it died though, can you imagine living looking like that.
megamass
Pretty scare :/ I think it much better that he died, because he wouldn't had normal life in our society...
ocalhoun
That is so very fake. They might have convinced me if they hadn't also changed it's eyes and ears.
Tabloid headline: My baby's an alien!
mtoni
whoooosss .... did the parents live near an atomic research building or something ??
Something went terribly wrong with the genetic codex of that 'baby'
dz9c
I am quite skeptic of that...The eyes are way to fake man. Some people just have no life. And even if it wasnt real, your right it was better of dead because it wouldnt of fit into society.
Panthrowzay
I pray thats fake! it looks like a toad
coolclay
I think it is either a fake or, it could possibly be the result of missing or to many chromosomes. The no neck part reminds me of down syndrome and down syndrome results from an extra chromosome, in the DNA.
Subsonic Sound
Mutations can throw up some odd things from time to time. It could also be fake - but to tell the truth I don't really care whether or not someone cooked it up or it's a natural mutation. It's dead. It's not going to do anything important.

The bird-table outside our house is at present being frequented by a mutated blue-tit. Most mutations either have no effect at all (A hair cell which would produce some strange chemical instead of Rhodopsin - but never does, as it's a hair cell) or they result in the death of the creature quite rapidly (malformed heart, cancer, etc) but this blue-tit has a long thing, curved beak. Like larger wading birds. It looks really bizarre, as birds that small don't usually have beaks like that. We put extra breadcrumbs out for it, as it can eat them. If it puts its head on its side.
dandan
Oh gosh. But I don't think that's a fake because seeing some of the babies born to mothers who lived in Chernobyl at the time of the nuclear disaster, they look extremely alike except for the fact that these Chernobyl second generation children actually lived for a number of years.

what Are u guys talking about??????????????

Interesting how none of the news sources listed with google news ran with the story... hmm what does this tell us...

I don't fit into society...
Would I be better off dead?

That they didn't run the story.
Bazza_Ballistic
If not one of the 4,500 news sources listed with google run with a story it probably means that the story is a hoax. I doubt that there isn't one sensationalist tabloid in there who would love a freak story to sell a couple more papers. Therefore, they have probably seen the story but didn't run with it because they knew it was rubbish (although it was funny Smile )

Here's a great example of a hoax site catching someone out

I am quite certain it's real. I've read articles that scientists have been expecting some gross mutation in chromosome 23 for a few years now. I'm not gullible, but it seems more than possible if you think about it. One single disfiguration on any of the thousands of genes in chromosome 23 could easily produce drastic mutation.

This is true with any gene in any chromosome, but geneticists have noticed peculiar traits within the genes of chromosome 23, ones that aren't particularly fragile, but could spontaneously mutate with no indications of environmental trauma, as would be expected with most mutations. The chances of such a spontaneous mutation occuring EVER are about 1 in 500,000,000,000,000.

The odds are against the idea of such a creature being spawned, but it's quite possible. Could you imagine carrying something that huge for nine months?! I shudder at the thought of trying to give birth to something that grossly misshapen Shocked...

But I'd shudder at the thought of giving birth to anything.

It looks like a fake, but after learning about genes and mutations, it could be real....
The Conspirator
That is clearly fake.
Tumbleweed
It could be real ( anencephaly ), but I cant see why the child would be paraded through the streets (As it seems in the picture) maybe its a cultural thing but that seems very odd to me and leads me to believe something is fake or not quite what it seems
superbonfire
im not saying its real or its fake
but look at this http://www-medlib.med.utah.edu/WebPath/PEDHTML/PED031.html
similar defects

That sucks. Such big eyes. Oh, and it's like the Lion King or something, they were parading around with the baby in a bucket. *Awkward*

Edit: 1000th Post

The limits of fatherly love..... holding your dead baby - in a bucket - has clearly passed that limit.
UHF123
I laughed at first, then looked again uneasy, then looked at the bottom picture and laughed again. It looks cute from a reasonable distance parading in it's bowl. I wouldn't have thought they would give you it as a 'souvenir'. It'll probably end up hosting a kids Saturday morning show.

I agree. It looks like a grotesque Jim Henson puppet. Seems way too alert to have been just born. My first reaction though was "Did she have sex with a FROG?"
Josso
Pretty sick if that's real, looks like messed up DNA by radiation maybe.
UHF123
Yeah, cosmic rays or Radon or Fluoride in the water.
haak_heu
MAy be true or may be not , but can happen , a abnormal child but it is looking fake
crimson_aria
Can be fake or can be not. If it's true, shocks.. that's scary and sad for the parents.
picsite
I think its fake....like seriously..
linexpert
I hope this was fake because if it was real i couldn't image what the parent would have to go through if they found their baby looking like that.
TSpiralP
wow dude that is so photohop
ankur.vatsa
There was a news in India that a couple had a normal child and after that all those who were born had a snake-like skin. No explanations given but the parents were interviewed on the television and they acknowledged it. The state of the children is not known to me, for I didn't watch the programme for long but going by such incidents, I believe its possible for such a child to be born.
Meggsy
One word - photoshop...
sarapicoazul
I saw a similar case in my country, a baby fruit of incest (brother plus sister) !!!
LeviticusMky
Okay, I've seen this picture elsewhere, that child is 100% real. I can say this with certainty because many other sites have hosted this story, and all have had discussions regarding the validity of this baby.

The baby is very real, it died shortly after birth, and was paraded around the streets.

True, something like this would be easy to fake, but what would be the point? Genetically mutated infants such as this are seen all over the world, just usually not in the streets where the public can take snapshots of them.

Snopes lists this as undetermined. Anencephaly is definitely a possibility, especially when you look at the photos from Utah.
hsandhu21
Well i Don't know if you look in terms of size it looks a little big and mis-shapen to be birthed in any fashion i mean even for a c-section that thing must have been almost impossible, i'm calling fake because of size the eyes and the fact that it just doesn't look close enough to a human being to be real, but anyways if it is the earlier post was true it's better he is deceased because in our society these days and ESPECIALLY in india he would have been seen as a "freak" and his mother and father would have put up with a lot of gried from people.
circuits
I have seen everything, I may die a peaceful and complete man.
chastise
I personally believe this is real. After checking out some of the post by others. And finding out about the child defect "anencephaly", I think is this indeed very possibly.
FunDa
The baby must be real. It is anencephaly, and the baby does not survive long.

Very similar pictures can be found in medical embryology textbooks and websites, and in museums of pathology.
ninjakannon
It's definitely a fake. Think carefully, it's white and no one else there is white, shouldn't it have a skin colour closer to everyone else in the region? Furthermore, you would expect that man holding it up to be its father; however he is not in any distress or discomfort at all, merely showing off his abnormal son which he should care for. Plus its skin colour is not like his, and he's the most likely father.

This kind of thing isn't impossible, but that is almost certainly fake.

If you can stomach it, take a look at this video on YouTube. It's a baby which was born with birth defects, it's pretty horrible - you have been warned.
alissavb
That is really bizarre, and doesn't even look real...it looks way too big to have been only 4 pounds heavy, and the fact that the father wasn't even upset about its death is kind of... off... plus, they were parading around with it in a bucket?! Who does that?! That's messed up. :\

That's got to be a hoax.
tbsmicro
I'm afraid I don't believe this at all. It appears to be so obviously fake.
Handermier
When I first looked at this it screamed fake to me. Then reading the posts I only agree more. The size of the 'child' is a little much for any woman to pass and not be injured. The article said the woman was fine and had a normal child birth. The arms are a tad bit too long. The eyes are off. It looks like a doctored photo.

And then the whole color thing that was brought up. The father seems so proud of his 'alien' baby. Personally, I would be horified and hide him from the puplic who would probably try to kill it because it looks different.

So I have to say a big fat phoney here.

This may be real!
Here is the snopes page on it.
http://www.snopes.com/photos/medical/nepalbaby.asp
Unfortunately, it's listed as "undetermined", because hey do not have documentation of it, so we don't know for sure if it's real or not.
They did note that the conditions are like those of anencephaly.
Definately possibly real.

Definately possibly real.

However, the story doesn't make sense.

It is claimed that the baby died half an hour after death. These pictures are obviously taken, therefore, less than half an hour after birth; would any baby - especially this baby - be let out of the hospital so soon? The doctors / nurses must have realised that it was about to die and shouldn't have let it out. I doubt whether they would have - yet I do not know how things work in Nepal, which still leaves a small opening for the story to be true.

But seriously, does it look like anything you've ever seen? The website you linked to, rouge568, gives the possible explanation of anencephaly but to be honest I don't think it's that - it's not close enough to the baby's symptoms; take a look at the ears for example, it just doesn't look right.
yy1124
fake or not , these things do happens...

if this was real...i am curious why his parent allows them to parade him on the street....as they will normally try to hide this kind of news
darknight985
they said on http://www.snopes.com/photos/medical/nepalbaby.asp that they think the parading of the "baby" in question, was some sort of funural thingy.

But I thought that the Baby looked alive in those pictures, it's sitting up (which babies find hard anyway - another pointer that this is fake?) which suggests that it is using its legs to support itself. Plus, its eyes are open in such a way that it looks alive; although, the eyes don't look very alive.
llobo1
I agree 100% with ninjakannon. There is absolutely no way that this is not a fake:
Would any parent "parade" their child that soon after they were born?
Why does the child have absolutly white skin?
Why was it released from hospital?
Why do the pictures positively reek of editing?
etc.

There are many reasons why this cannot be a real case - although I accept that it would be possible for this sort of thing to happen.

Another idea - maybe this did happen but no one took any pictures so a little bit of photoshop and voila.
CCFCExile
I don't think it's a fake, just watch channel 4 or 5 and their is always a documentary on abnormal growths, babies, people, tribes from Asiatic, indian and Eastern European countries!!!

Poor thing, glad it died but give it some dignity and get it out of the pan and into a grave.
