Knoppix 5

RiCtee
Does anyone know where I can download Knoppix 5?? All I can find is the 4.02 version. It says in the website - http://www.knopper.net/cebit/index-en.html that it will be available in 2 weeks after CeBIT, and that's in March.

Another thing, what is the difference between the DVD and the CD version??

One more question. Is Gentoo a liveCD?? Do you need to install it on your hard drive or not? I'm want to try Linux but don't want to install it first, so I'm searching for these LiveCDs. Does anyone know other ones that they would recommend?

It seems that the DVD iso have not yet been made available to the mirrors.

I have found a link for a torrent download, you might want to give it a try;

http://linuxtracker.org/download.php?id=1645&name=KNOPPIX_V5.0DVD-2006-02-25-EN.iso.torrent

Tha main difference between the DVD and the CD version is the amount of software they could package into the live system.
Like for example, the GCompris edutainment suite for kids between ages 3-10 is not available in knoppix 3.9 while it is available in the 4.0 release

I know it may sound that i should not compare the 3.9 version with the 4.0 version, but they were released at almost the same time. (if memory servers, just a few days apart)

As i recall, Knoppix 3.9 will be the last CD version of Knoppix, from version 4.0 onwards all knoppix release will be DVDs.

Hope this helps

i believe they still offer a CD version of 4.0 and up, however. I have a 4.0 CD... the DVD is a lot better, however.

There seem to be no official downloads available. There are some torrents for DVDs. Google it.

Not too likely since you can't effectivly regulate to death the usage a live CD.

Thanks everyone. I didn't download Knoppix but instead I'm trying out Slax. I think Slax's very minimalistic, limited (too little package) and I can't connect to the Internet. So now, I'm waiting for the ShipIt Ubuntu CD to arrive, and it's not even the newest build. I hope that's the last distro I'm going to try. Somehow, I think that I'm better off with Windows. Confused

Can I ask one more question?? Is there any live distros that has support for NTFS? I mean you can read and write to it.
