Are you running out of free hard drive space by any chance?
SoftStag
It could be you are running out of hard disk space, as Bones says, however you often get other warnings about this also. It could be that your virtual memory settings are wrong, if you are using XP, try this:
Arrow Open System Properties (Right click My Computer and select Properties)
Arrow Click on the Advanced Tab at the top
Arrow Click on the Settings button in the Performance section
Arrow Click on the Advanced Tab at the top
Arrow Click the Change button in the Virtual Memory section
Arrow Put a dot in System Managed Size and click on Set
Arrow Click OK, you may be prompted that you need to restart the computer for the effects to take place, click OK
Arrow Close all windows and reboot.

Hope this helps.

try disable unnesesary windows services ( http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/windows_xp_services.php),
the easyiest way to improve performance is buy additional RAM Smile.

try increasing the amount of virtual memory u have - a good amount is calculated by 1.5 X the amount of ram u have

if that duznt work, u mite need to consider adding more ram into ur pc
thses r gud amounts of fram for decent performance (not minimum)
win98- 256mb
win me- 256mb
win2000 - 384mb
winxp - 512
