A lot of peope in Asia do get offended or embarrassed if shown any nudity, whether it is by art, by cartoon, or any media. Art is a kind of media to convey messages. The TV is a kind of media to convey messages. The magazines, the internet, billboards, etc. It does not matter.

Pornography is about having sexual intercourse, and often it is extreme. In pornography there may be violence involved. Pornography is explicit.

Nude art is an art I think. The artists try to show the beautiness of a human body. It has nothing to do with sex. Nude arts isn't about showing genital organs too.

Nudity can indeed be an art form as has been proven throughout history by the great masters. In the hands of a real artist the human form can be a thing of exceptional beauty, on the other hand, in the hands of a pornographer it can be peverted in any number of ways. Art is just that...Art. I don't think it [Art] should be censored if it is not there to act as a stimulant in any way (unlike pornography), and it is not used as a selling medium for products, movies, books, etc.

Some of the greatest artworks of all time have been nudes or semi-nudes and for the most part, no one sees anything wrong with them. Of course, one persons view of what is actually art will differ from anothers depending on any number of factors. I guess it boils down to Beauty, or in this case art, is in the eye of the beholder.

There's no art in pornography, on that point I agree with you. But the art in nudity? As I said before:

Aren't you sometimes stunned by the complexity of our bodies, and how beautiful the working of your body is? (a little exagerated, but it makes my point clear.) A human body can be very beautiful I think, and it certainly can be art.

A painting and a statue of Michelangelo. Both containing full nudity. Art or not?

Certainly there's art in nudity. Pornography is functional - it's made for one specific purpose. Nudity in art, however, doesn't posess this functional purpose in and of itself. I can think of plenty of works of art depicting nudity in some form, which don't really turn me on, no matter their beauty (the ones Gieter supplied are examples, but the lack of sexual excitement isn't just because they're both of males Smile) Even the more directly erotic imagery is different in terms of celebrating love and intimacy, rather than being a commercially minded display of an impersonal physical act.

Yes, the human body can be beautiful, and in that way it's no different from (other parts of) nature or culture, which are depicted by artists. I can look at my girlfriend naked and be in awe of the beauty of her body, a feeling that is - just as often as not - separated from any sexual desire.

In my opinion, outlawing nude art altogether is just a matter of adding another layer of alienation from other people - and yourself. There's plenty of fear of physicality in modern society without such taboos.

I have no problem with nude art. The human body is wonderful and beautiful. This is why I have no problems (generally) with being naked in front of guys (or girls). People would say, "Oh! You're gay!" but no, I am just fascinated with the human body. It's an AWESOME machine.
