An American man described as being devoted to his meticulously kept lawn has been charged with murder over the shooting of a 15-year-old boy who apparently walked across his garden.
Police said Charles Martin shot next-door neighbour Larry Mugrage in the chest on Sunday afternoon in Union Township, near Batavia in Ohio. The teenager was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Martin is alleged to have called emergency services and calmly told them: “I just killed a kid.”
Local police said the 66-year-old had told them he had had problems with neighbours walking on his lawn several times.
They added that in the 911 call, Martin also said: “I’ve been harassed by him and his parents for five years. Today just blew it up.” |

Alternate M.E.N Link He was wrong for shooting the kid. I think if he was having problems with the family then he should have called the cops about it. Not shot a man. Now he gets to spend the rest of his life in jail. Fun retirement party. Plus no more lawn to take care of. Sounds kinda like my neighbor. We walked on his lawn and he started yelling at us. Then he had the nerve to set off "real" fireworks. Like the ones you see on the forth of July.

My dad is that way. But that gives know excues for him to shoot a man. If he was having problems then just call the cops. He knew the kid since it was his neighbor. Just say that he was walking on privite property.So someone looses their life because he's anal about his lawn? Put up a fence if you don't want people walking on it. Contact authorities for him trespassing. Talk to his parents. There's no need to kill him.

Thats a very messed up old man, who cares if someone is going to walk on your lawn, it wont kill it!

Students in US shooting fellow students every 2 days in some school in the country. It is very annoying to note that teenagers are getting so stressed and resort to such foolishness
I saw this on the news and heard the recording of the 911 call, and that guy was way to calm on the phone. It was actually a bit unnerving to listen to him. He shot that kid twice with a 410 shotgun for cutting across his yard. legal anylists are saying that he was "anal retentive" about his lawn and he just "snapped". Anal retentive? He sounds pure crazy if you ask me, not crazy as insane crazy, but crazy in the sense of "I'm going kill this kid and get away with it because everyone will think I'm insane" kinda crazy.
Don't put this shmuck in the hospital with real sick people who need help, put him a real prison with people who will make him a bit more un-anal retentive.

lol. Apparently you should consider yourself lucky that he didn't set off a "real" gun instead.The NRA must be really proud of this man.
After all that's what they always said guns are for - for protecting yourself and your property !
Isn't it funny how next to Iraq (the disposable raghead trash who deserve to die anyway), American guns mostly kill their own kids.
I think this should lead to the discussion "Why does somebody needs to have a gun in the house?". I can´t understand it. Why is it good to be armed? Does it prevent you from being stolen? Or is it even worse to be armed. Think about the following situation: "an armed drug user is entering your house. he wants to steal something. As you notice a strange sound you walk down a) with a gun, b) without a gun." Which case is more threatening? I think the case WITH the gun, because the burglar is in thread...
Or am I wrong?
Okay, It looks like someone has problems. Unless the kid was after to kill you, He should have just called the police. But I do understand the guy. Kids arent what you think they are, They arent all innocent as they seem. I don't think what he did was acceptable, But look at the other options, If he just scared the kid away, He would have just probably swore at him and ransacked his lawn before running away.
In this excerpt it says:

which means if he went to the kids parents, He wont expect any friendliness.
If he called the police on the bases of trespassing, They probably pick him up. The kid wouldnt know what was happening and would start crying and begging for mercy. When his parents pick him up, The guy who called the police can expect to have no lawn at all when it gets all ruined by an act of revenge.
This guy had no other options. He was stuck in a lose-lose situation. He could have moved, But if he stayed for 5 years, I think it says alot.
