| An shot intro from the book, A To Z Of Thrash Metal, by Garry Sharpe-Young.
Thrash Metal. At first mocked by the Rock traditionalists Thrash would swamp the hard n’ heavy world propelling one of it’s own- Metallica, to the very pinnacle of Rock’s elite. In the early 80s Thrash breathed new life into the Rock scene providing older acts with a much needed kick. This new force opened the floodgates to armies of teens armed with flying Vs, bullet belts and a sense of purpose that would fuel genres such as Thrashcore, Crossover and technical Speed Metal. Without Thrash there would be no Death Metal, no Black Metal. That explosion of aggression has seen subsequent afterblasts, most recently Europe and South America has seen a genuine renaissance of Thrash Metal. Without doubt Thrash Metal continues to make its mark in the biggest possible way. The ‘big four’- Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer are all documented here in the greatest possible detail with full, up to the minute histories, exclusive photographs and global discographies. No stone is left unturned in pursuit of knowledge of ex members, rare recordings and career milestones. The author has interviewed all these major acts. Indeed, he was the last journalist to interview Metallica’s late Cliff Burton. The early days of Megadeth are straight from the mouth of Dave Mustaine. Also covered are the legion of groundbreaking Bay Area acts such as Metal Church, Testament, Exodus, Death Angel and Hirax. The European Thrash explosion of Kreator, Rage, Destruction, Sodom, Grave Digger and Helloween is also covered in frightening detail. The Pagan Thrash of Sabbat, the avant garde eccentricity of Celtic Frost and the Funk Thrash of Morded- it’s all here. The second wave of Thrash with major artists such as Sepultura, Pantera and Machine Head takes the genre right up to the new breed of Thrashers, now a truly world-wide phenomomen. All examined in depth. Thrash Metal is not only alive, it is thriving. |

Not yet, but I would check them out of cause. Btw. do you know Holy Moses? I can't exact classify them, but their music is some kind of Thrash spiced with Grind, Death and Black. And at last you would never think about that they have a babe female vocalist. Check them out..
Cheers!

It seems like that the legendary Onslaught has been raised from hell, following news spot has been found at Roadrunner Records homesite:
| Quote: |
| Reformed classic British thrash outfit ONSLAUGHT will enter the studio the first week of July to begin recording their new album, "Killing Peace", tentatively due in September via an as-yet-undetermined label. The band's current lineup includes Sy Keeler (vocals), Nige Rockett (guitars), Steve Grice (drums), James Hinder (bass) and the group's latest addition, guitarist Alan Jordan (ex-MIRROR MIRROR, FRANKENSTEIN).
ONSLAUGHT recorded three albums in the late 1980s — including the underrated "In Search of Sanity" (1989, Polydor), featuring ex-GRIM REAPER frontman Steve Grimmett — before calling it a day. As previously reported, ONSLAUGHT have been confirmed for the Brutal Assault festival, set to take place August 1012 at Svojsice U Prelouce (100 km east of Prague) in the Czech Republic. Also scheduled to appear are AMORPHIS, CEPHALIC CARNAGE, DIMMU BORGIR, GOREFEST, MAYHEM and SICK OF IT ALL, among others. |

Gotta Be Metallica. Classics.
Anyone see the big metal show coming through the US and canada? "Unholy Alliance tour"? Its going to be freaking bad ass. We have Slayer leading with Lamb of God, Mastodon, Children of Bodom, and I think there is one more band I dont know about. Anyway, it will be seriously great. Anyone going?

Testament is the only band from the list above I listen to nowadays.
What a great vocalist!

Metallica, good band... but old........
Kill'em all their best album
Artillery
Aura Noir
Exhorder
Exumer
Heathen
Exodus
Holy Terror
Kreator
Sodom
Torture Squad
And of course... Overkill, and DRI.
Stuff like Metallica's thrash days were awesome. And Justice for All is still one of my favorite albums of all time, even though I don't listen to much Metallica these days.
Love Megadeth. So many countless great albums even into the late 90's. Cryptic Writings, Youthanasia, and Countdown are just examples of how the 90's didn't kill their style.
Not so much of a fan of Slayer, and I haven't given their new album listen yet. I've had it for months, but from what I've heard from Slayer in the past few years (God Hates Us All, blech), I don't expect much of it.
And Anthrax... Have never heard a single song from them, so I can't really judge them.
Well, that's my take on the big 4.

Never too old or young to listen to metallica. I still see their albums being sold. Some of the johnny come lately bands don't move ads many as they do. Not to mention the fact that the metallica albums still keep their price and rarely hit the sale bins.
"Justice for all" is the best Metallica album.
I don't really know which of them is my favorite thrash metal band, since i like most of them.
I voted kreator because i listen a lot to it at the moment. An their sound is very agressive compared to some of the other bands.

Hi there,
I really like this answer!
I agree with you about the most of you above mentioned bands, the rest might has been pass me by, like Aura Noir, Exhorder, Holy Terror and Torture Squad, but it seems like to have a reason to check them out.

Hi there,
After a longer times break, both cause of Computer problems and then that I've been working hard to redesign my girlfriend, Rosanova, 's homepage, do I hereby claim that I've been awaked from the death..
There has been too many new topics that had discussed the same topic, with quality that has been wasted on spreading over too many forums, so I hope that there would be more who would like to spice this topic up..
I did went into Testatemt's home site, and did found out that they had signed up with Nuclear Blast Records, and then more important that they are working on their long time awaiting next studio album "writing rehearsals".
I hope that there would be others who could add surch of exciting news here.
Cheers!

Hi there,
I would say a kind of..... Or more like Melodic Power Metal, what actually is a sub under Thrash like Hammerfall, Morgana Lefay, Tad Morose etc.
Cheers!
Hi there,
I don't know if there is any who has noticed that Megadeth is back, and I really do mean BACK!
Good old Dave is back with that he's best with, doing brilliant good old school Thrash Metal, like what he did at the old days with Peace sells.... and So far so good....
Who actually cares about Metallica's vimp sh*t, they are actually there where Iron Maiden where when Metallica took the record... But Dave stayed at the underground possision, and don't forget what that was the reason too why he did left Capitol Records.
I've only one thing to say about that.... Go buy "United Abominations", you wouldn't regret that.
Cheers!

Hi there,
In Flames is together with bands like Dark Tranquillity and At The Gates, pioneers of the melodic death metal genre.
So if above is meant as a question, would the answer be yes! In Flames is Melodic Death Metal. But still not forgetting that even Death Metal was originally a sub-genre to the Thrash Metal genre, long time before it got it's own genre.
But anyway is In Flames not included my collection, and I'm very sure that they ever will.
Cheers!
Hi there,
First of all, thanks to mOrpheuS for helping quoting text as I had then trouble to find out how to do, but now I know.
An forgotten thrash metal band is Annihilator, OK! I agree that it's long time since that they made an thrash album, but Alice in Hell is still one of my favorites.
Today is Annihilator what I would call for one-o-one classic heavy metal band like Metallica is today. Sad but true, my oppinion is still murder at once allways a murder. You can't run from your roots, and it's what bands like Slayer has realized.
Have a nice f**king christmas and a hell great new year.
Cheers!

Well, there's honestly a tie between Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth. Those four pioneered thrash metal, so none of them is above the other...and nobody besides those four can even be considered for the title of best thrash metal band. Metallica kinda dropped off a bit, but they still put out good music (Mustane was a huge part of Metallica...wonder if they're sorry they kicked him out). Slayer has been playing for 30 years and never ceases to fill up an entire stadium..still kickin hard and, at the moment, they are the kings of thrash metal. Anthrax and Megadeth are both amazing, although they don't appeal to me as much.
metallica man,
common lets keep it real here

I'm afraid I can't pick from your list as it is to difficult to choose a favorite. But as I read this topic I am quite surprised my brother Helios hasn't thumped it in some fashion (your slipping bro), there seems to be only one poster here....and I applaud your effort...you know who you are.
You'll burn for that comment.
Yes there are some dedicated metalheads here....Helios most of all.

LONG LIVE THE GODS OF THUNDER!!!!!!!!! |
I'm not a big thrash fan, Max

Hi there,
Never forget that Metallica was one out a couple bands in the 80:s that raised the tower of thrash metal, but they became confused in their music with their Black Album and the albums after that.
I'm sorry to hurt feelings on those who still belive in Metallica, sad but true, but I'm sure that they would came back to show what they are made of. And last conclusion would be that I'm not as sure that Denmark would have the same Metal Scene as we have today without Lars...
Cheers!
The greatest thing about Metallica is just that, that they make alot of different music. When Im in the mood for thrash, I listen to the first three albums (especially 'Ride the Lightning'), when Im in a mood for something else... well, it depends, but I equally like all the other albums except 'St. Anger', and maybe both 'Load' and 'Reload' are lower on my list (although I love some tracks like 'Low Mans Lyrics', 'Until it Sleeps' or 'The Unforgiven II').
Thats the reason why I cant stomache stuff like Iron Maiden.. so many years, and its basicly the same stuff over and over again, but lets say thats just me.

Hi there,
I've heard the demo of the new Metallica, and I really understand their fight against Napster, cause they are only getting downwards, and I'm 100% sure that you would regret if you're spending money on them. I've only one advice for Metallica, split-up and get some new jobs.
Cheers!

Hi there,
Overkill aren't forgotten!!! And... not either Nuclear Assault. Both does also belongs to the pioneer at the Thrash Metal area.
But it seems like that many has forgotten Metal Church, whom like Overkill actually are older than Metallica, who of some kind of reason has been awarded as the founder of Thrash Metal. Strange, but they did made the Thrash Metal commercial, and I don't know it that is something to be proud of..
Metal Up!!!
Cheers!

Nobody claims Metallica "founded" thrash metal. They merely pushed it forward with the help of others. And those bands are: Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth. They are the declared the "big four" of the thrash metal genre and they pushed it forward onto a much larger pedestal in the metal community. Whether you like Metallica or not is irrelevant; they are and will continue to be deemed innovators of metal and a band that pushed forward thrash metal.
Gotta love Anthrax, they'd be my fav thrash band
I would say definitely Metallica, but I am also partial to Anthrax.
Hi there,
I wouldn't get me into an discussion about opinions regarding Metallica in this forum topic, as I would think that it's belongs to a topic regarding Metallica, and then keeps this topic clear for that.
I have an great Thrash Metal Collection, where also a part of Metallica belongs into, and the brilliant with Thrash Metal is that it's hard to place who is best or not, but it's true that it's the old school who has made the sound, and here would I like to say no one mentioned, no one forgotten...
But let us hail that Thrash Metal is back, and just enjoy all that fine music at high volume when pollution of Techno etc. is on the air...
Metal Up!
Cheers!

Cheers to those fella's. Great job on this one
Though I'd like it to be more 'raw', but it's still good music.

Hi there,
More great news from the Thrash Metal front.....
Artillery a Danish Thrash Metal band formed in 1982 and had their 25 years anniversary last year, is now active on the road again. And for tour dates check their site on;
http://www.stutzer-music.com
Here can you also find details on their upcoming live DVD recorded at MetalMania Festival in Katowice in Poland.
Rumours also says that they also planning to do a studio album in the near future.
...And for them who never had heard about Artillery, can you also download samples and ever two full length demos from their site too.
By the way go see them live too, it's really worth. I was there in the 80' in a double concert together with Destruction.
Cheers!

Metallica was the only band on that list that i even listen to
I voted on Slayer, but Sepultura (Max good ol' times) is a better reference for me.
