Hostel/ Quentin Tarantino

canadol
I just watched this new film.

If you like horror movies and are not squirmish ( I am not but still got to me a bit) this movie you might enjoy.

I thought the movie was way over the top and disturbing. I don't know how someone comes up with these ideas. I love a good horror movie but recently we have been exposed to some real over the top gore and viloence.

All this also seems to have the name Quentin Tarantino on it. I also don't understand how is getting credits to these movies when he hasn't written, directed or produced. He was "special guest director" on sin city, I have never heard of that. I guess they are just using his name to promote the movie. I was and still kinda am a fan of Tarantino because of his originallity and script writing as well as his use of music in his films but he has really gotten violent/gruesome lately and I am starting to not like his newer films as a result. I love the ideas but I beleive they could be done in a much less violent way and still be great or better films.

What does you think about the new violence or Quentin's new work?

Tarantino's guest director spot on Sin City was because Rodriguez the Sin City director created the score for Kill Bill vol.2 for $1. Tarantino said he would repay the favour and so directed a scene out of Sin City for $1. You don't see it happen in other films because the Director's Guild of America has rules that state that only one Director can be credited for a movie. However Sin City had already broken this rule because Frank Miller was also brought on as the director.

While Tarantino has a history of promoting films that he wasn't involved with but is a fan of, Hostel isn't one of these. Tarantino had a fairly key role and even developed the idea with Eli Roth based on a Thai website they saw.

As for the film, I've heard mixed reviews, but if its as twisted as they say it is then i'm almost certain to go and see it.

I bought the movie on DVD and saw it a week ago and man.. i wasted my money. Lemme tell you, the first hour of the movie is just plain porn.. u know.. girls and bars and discos and all that.. and finally well after 1 hour the story begins and we get to see the so called "hostel". The violence was so extreme i almost puked, seriously, its only for those who like extreme gore like arms being cut off, eyes being popped out. I cant get those images out of my mind.. Crying or Very sad

I thought it was crap for a Tarantino film, seriously not the best of his works. It seemed to me like he didnt do it up very well this time. But hes not done making movies yet, oh no, theres going to me more and more just you wait. Something as compareable as pulp fiction will pour out of Quentin before he retires from the industry. Idea

I did'nt really think much of Hostel, as the main storyline was'nt really all that good from an average horror type movie. some parts was good though but in all i thought it was abit boring, it was alot same with '' The Hills Have Eyes [Remake] '' to. Both overhyped movies that was a let down.

Tarantin didn't direct this film at all. He only helped promote it as he's a big fan of Eli Roth the guy who DIRECTED and wrote this film.

This was a pretty horrible film, but as far as horror flicks go it was captivating in a cookie-cutter manner. The basic plot wasn't that bad, but the execution turned the movie into something trivial and formulaic.

I was dissapointed after watching "Hostel". This film is full of unjustified an silly violence. Of course, "Hostel" can not be considered as a good work. A real masterpiece by Tarantino is "Pulp Fiction". I wish Tarantino would create something really interesting in the nearest future.

i didn't like Hostel either, The story took a while to take off and there was too much jumping from one character to another. Razz
I read somewhere that this movie was only presented by Tarantino, what exactly does it mean when on "presents" a movie?

While he was only the producer he did have a bigger role than just promotion. He was with Roth when he came up with the concept, and helped to develop the concept the film would take so had an important role in the Genesis of the film. But yes, you can't judge the film as a tarantino film because it wasn't. He did have a comparitavely small role in the making of the film.

Personally I just hope tarantino will hurry up and release the special edition, all encompassin single cut of Kill Bill. Damn I've been waiting ages for that.

I think it is pretty whack that Tarentino just attatches his name to things and people will automatically go see it.

This movie is 45 minutes of softcore porn followed by 45 minutes of hardcore gore. It wasn't good in the least, but it was entertaining.

When I saw it in the theatres and the guy was in the car and ran over the two skanks and the dude that set him up, somebody in the theatre screamed "Don't f*ck with the USA." I never laughed so hard in my entire life. That guys comment made the movie that much cooler to me.

A new version for sophisticated trash films.
(I bought the DVD, but just watched some disgusting scenes... HAHAHA)

Wasn't really all that good in all honesty--entertaining for sure during some points and will probably make even the most hardcore gore lovers squirm a bit in their seats. I agree with what the people above me said in relation to the story...it did take waaay too long to get the story moving. Nothing extremely special or out of the ordinary, though. Sad

I enjoyed it a lot. The only scene that was hardcore enough for me was the "bloody eye" one.

now, it wasn't well executed, but the plot was good overall. Bad direction, nice idea.

that s some disturbing movie.in one scene the guy cut others ankle and another burnt out ajapanes girls eye..that was not scary but disturbing..

Hostel sucked, but what can we expect from the director who gave us one of the worst movies of the last ten years "Cabin Fever". It is shocking though how terrible directors can land deals to make more terrible films (ugh umm Uwe Bol, Eli Roth?).

Anyway, Hostel was of course a piece of fodder with nothing really "terrifying" until the end and Quentin was the EP on Hostel and had a lot to do with it. Not like Hero where he just faciliated the films release here in the US.

So the next time you have questions about a film, look at the past works, I mean come on CABIN FEVER!! ARE YOU KIDDING!! Now he gets paid to make Hostel? Tragedy.

Hostel was pretty stupid but it had an important message. If you're ever overseas and two hot naked eastern european girls want to have sex with you, you should go for it but just be aware that somewhere along the line, you're gonna wake up in a dark cell tied up to a chair and someone will come in with a hacksaw and start cutting your achilles tendon. Also, the first half of this movie is soft-core porn. You can leave after the first half.
