voting script with a twist

I need a script for a word game, and I'm a little flummoxed as to how to proceed.
Basically, it's a simple voting and polling/score-keeping script, but with a twist.
People will "vote" for a variable number of entries. I need to keep track of who voted for what, who received votes, and how many votes each entry received.
I'll then need to attach scores to each user based on the votes they made and votes they received.
Not terribly complicated, but I'm not entirely sure what to do. Mostly, I'm stumped about how to set up my database.
Can anyone help me?

Yeah, it's a achallenge...
But can anyone offer some suggestions or direction?
I don't expect to have the whole answer, but some guidance or ideas would really help.
I'm kinda' new at this (as I'm sure you've noticed) and don't have the experience to know how to modify the scripts and db to accomodate all the variables.
I think my biggest concern is that I don't have a constant number of entries to vote for. ANy ideas on how to accomodate that?
