I'm currently using Fedora Core 4 as a server box. Heres my problem:
Whenever I open, edit and then save a php file with the default text editor (gedit) it creates a file in the same directory with a ~ at the end eg 'config.php~' The file can't be seen using file browser even with the 'Show hidden files' option enabled.
The problem with this is anyone is able to access the file with a browser since it isn't processed as a php file so they are able to access the config files which have the database username and passwords etc. I've tried to disable this by disabling the 'Save a copy' plugin but it still creates the file. Anyone have any ideas how I can stop it from doing this?
ls of the directory with an exampl file highlighted
Disabling the Save a copy plugin
