Why do you play computer games? Are you addicted?

jostor
I'm currently making a school project about gaming addiction, and the good and bad sides of it.

Feel free to answer these question, they will help me. If you don't feel like, you don't have to answer all questions.

1a. Do you play computer games? (If no, you can quit this after 1b)

1b. Why/why not?

2a. How long do you play on average each day?

2b. What is the longest you ever played without a decent pause?

3a. Would you consider yourself addicted to games?

3b. Why?/Why not?

4. If you would have to just without a reason give up gaming forever, could you do it?

5. Have you ever not gone to sleep, school/work or ignored other important things to play a game? Often or rarely?

6. Anything else you want to add abot why you play, gaming culture or just allaround?

If you just answer them all shortly you have helped a lot. Long answers are ok too... Your answers are very appriciated!

1a : Yep

1b : Well, to explain really briefly, it's a joy to play games, games were meant for leisure where the player has fun.

2a : On an Average, I play games for around 2 hrs

2b : longest I've played without a break is around 4 hrs (It was a weekend Razz )

3a : Nope

3b : I would consider myself to be a person who likes playing video games. I don't play video games daily and can live without playing them.

4 : If it's a matter of leaving gaming forever, then it is possible for me to do it (if there is an alternate way to have fun. Razz )

5 : I don't remember myself ignoring responsibilities, There are priorities given for everything and I keep gaming at the bottom of the list. (After all, there is a pause button and saving options. Cool )

6 : The Gaming community is Huge and exist for the sole cause to have fun. However, I am aware of the fact that gaming can be addictive to certain individuals and addiction will always be a negative term, there is no good side to gaming addiction.

1a. Do you play computer games? (If no, you can quit this after 1b)

Yes

1b. Why/why not?

Computer games unlike console games are way more versitile. They arent bent on everyone with the smae unmodable console, or non-expanding game content. You have a story line and thats it. Unless like on XBox they release new map packs, your stuck with stock.

Computers on the other hand you can mod, change, its about whats inside just as much as how it looks on the outside. Sure I can sink thousands of dollars into my system and still not be where i want to, but thats what makes computers great. There is no limit to ways they can be customized. Colors, shaps, sizes, lighting, or parts.

Good luck with your project I hope this helped. Sorry for length I tend to rant Twisted Evil
Have an artistic tallent? then you can express it on the computer. I make 3d models and maps to expand games. Can I do that on a console. NO!

2a. How long do you play on average each day?

I play 0-4 hours.

I work 1-10 on models, school work, art, maps.

2b. What is the longest you ever played without a decent pause?

36 hours

3a. Would you consider yourself addicted to games?

yes

3b. Why?/Why not?

Hmm read above! (2a & 2b)

4. If you would have to just without a reason give up gaming forever, could you do it?

With out a diecent reason, probably not. Why would I want to tho is the question. What else is there to do in a town that literally dies in the winter going from 250,000 people to under 20,000 people, ost of whom are over 50.

5. Have you ever not gone to sleep, school/work or ignored other important things to play a game? Often or rarely?

Rarely, Has to be a good session of games going and people I know ready to do the same.

6. Anything else you want to add abot why you play, gaming culture or just allaround?

Gaming is fun. The experience gets much better with a group or "clan." I will use the clan Ijoined as an example to my point. I joined Northern Guerilla Reaver Unit about 3 years ago. Since then we as a whole have been hit with almost every disaster you can think of. Were still here because of the friendhip and the memories we all share. Day after day I can log onto a website full of friedns and say hi. Have someone who wont judge bias or predjudise against me and they have the same. Night after night, I log onto teamspeak to the usual croud and say Whats up, the find out what game were playing and were were doing it. Clans and gaming groups are great but dangerous things. Find a diecent one and hold on tight for the ride and I guarintee if it is any good your gaming experience will go up. Come past our site and say hi or ask questions. My name there is ame as here. HTTP://www.clan-ngru.com (NOTE: this is not a recruitment invatitaon. We do not openly recruit. Sorry to disapoint you.)

1a. Yes
1b. To pass time (I don't watch much TV), and for the entertainment value. Also, some games are very educational.
2a. On the average - 1 hour.
2b. Couple of hours at the most.
3a. No
3b. I don't get into the games that much, and if there is something to do outside, or some work that needs to be done, I'd rather do it.
4. I could do it, but I don't think my life would be as happy.
5. Rarely, but there have been a few times that I would miss a class (back in my school days), because I wanted to play a game. This would not be the only time I missed some classes - I would also miss them when a super CD was coming out, and I wanted to listen to it!!!
6. I'll add that I do not do the multi-player games, or the on-line games, and at this point in my life, I'm rather cheap on the games I do buy. I wait for the prices to drop, because $50 is too much for me to spend on a game that I know will not work, and that there will be a 'GOLD' version of in the future that will include expansion packs, and be cheaper! Also, I buy every game I play - I do not do illegal copies, etc.
