Setting up a mail environment on my desktop

rohan2kool
Actually I want to setup an SMTP server on my desktop so I cn check out my apps + php scripts that use e-mail and all the rest, for ex. php using mail() function and so on...

So what I want to do is setup an SMTP server on my desktop for ex. smtp.localhost.com and make two addresses on it for ex. rohan@smtp.localhost.com and rohan2kool@smtp.localhost.com and then check my applications/scripts which require e-mail support.

So.. how do I go about it and which server is good and where can I download it?

Mercury is a very good program. Its both a pop3 server and smtp server.

It will use 127.0.0.1 which is also localhost and therefore all addresses will be name@localhost or name@127.0.0.1.

The address is http://www.pmail.com/downloads.htm

You will need "Mercury Mail Transport System for Win32 and NetWare Systems v4.01a" or "Mercury Mail Transport System for Novell NetWare Servers (NLMs) v1.48" if you are on a Novell Netware system, but seens its for your home i would say you will need the Win32 version.
