it is a good job,but it take more time before the computer.more time sit the chair, little time for relax ur body.i think it will not fit the health
eLto
Man, I would love a job like that! I play games all the time, and I always find flaws and such in them, and think that I should work in a company like that, so I can help them make games better. In my humble opinion, that is.

I find games very entertaining, and I even base some of my work and stuff on games for pc or playstation or whatever.

I will keep you all updated wih screenshots and links to site.

Wow cCoolCooll, I have always wondered how you guys design games. What programs do you use, and for which platforms do you develop games (PSP, PC, Gameboy, etc)

Hey...I admire you! I wanna be a game designer. Teach me how?

I have been into designing basic things with 3DsMAX, I have been into basic C Programming and I have tried making games with several pre-made programs and engines (e.g. the Unreal Engine). And I think that the job itself might be stressing, however the greatest satisfaction will come from seeing your creations and code merging together and coming to live. Same thing with programmin, whenever I have some bugs I search and search and believe me it ain't that fun but when you finally tracked down the problem and it works you feel like you won the million dollar lottery Very Happy Im a better webdesigner then I am a programmer or modeller, and with making website I dont have so much trouble but still the most fun parts are in seeing your stuff work.
sbel
I'm just amazed how people design games. It does sound stressing, but just imagine how much you get out of your effort. It's more than money, it's the whole package, it's fame as well.

It's good to hear that your the founder and owner of Destiny Games and Demonic-RO
skinnykhalida
i would love to test/play any of ur games =D
evilryu530
post up ur site, games or whatevr so we can test them.
DarkAkira
I will definately be putting some stuff up soon.

Right now all of the companies focus is on Demonic-RO. We are releasing a new version of our MMORPG and it will be using our new server technology that we have been developing.

I own the php-gamers site, although it is undergoing reconstruction(it'll look kinda ugly) we are currently developing a game that can be played online.

Game design is awesome, I wish I new what to do, see there's this game that I play just because it's fun, but it's counter strike mod and it's called the specialist, and its of course first person shooter that has a few kewl features, like Kung Fu, and it was designed so that you could kick weapons out of an enemies hand and dive and do flips etc. I wish they would add something of that nature to like lets say battlefield, then the game would own all other first person shooters. See TS is kewl to play for a while but it's just first person and its only deathmatch. So if I could design a game it would have more than just fps or ctf . Hell the The Specialist was designed for those matrix fans so if any of you out there like the matrix just play this game for a while you'll see its fun well despite the hackers. but yeah if you could can you inform us of what programs are good etc it would me much appreciated.. happy posting!!!
DarkAkira
For 3d programs, use Maya and 3dStudio max 9.

3d Studio is great for modeling, and maya is unrivaled for textures.

Wow ive always dreamt of a gamer's life.....But now that i come to think of it I dont think it could be too good for the health!!! I think a healthy body kinda brings out a healthy mind.....I remember being overweight not too long back and after i started the exercises I feel smarter and much more active.....As long as you can cross that hurdle with the gaming world its gonna rock so hard after that!!!

To this di I haven't met anybody that does game design/game testing for a living, I wonder if your health is at risk? Do you have an over weight problem and is it worth the money and time to pursue this as an occupation. Anybody do this for a living? Please your input would be greatly appreciated. Happy Posting Droop
DarkAkira
I am not sure what everyone is tlking about with health problems, but I know I am an unhealthy 97 lbs. I am 5' 10". I am retardedly under-weight. But as long as you dont sit on your ass, there is no risk in these careers.

In game design, you cn have entry level careers that can start at 60-70,000 per year. That is more than most people make. It is a well paying industry that is very under-staffed because alot of people dont consider it as a carer.

And if you dont want to get fat, test gamees like DDR.

Anticollie:

If I need the hep I will give you a buzz. FYI... your site doesnt work.

And note to everyone:

Ive heard everyone using 3d studio max, but why not blender 3d?
DarkAkira
Blender is no where near as powerful as 3d Studio Max 9.

Other good prgrams are Maya 8.5, Lightwave, Modo.

Blender is ok, it is free.

Houdini is the greatest in the world. But it is even more expensive than anything

Game Design is very interesting and really, its up to your imagination for how exciting the game is!

Game Maker is a very very easy tool, which can create great games. Its very easy to use and its a good place to start.

well, that's a really good job for young people and for those who're fond of playing games. However, as i know, a good job is not necessarily the very hobby of all. Thus, to get such a job like game designer is really wonderful and funny.

By the way, do you want to recruit some players for testing? msg me Wink
DarkAkira
I do recruit for testing, but havent needed any lately.

When we atart on a new project, I might need some new beta testers.
Satori
So what kind of games has your company created? I'm usually a big RPG fan and would be interested to know if I'd heard of any titles you've made. I'm not so much into the MMORGP because I played Ultima Online for a couple years and though I enjoyed it thoroughly, it kinda sucked away my life. So now that I've broken free, I'm pretty good at avoiding even playing any so I don't get sucked in again Smile

I never could figure out how to apply textures and stuff with blender anyway. The farthest I ever got was a simple model of this "3d bathroom sign" guy.

I'd like to see your game/s when they're finished. I'm looking into game designing, I do a bit of programming now and then. I guess it could get boring - typing code after line after code, and all cramped up. But hey, it would be great to see a finished game with your name in the credits.
centroeducativoasodesi
There are lots of tools in order to modify the story. I would like to design or help to create the third part!
centroeducativoasodesi
Have you tried blender to design your RPG games?
I tried to do a game by myself but it's a bit complicated, though i have worked on blender during a long time! it has some advantages to design a game.
DarkAkira
We create mainly RPG's and MMORPG's

We are currently working on a new project now.

We are now creating "The World" from the popular .hack// series. It will be an MMO, and will be in full 3d.

The game will be compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, and Mac OSX.

It is going to use OpenGL for a renderer, and will be coded in C++.

I'm about to start taking courses in programming and stuff.. Even I'm looking forward to game designing.... have always been interested in Software Development.. ever since I was a kid.. I'd sure love to see your games... I know it takes a lot of time before the computer and less time tor relax.. but hey, anyway I sit before the comp for more than 10 hours a day, so what's the big deal? Razz Razz

When i create a website or game i use flash for the game, HTML and PHP for the website. if you google on one of those you`ll find enough

I have a question to you, you wrote about a game which has 6 chars, 6 storylines and 140 hours gameplay while professional games (with storyline) have an average of 50 hours (according to gamers, games should have a maximum of 60 hours because of boredom, just a random fact). How did you manage to create such a game which has so much gameplay? My passion lays with designing game engines and maybe (small chance) we can collaborate Very Happy I would love to see some of your work. If you can, can you update me with PM.

He was talking about real game, in which case, he would not use the sources you recommended. Please read the post before replying.

We achieve this because each of the 6 characters has their own storyline. At the beginning of the game, you choose the character you want to use, and follow their story. Each character has a separate story and their own adventures, but EVERY character is intertwined in some way.

As far as EVERYONE wanting to see my work, I do not have anything to show right now.

My company website was taken down (by me), and i scrapped 90% of my old work to make way for new stuff (I don't like looking back, slows me down).

Currently, my company is going through a name change (i dont know what yet), and will be focusing on a variety of things. The reason for the name change is that we no longer just deal with video games anymore. See Details Below.

1. We will be working on "The World" R:1 from the .hack// series. It is a massive 3d MMORPG, and we are hoping for a 2008 release of the BETA. We are working with Bandai Namco on this project, and they are helping us with resources, and might publish the game for us upon completion (still working that out).

2. My company is now creating an Operating System that will rival OSX and Windows. It is a completely new design that is rendered in OpenGL. It has a variety of features never before seen in an OS, and will have a public BETA available when it is ready. No date has been set for release. Currently, the kernel is 92% completed, and the GUI has begun concept design, and some development.

I'm a game designer too. I'm the founder of Aninoasa Productions. At the moment we're making a shootout game and we probably will start work on a rpg.
DarkAkira
Cool. Good Luck with your project.

Just a random question, how many years of experience do you have?
DarkAkira
Right now I am going on year 9 in 3d modeling and game design.

That is a pretty long time Smile
DarkAkira
Yes it is. I have been doing it since I was a kid.

Thats interesting job. Is it difficult ???
liquid573
Hey Dark. I am currently a year from graduating with a degree in Game Art and Design. I am mostly interested in texture art or the actual design aspect. Do you have any advice for someone trying to get their feet wet in the industry? This close to finishing I still find myself not having a clue as to where to start.
max2500
I'm a student currently studying Games software development, I think its quite funny when everyone goes, oh thats a dream job, I'd love to do that, especially 'can you teach me?'

Yeah in a way it is a dream job, but its also sitting around all day coding for endless hours, or trying to make levels flow etc.

And the can you teach me part, well not really. You can teach yourself, but you have to be very determined and have good resources. I'm currently studying in a 5 year course for this profession, lets just say, yes its fun, but its also a hell of a lot of hard work too Smile

The best you can do is create a GREAT portfolio that represents what you can do, and a lot of examples of work you have done. Presenting that with a good resume is he best way to get into the industry after school.
madpotatokipp
game design was something i always wanted to do, but just never got around to it
Legolas710
I have a job like that. Smile

Game Development is great and I love it!
DarkAkira
It is great, but there are parts that can rather stressful.

For example, you could write an awesome renderer for your game engine, and then have it crash on 1 model in the game for a reason. Then you have to try and find the reason, and go through all your code.

What a pain.
edzofcit
Game Designing is cool. You can express yourself through making characters and game stories. Game designer is my ambition when I'm still at high school. That's the reason why I take up IT at college, but, at the midst of my IT studies, I found web programming the coolest. That's why, as of now, I do web programming..
DarkAkira
I do Web and Graphic Design as a profession.

I do alot of Freelance work around the world, but I also have a local job. Not a bad combo.

You know whats a pain though...

PHP & CSS

What an annoying combo. Then throw AJAX in the mix and AHHH WTF!!!

But I like web design. Coding can be fun.
ozziejim
ive been designing, modelling and leading game projects for years now, freelance and corporate but am in the middle of launching my own company, OZCentral Entertainment.

By the way, we are currently looking for freelance java game programmers if anyone is interested, as we are entering the web and mobile game field. Send me a PM if anyone is interested.

I would say the best tool for designing Game Characters and Props is 3dsmax, although i would not recommend it as a World Editor, there are plenty of cheap and free world editor programs out there, although i hear 3dsmax 2008 will correct these issues and add many new features for Geometry based Modelling.

good, RPG game is my favourite type of game. One of my friends studies RPG game theory and works on the underlying rules in RPG story telling. And I know that different culture background and difficulty setting will generate different user experience and game joy. So, give us some links to your workpieces. I am glad to test them whenever I got time Wink

Hey, that's great... I wanted for many years be a game designer... but in my country, Colombia, that job is an uthopy. Well, I want to play some of your game someday because are my favorites (RPG)... Excuse my english... I'm still learning. I speak spanish.
DarkAkira
As I said before...

There are no more links to my games. I hate my old work (to primitive) and took them all down LONG ago.

However.... GOO NEWS EVERYONE!

Me and my friend are beggining work on a new short game (about 30 minutes, just for fun). It will be a 3rd Person Shooter, and the graphics will be Epic. We will probably be using the Unreal3 Engine for the game.
