Depending on how advanced you want your website, you can either type your own html (not recommended unless you want to teach yourself html) or use a WYSIWYG editor.

NVU is pretty good, and free, but there are hundreds of others. You can also get free Serif Web Plus at http://www.freeserifsoftware.com

You can get more advanced packages if you pay for them, but there are far too many to mention. Why not try Googling a few and see what you come up with?

If you want to learn html that you can practice in notepad then do a search on google for something like HTML basics.

There are a lot of sites out there that can demonstrate to you how to make a basic page. For more advanced sites I would consider looking into a WYSIWG editor. The program that I first started on and still use on occasions was NetObjects Fusion, which is available from netobjects.com

Start form idea of what you want to see on your web page. Its always easier to learn when you want to do something, but do not know how. Put just simple text in index.html, put on the server and open your website. You will find out that your text is unformated and also all the text in one line. Then take a look at some tutorial or help file and find how to start new line. After maybe you will need to make bolder page title or change text color ... just do everything step by step. Read manuals, tutorials, analyze other websites html source.
WYSIWYG editor is good, but you will not get good looking website without at least basic knowledge of html

I used WebPlus in my early days and there were a lot of problems with it.

Take a look at the templates at http://oswd.com

Download a few & play around with them. You'll soon get the hang of it.
Also, read the tutorials that are available online. w3schools have excellent ones.

I use a WYSIWYG editor, GoLive which I really like from Adobe. You have to pay for it but if you're a student, you get a discount. Another popular one is Dreamweaver by Macromedia, although now also owned by Adobe. This is more expensive than GoLive, but many people say it is better (I've never tried it.)

If you want to learn HTML, which I highly recommend, start by working through the tutorials on HTML Dog. That site has a lot of great information on it.

When you get a little more experience, start learning how to make it better. Look at websites like Web Pages That Suck and A List Apart.

Most of all, have fun!

I reccomend you to learn html yourself.... it is easy and can be learned in days.... you can go to the website http://www.lissaexplains.com/basics.shtml and learn from them... don't mind it is for kids.... and thaz an advantage too... cause it is explained in a very very simple way.. so that a kid could even understand... I hope this will help a lot...

I am using Nvu to publish to frihost.
For some reason I cant get what i publish to load into the public.html file for view outside of the admin page. I followed Nvu's tutorial and used the things listed in my account email but evrything ends up not veiwable external to the admin page.
Any suggestions?
