How did you start using PHP? What should be done? Software used? Server-side versus client-side difference? Good sites for help?

I would also like to know how php works. I've done plenty of html and would like to know how to start programing or get prewrote scripts to use. Does any one have some links there willing to share?

the key to writing PHP is to set yourself a project, something you know is possible. Lets say you can start by a simple email form that compiles input into a message and sends it to your email adress (make sure the web host has it enabled).
Then I think the next good idea is to integrate with a database and work on creating a guestbook or something simple like that.
It took me ages to learn the basics of PHP but I got helped by alot of friends I chat to online knew it very well and even did it for their jobs so I had lots of help, set a task follow it to completition even if you have to ask on the PHP forum here for how to do every second thing.
