Serial killer tries to kill himself.

I found this on one of my nightly "track down the prarnormal" searchs, I oppened my web browser, and this article caught my eye.

Quote:
Serial killer tried to bite himself to death -court
LONDON (Reuters) - A man on trial for murdering four people tried to bite himself to death as a fitting end to his killing spree, an Old Bailey jury heard on Wednesday.

A consultant psychiatrist said Daniel Gonzalez tried to repeatedly bite through arteries in his arms while at Broadmoor high security hospital in an attempt to commit suicide because he believed that he had not done enough after killing four victims.

"I have never seen anyone bite themselves with the ferocity that he did," Edward Petch said. "It was with a clear intent to die. It was a serious attempt on his life.

"He had allegedly killed four people and tried to kill six and we all felt there was one more left -- himself -- and he wouldn't stop until he succeeded.

Gonzalez also attacked staff at the hospital, where Moors murderer Ian Brady and Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe are held, and even assaulted his own mother and grandmother when they visited.

Petch said Gonzalez was the most disturbed patient he had ever come across, who re-enacted the murders by mimicking stabbing motions.

"We are used to taking high risk offenders in all states of illness but I have never seen anything like this. The degree of disturbance was without parallel in my experience," he told the court.

When Gonzalez was transferred to Broadmoor he was accompanied by seven guards, four of whom wore protective riot gear.

The court has already heard how Gonzalez, who denies murder but admits manslaughter due to diminished responsibility, attacked six strangers, killing four, in a three-day spree that began on September 15, 2004 in the hope of becoming a notorious serial killer.

Richard Horwell for the prosecution has said 25-year-old Gonzalez deliberately targeted the vulnerable and hoped to get his murder tally into double figures.

Gonzalez is charged with murdering Marie Harding, Kevin Malloy, Derek Robinson and his wife Jean. He admits attempted murder on Peter King and Koumis Constantinou.

For some reason this story reminded me of Macbeth Shocked I mean the scottish play.
still, if he's a serial killer and if he wanted to die surely he'd have a knife somewhere?

He only wants to kill himself because he is weak. Weak people kill themselves which maybe hard to say but when you think about it it is true. He doesn't like that he's going to spend the rest of his miserable life in a prison cell which personally I find to get a little pleasure out of. In cases liek this I believe that the death penalty should be brought back to England, he isn't mentally ill he is depressed. it is also not fair that the law-abiding citizens of the UK will have to pay for him for the rest of his life.

That's an interesting story, people are strange these days. Speaking of Macbeth, I am going to watch it in a little while at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.

That is really quite sad...
Anyone with some type of skill should be able to get into the double digits.

He didn't have a knife because he was in a high security prison. But if a murderer wanted to kill himself (especially in a painful manner), why not let him? Save some money by not having to house him in a prison.

Or maybe he was just trying to get some attention. Maybe he thought people would say, "Oh, what a poor, deranged man. I feel sorry for him." I hope nobody said that.

what happened to trying to hang yourself and other conventional methods of suicide?? Trying to eat yourself to death is a bit extreme. They shold probably just kill him. Because, seriously, what do you do with a guy like that

Everybody is weak and everybody takes it out in different ways, I hate the way you have generalised suicidale people as being weak as I am / was suicidale.

Plus he was in a hospital at the time and we don't know the type of conditions he was in under, though you could always bite your tongue off at the base.

Firstly sorry for such a big quote but I found it hard to decide what to leave out.

Firstly I would say I doubt weakness has anything to do with his wanting to end his life in such a way. I would put it down to his state of mind. Which I believe is emphasised by his choice of method. After all if you want to kill yourself, there are far easier, and less painful ( and more succesful) methods available, even in prison, and even in Broadmoor, which is although a hospital has higher security that most high security prisons due to the sort of people housed there.

Those judged to be of sound mind are sent to high security prisons NOT high security hospitals. Most people in the UK if asked what Broadmoor was would tell you, it's where we put the criminally insane ( although that is an expression of people's views and not intended to be my definition of Broadmoor, nor an official definition).
If all he had was depression he most certainly would not have been a Broadmoor inmate.

As for the people in the UK not having to support him if he kills himself, well, we have to pay for all the criminals we imprison here in the UK...including all the murderers. The abolition of capital punishment will always be a hot topic in this and most other countries, but if you asked most people here what their thoughts are I doubt many of them would mention money or if they did it would be low on their list. No matter what side of the debate they support. So I doubt you will ever see it brought back here for monetary reasons.

do you honestly think that someone who killed the amount of people that he did is really thinking about jail?
In his point of view- i have to admit that none of us can really say what is going on in his head- byt anyway it is the ''perfect ending'' . What a better way to finish the story than killing himslef-kind of melodramatic though.i didnt quite catch how his attemp ended i just hope he succeded.
Or on the other hand maybe he is quite sane and he does this so that he doesent get the chair or for life i dont quite know how your system works over their..maybe he can get away with playing crazy..not!![color=darkred]

"in the hope of becoming a notorious serial killer."

That's a very sick and twisted part. What does this say about society and our media coverage of these events? The focus is far too often placed on killers and not on the victims. We sensationalize the crime and continue to damage and frighten the families of those who are left behind. It's a very dangerous and sickening fact that people would ever seek to be notorious. It's almost vomit-inducing when you think how the families are ignored and brushed aside that have lost loved ones.
