Can anyone here who follows either no religion or a self-serving religion truly say that their quality of life has never been improved by Christianity or Christian morals? This is especially aimed towards people who mock Christian values.

I'm not Christian myself but I can tell you right now, the more I try to develop myself the more I mature out of the need or desire to serve only myself and I think more about how many people I owe, and owe me, and my sense of self-gratification is replaced with a desire to improve many other peoples lives instead.

Just wanted to see if anyone thinks as I do.

Yes, it has,

But likewise war offers many benefits yet is not (by any stretch of the imagination) an entirely good thing, rather it has humungous faults but still yields the occasional reward
junodark
War has no winners, ever. No benefits, post war booms are never sustained and there is too much sacrificed in the first place. And Christian morals dont present a downside, just certain individuals.

I am a little bit confused on what you proclaim Christian morals to be... Is it being good? The Ten Commandments? If so, why must we classify them as "Christian" morals and not "life morals", or "strong morals" or even Buddhist morals for the sake of religions? Could we claim that because Christianity tries to inculcate these ideals upon the believers, these are indeed Christian only morals? Perhaps, I have just misunderstood the post, for I agree at least what I think you mean as Christian morals tend to improve most’ life style.

I'm confused about the whole question and topic Confused

What I understand so far, is that 'Christian values and Godlike creatures' seem to dominate almost every topic on this site!

No wonder though, when even non-Christians start such treads, allthough this part of the story is actually hard to believe for me, because of the way this question is asked.
It's very hard to say no this way .... and I recognize mission-work from miles away Laughing

Undoubtably I have, at one time or another, followed "Christian morals". Actually, let's make that just about all the time because "Christian morals" are the same morals that most everyone follows, regardless of their religion, or lack thereof. Even most self-serving people follow "Christian morals" most of the time, for the simple reason that they are often very advantageous to the self.

I'd like to point out that the question itself has some serious issues. Christianity has very few morals or values specific to itself. Most of the morals are found in a wide number of religions and a wide number of cultures, for the simple reason that they are evolutionarily beneficial or relics of emotion (I'm not sure which yet). To call them only "Christian morals" is both incorrect and ignorant, unless you mean the few morals/values which are much more Christian specific, like: "Go preach to the heathen masses" or some such. It just so happens that these few specific morals are the very ones the most atheists criticize so much.

I will start with one of my favourite quotes:

"Its not the God i hate, its his fanclub i can't stand."

Pretty selfexplanatory, never had anything against Christianity, it were always Christians that took me down and at the same time never stopped talking how they want to save me. No thanks. Personaly i think that its Christians who dont do Christianity a justice. Apology to all the normal Christians. Smile

PS.: I wouldnt be talking about Christian morals here couse those moral values were here even before Christ and also will be here long after the Christians are gone. Wink

'Christian morals' right... sorry to break it to you but it's more like commen sense, you don't need the bible to be a better person.

If you need the morals of a particular religion to be a better person then you are better off following that religion instead of imposing your ideals on others. There are lots of people happy with their existence without complicating it by adding religion.

You don't need any religious morals to be moralistic like you don't need religion to do good to your neighbour.

I think you better study history a bit more. Germany managed to pull itself out of recession through war. And beyond that technological advancements during wartime are huge, these advancements dont get taken back when the war ends.

Now as for the question I'd have to say its very broad. You could say christians have improved my quality of life since I have many great friends who are christian, I also have great friends who are Muslim, Jewish and Atheist (including me) I wish I knew people from more religious backgrounds because each person is different. But I wont place an answer since it is a very broad question.

It wasn't necessarily about are there spoils, I mean come on I live in the US, a country founded through war, established through war and prospering from wars. However the point was: Are the deaths worth the economic boost?

Anyway this poll was just because I saw a lot of people mocking Christians (as a group of people) and just wondered if anyone had a basis for it. Thanks for your responses so far! Very Happy

If you want to link Christianity to war that's easy aswell, during the crusades Christianity inflicted it's moral system in the most brutal way possible, often employing torture which I don't believe is against anything he bible says and is still carried on in the US today often supported by that basis.

But anyway, the Crusades caused the widespread adoption of Christian morals but also destroyed many lives cultures and religions in the process, so yeah, there were good results, sadly there were other things too.

I don't know. What are Christian morals?
Wouldn't there be the same morals when there was no such thing as Christianity? Isn't Christian moral just something like common sense?
srdjan
Yeah, I don't think I ever prospered from christianity...I never thought about doing something, and then re-tought it using 'christian morals'..Does that make any sense? It's like, I never thought about doing something bad for instance, and then said to myself: 'Hey the Bible teaches us not to do that!' No, never! I'm guided, as many here by common sense..and I don't need Bible to tell me to treat others the way I'd like to be treated.

Nonetheless I consider the Bible to be a good collection of general pointers for life...and some crap haha!

And about the war...It sucks! And the creepiest thing is that the people who lead our countries into wars think it is worth all the lives..I guess they have some sort of secret scale where they measure it Evil or Very Mad motherfu**ers

I don't think my life has improved because of 'taking over' christian values, because Christianity does not 'own' these values. I find important what I find important, that has nothing to do with christianity. 'Love of one's fellow-man' isn't a christian value by example, not only christians find this value important.

i have to say some of the christian morals have improved me in one way or another. but the thing is, the morals that have i follow are basically in almost every other major religion out there. so i cannot say that it was the christian morals that have helped me but rather, the basic morals of life?

i know many people dislike christians for more than one reason, i myself am not a christian but i used to be i guess. i used to read the bible, go to church, and yea i prayed. but after a while it seemed unneccessary to do all these because if the god all the christians believe in is as good and forgiving as they say, then god wouldn't mind if i stopped going to church and praying but do my best to live a good and prosperous life right? if i don't steal kill pillage rape or do any of those other things that god says not to do isn't that what god wants us to do? what kind of god would throw his creation into the pits of hell if you do everything he tells you but just don't keep in contact with him as often as the people who do?
i'll tell you why i'm not a christian. too much crap going on in the system. i see too many people do some pretty horrible things out there then go to church, confess one sunday then feel everything's wiped clean and then go out and do it again... too many people praising the lord's name in church then go home drink and beat their kids... i'm sure that goes for all religions out there. there's always some poeple who hide behind them. but i just see a lot more of that going on in this religion...

You might want to check out a book called Revolutionaries by George Barna. Its relatively new I believe. Its a book about people leaving the church to pursue Jesus. I just picked it up the other day, but haven't gotten the chance to get into it yet, but its suppose to be pretty cool. And its only $18 sticker price, but I've seen it on sale lately.

In my opinion, Christianity has got its morals all wrong. I prefer my own system of morals.

funny how you say god loves the world and killed his own son, yet you say to follow jesus not god. why is it everytime people quote from the bible (aka god's book not jesus' book) they always say follow jesus? wasn't jesus just a pond in god's attempt to gain more followers?

not to seem blasphemistic or anything but i think people need to stop john 3:16 to try to convert people to christianity. if you think about it, it's a very horrible thing to do. if i had a son and i had him killed, then said that he died for your sins, i'm pretty sure i'd get the insanity ward.

i really hate people who preach the bible to other people. the bible is the most well knowned book in the history of mankind. everyone's heard about it, probably even read it, despite their religion. so please, when you start giving me quotes from the bible and telling me what to do, keep in mind that i already read the bible, and i've made my choice of being a christian or not. no need for you help, thanks ^. -
