I also like both Yahoo and Google, but it seems (to me) that Google dumps alot of repeat links in thier search results and also the returns are a bit overblown. The last thing I need is to have to wade through a half a million search results, alot of them being repeat links, just to find something I'm looking for. Not that Yahoo is much better, but Yahoo doesn't spider other search engines for keywords and then add those results to thier search database like Google does.
I prefer a search engine like DMOZ or the like....they screen thier new additions before adding them to thier engine and check the sites regularly for dead/broken links and cull them from thier database.

Google is the best! Their interface is the best among the other search engines.. loads fast and not filled with so many images like yahoo!.. Their services and programs such as Gmail, Google Earth, etc rawks the web too!
i'm too used using google to use anything else.
Google for me.
well most of the people that are computer enthusieset are going to say they like google because of the vast amount of informational websites it can give you.
I choose Google over Yahoo, simply because it is faster and gives me more relavent links. Everytime when I'm looking for stuff google always gives me what I want, whereas I have to look through several pages on Yahoo to find a good place.
Google is the best search engine ever!
They got the best programers there, and the free services they offer are just amazing!
Someday Google will kick microsoft's ass

I use Blingo.com!
It's essentially Google but you get the chance to win prizes! I already recieved a free movie ticket from them. I think you have to live in the US to win the prizes though.
So if you sign up and live in the US, please refer me ;o

I personally use google the most but i also find yahoo a good search engine. Really dont like ask.com, even more now its just called ask and the company behind it responsible for that awful smileycentral adware.
Google is very useful to me in searching. I use only yahoo to get a second search and for email. Well, majorly for emails.
Definitely Google!
It's fast, relevant (ummm...well, as relevant as you can be, with all the junk you can find in the internet nowdays...) and there are great search queries you can run...check out

I used to search using yahoo, metacrawler, dogpile...you name it, but I became a total google adict

On a side note, it's not going to be askjeeves anymore, just ask. They're retiring jeeves.
I use google. Been so even before they became so popular.

It really depends what are you searching for. So both yahoo and google are on the same level. But i still prefer yahoo because I have been using it for years
..
Google is the best.
Yahoo is slow.
Ask is inaccurate.
This is just my opinion though.
I hope I don't get flaming from those rude people.

Google is far away best search engine for me and almost every time it finds most results on very surveyable way. It also have some great projects like Gmail, Google Earth, Desktop search etc. and I use them all. I think it's simply unbeatable, because people use it all over the world - consecutiveness
it is on 6th place as the most respected business all over the world.
Poor Chinese because Google had to introduce censorship for their country. It looks something like this:

Google for the speed. I use both though, especially when I'm searching for pictures.
Google is the best one!!
needs less time to load and search!!
But, as a website owner, i feels like,
Yahoo and MSN indexes new websites much faster than Google does!!

Google is considerably better, but I think we already established that a long time ago. They have really turned around the past few years. I used to use MSN for a search engine, thought they were the best but nope not anymore.
Where's my Ask.com on the poll?!?!
I use to think Google was good, but I did a little research paper and rarely use them anymore. I don't like monopolies, and the money Google makes by ripping people off is outrageous. Additionally, they're tied up in some copyright infringements, but it won't be taken to court simply because Google is too big to beat. Furthermore, Google has no concern for it's users' privacy.
I could rant on and on and on, but it's just easier to link to http://www.google-watch.org/ and say "Use Ask.com!"

I love Google. It gives me my results in like .001 seconds, fast and user-friendly. Plus they're the biggest and the best.
Ive always used google because it does the job and does it quickly. Google all the way!
I use google, but the common problem of these search engines is inflection of words, so i must use local search engines which are better.
Google is only the fastest because of the monopoly it's currently leading. Smaller, possibly more-efficient search engines just don't stand a chance against such a well-known name. Additionally, although the layout is user-friendly, and the Google leaders take actions to appear as though they care about its users, the fact remains that they have a profile on everyone that has ever used their service. Furthermore, they have the right to sell this personally-identifyable (and possibly private) information to anyone they please, without liabilities or consequences.
It's a shame to see so many people have fallen for this facade.

I avoid Yahoo as much as possible, and MUCH prefer Google.
What I really like is http://www.profusion.com. It tends to be more accurate than most, especially with boolean searches.
Back when it still was a free, general search engine, I also really liked Northernlight. Unfortunately, it became a more specialized, pay site a few years ago. What HAD made it unique was its categorization of search results into "folders" that often helped produce superb search results that were not polluted with a bunch of unrelated items. Alas, it apepars nobody has anything like that any more.

Google is NOT a monopoly - they do not have exclusive control over the commercial activity in which they are engaged, else Yahoo and any others would not exist. The same fallacious, emotionally based arguments were used against K-Mart, then someone named "WalMart" came along and did things better, and now people use the same arguments against WalMart.
It's a shame that people don't recall that Google was just such a smaller search engine and that they have grown to their current status BY being better. In addition, EVERY search engine has a profile for their users: that's one of the ways in which they work! Aside from that, people who are not doing anything illegal would have no reason to worry about such profiles.
Simply stated, if someone actually works hard and produces something that becomes popular enough for most people to like it, there will be bitter detractors who think that all that hard work was nothing more than being "more fortunate." Heaven forbid that such a person should ever succeed, else he would not be able to live with himself since he would have turned into the very thing he hates.
Google just rules the roost./.
I will go with google anytime than the others

some other search engines are innovative and cool but the best results are in google

Ok, a monopoly is an exaggeration, I admit. However, the word domination would suit better. Unfortunately for us, Google is dominating the net. Poorly supported arguements won't change that.
Google was once a small good search engine, yes. Once. Now they rely on borderline-illegal activities and disregard the privacy of their users more than any other search engine to further boost their already-bloated profits. They were the first to set a cookie that wouldn't expire until 2038--illegal at the time it was put into practice. Additionally, all information collected any one user is stored, and never deleted. Furthermore, Google continues to infringe on copyrights granted to millions of webmasters and authors around the world through their caching and book-searching features. The only problem is that these groups have yet to be organized enough to challenge Google in court.
I am grateful for all the small businesses that succeed. But when they have to resort to illegal and apathetic activities towards their users just to boost their own profits, they've lost my respect. I guess the infection has spread too far already...
Google is the best. It loads fast. It also gives almost accurate information - like it reads our mind and knows what we are searching for.

It's funny that you would say that. I did a report on Google and stumbled upon a few quotes, though I don't have the online sources with me...
Among them, the staff and leaders of Google mentioned that Google has not left out the idea of having the entire internet as a chip implanted in our brains--and in that chip, Google would be a prominent force to guide our thoughts as we think. Hmmm.... (That's just a paraphrase though)

So you did a report on google. What exactly did you report about it?
Google takes the cake by far.
I reported what I researched. And through my research, I fell upon some not-so-holy activities, some suspicious logging techniques, and overall illegal caching of both websites and books.
I started from an unbiased position. If you're even willing to look into the topic, you'd see Google isn't the jolly old man you want it to be. It's all about profits, even at the cost of the users' privacy.

What company out there isn't in it for the money? The point is they all are in it for the money now. That is one said thing too. Google is a really good site but it was found by a project. Now all the people care about is moeny.
So every company wants money--that's true. But Google is an example of those that become even more greedy with every ounce of additional power that they can get. I liked Google before the Gmail, before Froogle, before the book search--when it was just a small but efficient search engine..
I admit, though, that since they have the largest bank of indexed sites, I still rely on Google for results. The only difference is that now I use Scroogle to scrape Google's results, but without losing any personal information in the process.

Google, easily.
I think Google is best. Its Fast. Its just so cool.
I use Google because you can use a personalized homepages it's prety cool you can put all your rss feeds on it!
I must say I never used Yahoo, but as far as I can tell, Google is quite user-friendly. Not that Yahoo isn't, but... Google's something I've been using for years.
My new favorite is www.live.com
i think google is the best
It depends on what I'm looking for. Google is my main image search but for information I choose AskJeeves. I rarely use Yahoo anymore though. Another one I like would be DogPile because it combines Google, Yahoo, Ask, and a lot of others.
I choose the best, GOOGLE
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star - GOOGLE is a Sooper Star....

Never Mind - Now iam working for a Leading IT servicing Organisation in India. We always dont have the information that we need to successfully complete our work. So we have to search and find the solutions for some complex theories to coded down. Now we dont sit and SEARCH the TEXT BOOKS.

Almost most of my colleques use a common term for Searching - It is not "SEARCH".
Now we GOOGLE it. Google has a solution for most of our Questions and problems. If not a full solution, atleast we get a compromising answer/solution. Most of the times, google is successfull in giving some solution where as other search engines like #ah## and ##N fails...
And also Google offers free service like Adsense, GTalk, GMail, Earth, Blogger, Calender, Picasa, Labs, API's, Finance, Froogle, etc....

Clusty and Vivisimo are my search engines of choice because I can wade through the results I want to wade through. For example, when you search Free Web Hosting on google, you will get results for cheap web hosting along with other offers you don't want. With clusty and vivisimo(search result), you click on free web hosting topic and you get results for free web hosting only - not hitfarms or typosquatters, just free web hosting.

Try searching for "Uncyclopedia". You will find no direct links to the Uncyclopedia. This is just a taste of Google censorship.
I gotta ask this question ui use google all the time to me its the easiest search engine going
it has less ads i think i have use yahoo like once or twice and it seems to have loads of ads
i dont wanna see ads i just want to see my results please post your opinions

I use Google. I find it easy. Maybe, I am just used to it. Maybe, because I have stock in it.
exalead.
I think google is the most simple, easy and fast...
I use google, because that is what I automatically type when I want to search for something. Google has done a great job of having a lot of useful stuff, and I just got used to typing "google".
I think it used be yahoo maybe 5-10 years ago, but now its google (being most used). I find google to be easier, more robust, and generally just got use to typing google as well. And being that i use gmail now, i have no use for yahoo...
I love google because it's simple and it does what I want!
I voted for Google because it is also simple but if you can do very cool things with it (like searching for music or definitions).
Also Google docs, Pictures,.... are very handy!!!

Google. Fast, simple, and gets me what I want. Whenever I search I either enter it into the Firefox or Opera search bar, or hit Ctrl+L and quickly type google.com. Doing the latter became a habit, so I'm used to it. I wouldn't really be doing this with Yahoo! and most other search engines since there's so much more on their pages and takes more time to load. Google is there in an instant.
I also use some tricks to get Google to search for certain file types, folders, and more. I couldn't do this in other search engines. Also, Google is integrated in so many places. This makes it even easier to use and more accessible.

Don't you mean CTRL + T, CTRL + L is for logging out of your windows account, CTRL + T is for a new tab
Adri
Yeah, Ctrl + T I use sometimes. That automatically gets me to the address bar. Ctrl + L is the shortcut to get you to the address bar without clicking. Windows + L logs you our of Windows.
I use google most of the time now.
I just wish it had less spam links
I just wish it had less spam links
I usually search on Google, but when I do not find anything that much helpful I go to Yahoo.
I can find what I looking for in google. And if I can't it probably doesn't exist. Rarely use yahoo. Both yahoo and google has ads but google is much more clean. The only thing yahoo can be good at is image search because it can be very different from the google image search result.

best regards,

I use Google all the time.... First and foremost because it is very easily accessible in firefor, I just have to type Ctrl+e (Windows only I suppose!). Even if I am not using Firefox, I open google for searches, definitions, files and sometimes for conversion between units (KGs to pounds, etc.).
Its neat, fast, less obtrusive (almost invisible) advertisements. And I have clicked on advertisements sometimes, because they looked relevant to what I am searching for, and interesting.

I used to only use Yahoo before, but now I only use google because its so much more simple and faster.
I use Yahoo 95% of the time. I only use google when I'm being lazy and type the search term into the address bar of firefox instead of the search bar (which I have configured to yahoo).
I'm using google for 99.99% of my web search.
I think that yahoo is not so bad, but I'm used to google now since at least 5 or 6 years.

Anyway, I always have and always will use Google as my default search engine. It's just always there. At school, the computer lab/library computers have google set as the homepage. Lol.

Yeah... Google did some smart thinking by investing resources in Firefox when it was coming up. setting itself as the default search engine did magic for them.
But consider this: Most of the forum members here are pretty net savvy, and hence non-IE users, mostly FF users. So my question is, are we getting the real picture here? I suppose more than 90% of the home/non-tech users still use Internet Explorer (unless sneaky guys like me install FF and setup the desktop icon to look like IE in cyber cafes
It's easier to type and remember yahoo.com than to google.com. And Yahoo was one of the first popular search engines, and still has an average person's brain share.
I usually only use Google. It is so well integrated into Firefox that it is just the easiest way to search. I think most people use Google over Yahoo at least as a search engine. "Google" has practically become a verb by now in most relatively tech savvy people's vocabulary.
Hands down, Google.
Its Google, of course.
But I use http://m.google.com instead as I'm accessing net mainly from my mobile.

I use Google, because it's fast, simple and with no shit like yahoo... I don't know why, but I perceive Yahoo to be very childish and simply stupid portal, it might be because of the commercials I had in my country about it.
Google is the best... with gmail/calendar/ and so many other things integrated
Google.
They keep their search page simple without a bunch of images and trash surrounding the box and the search results.

Sure, Google. Yahoo is full of advertisements and junk, their bots work slowlier than Google ones.
Google is fast, clean and large. And I don't like Yahoo services at all. They are too old
And why there's no other search engines like Altavista, russian Yandex or Rambler

google has a much easier and simpler interface than yahoo. I have only used yahoo like twice in my life and it's easy to find what I want. Google is my preferred search engine for sure
google is fine i use a lot of their services, gmail, docs, reader etc...
but i'm getting used with some weird things, for example, if i'm logged in with my account, google displays diferent results sometimes, or in some results that have been removed because some organization demmanded. it make me ponderate how much they control the inforation i use... anyway i like google serch .
when i get sometime i'll go forward a nice alternative search engine

Haha I would say funny poll, Most used and that too search engine, you must be joking right!!, a class 5th kid will also probably give us the right answer, Its google.
Google has almost become a phrase, when we say of searching anything on Internet we just only need to say "google it" and the listener understands what he needs to do.
Earlier I used other search engines also like yahoo, altavista but since when I have installed google toolbar their is no distraction on my mind except to use the leader search engine google.
Its hell lotta easy and its very fast, but yes it has many flaws in it too, for example you can search a range of number by placing 1..300 format but it is mentioned I don't know where on their site, they should atleast have a good user manual for it!!

Google. I prefer the format of the homepage to the Yahoo one. I think I've always used Google, too. When I first started using the computer, I only knew about mail.yahoo.com and not really the whole site, so.. by the time I found out (and wondered at just how easy you could miss the searchbar==), it was too late. Google FTW~
I despise Yahoo because it's full of distractions. Same reason why I hate Windows.
google of course. So user friendly, fast, and compatable. I would pick it anyday over other search engines, especialy msn.
Altavista (1995) -> Yahoo! (2000) -> Google (2005)
Besides having a solid database and good look-up speeds, Google's Scholar-, Image-, Directory- and Map-Search make using Google almost unavoidable.

I rarely use anything other than google, and I think the answer is going to be same for most of the people.
I'm a pretty early google user, although I'll readily switch to yahoo or live.com if I can't find something on google (mostly high resolution images, which google has fewer of).
On my website I've currently using Sphider search, but that's going to be quickly replaced with google site search. Sphider probably has slightly better search results, but then Google pays money...

I use google for most everything that I search for. never had any problems with getting the wrong results.
ALTAVISTA
...
JK, google obviously.

I like to be different so I use google
I really don't like their "overtaking everyone" (kind of microsoft philosophy...), but for now they're the more reliable and fast so I "have" to use it

A couple of years ago I always used Yahoo, but now, only google.
The front page is less complicated, less ads, less trouble.

First off, is it really so difficult to learn the English language properly? My god.
And, in response to what I think was your question, I use an engine I compiled myself to run off of all the most popular engines and conglomerate their results into one.
And, just a side note, only having two options on a poll like this is just plain retarded.

Google is the only way to go. I bet it'll eventually start thinking for itself one day. Like it could be the father of the time traveling artificial intelligence that controls our very life as we know it now. Hell, it could be the very same artificial intelligence in its infancy. Sure, you might think I'm crazy but it's not that far-fetched. Terminator & the Matrix aren't that far off. I'm rambling... Google.
Google here in the US. But yahoo has a lot of internet muscle though.
I use Google for the same reasons as you 'hoodline'. I also use Gmail. Google is pretty freekin' awsome compared to all the bloated competition! Especially Yahoo, and MSN! I hate it that it takes so long for them to load due to all the crap-adds that they run! (When I log into my email, I want to see my email. Not a bunch of stupid advertising!) Keep it basic.,Thats what I like! When I'm aiming to do one thing, thats what I expect to get!

Nice Shirt! LMAO! You look like the middle-eastern version of, John Travolta in 'Saturday Night Live'!

Must be Google, Yahoo just has too many adverts and other nonesense.
Google is extreemly popular in South Africa and we even have our own local portal to Goole which si www.goole.co.za

It's not the ads or other stuff that make yahoo unpopular, but I think it is the clutter on the homepage that pushes the people away!
Just open the pages yahoo.com and google.com and notice the difference. Yahoo has every fathomable service listed on the homepage: news, answers, mail, ads, TV, My Yahoo, Mobile, horoscopes, and what not; the search bar is almost lost in the context.
Compare that to Google's clean white background, and just the search bar visible so prominently. You just don't want to anything else but just search. Notice no ads either!
I think this focus on what the user actually wants from a web-page is the distinguishing factor in these two competitors.
Yahoo sucks.
Google does not suck.
That pretty much sums it up, really.

google...I even got a google search right next to my address bar....
I use google, but not because of it's Gmail and all the other extra features it offers.
I use it because when I go to like MSN, and search for something, when I go to google and search for the exact same thing, I get a lot more results, and what im looking for is usually near the top on google.
It just has better search results.

I've always used google, but I don't know why. Its good and everything, and it's only a matter of time before google release an online OS, but its sooo hard to get a listing, and sometimes its best to not stick with the crowd. The only reason sites like DailyMotion exist is from people who think they're too good for youtube, so surely its the same case here.
On a side note, does anyone know if the hosting is actually any good...
Just wondering...
