firefox extensions

hi folks,

i use firefox with a number of extensions, now i wonder how they are done.
searchplugins are rather simple script, but those extensions apear to be binary.
i'd be thankful for a small tutorial or some links on that topic.

btw: i already tried google.

I'm pretty sure the extensions are java / javascript, but don't quote me on that - I'm not a coder.

The .xpi files are merely renamed zip files, so you can take a look at all the code and components of your extensions if you're particularly interested in it. Download the .xpi file and rename it to .zip, and you'll be able to open it.

I really like Hacking Firefox. It's not actually about hacking FF, but mostly just making extensions and then some modifications to config files and such to make it faster. I only read the parts about making extensions though. I recommend you check it our.[/url]
