Today I was in the road to my university, and then started to think about this:
"Some people uses internet to know other people, other s to pla games, others to see porn, others to spend there free time, others to learn more things, others to earn mone...some people even use it to escape reality..."
The question is, what do ou use internet for? What is internet for you?
Estimated, most of the childs/young people from this days spend most of they´re in front of a computer.
For me? Is a way of learn...I´m starting my own PC related company this days...and I hope it will be able to support me in a few years.
What about you?
I just know that my computer and my internet especially is such a way of life for me that going offline for a couple days makes me near insane. I have to at least chat to someone or post something or play a game or just surf the web one time a day. I don't foresee either that in my life i'll ever be without the internet again. Definitely not a fad that's gonna disappear. And considering that my financial means and that i've met my boyfriend online.. no way, I need the internet,

it's the greatest encyclopedia i ever got.. 
I'm using internet for playing some Online Games (World Of Warcraft, Ultima Online etc...) and web design. I like web design more than games, coding is enjoyable for me.
And download new musics etc...

downloading the latest song and drama is my 1st proprity of using it 
, and sometime use it to search some material to doing the home work and assignment i think the question is inappropriate. sorry but i see this differently. the internet was made available for user's needs. it does not need to have concrete definition of how you use the internet. whether you use it for browsing, playing, research, library, business etc. does not matter. what's important is that they provide users the needs and resources helpful in almost every aspect of their life. anyway, i just want to share my opinion..

Sorry, but you are wrong, it was not made for the users needs, but as a project by the US Military, more specifically ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency, which later went on to become DARPA - Defense Advanced Research Research Projects Agency), as a way to communicate between thier major sources of research, CALTECH, MIT and the Department of Defense. It was then made public in (I may be mistaken on the date here) the 1960's and Tim Berners-Lee made it available to everyone by writing the original source code for the World Wide Web and making that public domain in 1994/95. As a footnote, Tim Berners-Lee is still the President and Founder of The World Wide Web Consortium (W3.org).
So the Internet as we know it was not actually meant for us, it was meant for Colleges, Universities & the Department of Defense.
This is all public knowledge if anyone cares to look it up.i see internet as an open window where i can go out whenever i get stuck in real world...its like another planet :p

Well internet is just a big special place, where I can spend my free time when I'm bored, talk to my friends, get music, see funny videos and pictures , really really good place to be

I don't use the internet for that purpose, but where would the internet be without it? Probably still just a defense communication project.i use it to meet other people, play games, porn, spend my free time, to learn more things, and escape reality... well eavry ting olmost
I use internet for many things as learn things especially in informatic, read the news only informatic and meet others people and at least playing on a website which the name is ogame.
I use the internet to meet my friends online, to read the world news and to play online games ! It is a Research tool and Porn studio.
It also my personal supplier of all things software related. I will never buy software in a store ever again.
Whether purchasing, pirating or trying, software is too easy to acquire online and more often then not, the education you can recieve for that software online is leaps and bounds beyond anything some sales rep could possibly tell you.

This dude says it all. I mean the internet is everything, you can find anything on anything if you look hard enough. Not to mention the thousands of terabytes of... um... pictures we can view...I use internet to get information the most

The internet for me is just a cheap way of chatting to people, and a quick and easy way of researching into college work without going to the library and getting no work done anyway.
Could live without it but would rather not!

yes ,the more young people have the some way in use computer.
me too,just for some older people,they just use they do little thing.The Internet is all about communication. I love using forums and sharing. That's why I joined here (Apart from the hosting, o course, that comes under sharing). I also blabber a lot at the atari community. I can't stand communities that don't post enough. It makes me angry having to wait days for a reply. Besides, larger communities can be more closely knit, with a wider range of folks. For me its a means of cheap communication, entertainment, a constantly updated encyclopedia.... and ok... maybe just a little porn....
My computer is dual monitor, and wired to two stereos and three television sets... so i can play videos, movies, music, etc anywhere in my house off of it.
Internet is intruded to my life when I was thinking it... 
I worked throught internet.
I entertained on the web..
I studied also through internet...I can't escape from it...
But Internet does help me a lot in the above 3 parts in my life. Internet is very significant to us, Hungarian students: we can apply for courses or for exams via Internet. (Not to mention we exchange our "products" on exams... but it's unofficial.) So, Internet for me means life. (Kind of. It means degree, for sure.)

The interent is a funny place where you can hack off a lot of people with no ill effects on you.
Free porn. Also, it's a great place for people to connect, the good and bad people. Especially the KKK and NAMBLA. Seriously, though, the internet is part of something called the "New Media." Internet is my life blood. I forum a lot, and would always like to keep in touch with my friends who in turn are always online too.
Well i live a double life, thus i have alot of friends and a girlfriend and so on, but i "cheat" on them with the internet! The internet is a source of entertainment and of knowledge, a way of expressing myself and to keep intouch. Thats my summary.
I use internet to communicate. I'm not "phone friendly" or talkative. So I just make up for it by being online for hours talking to random people. I also like to lpay around on forums and see other peoples opinions of things. And don't forget, learning! 
i use the internet for talking to my friend if thats by msn skype or gizmo
internet for me is mainly my work. Before it was my work it was mainly a huge source of information. Now i do not spent more time on the net than necessary (unless in my free time where i try to use the net for info and entertainment - never infotainment though which reminds me of my work too much)
Internet for me is very important since i do all my work on it.
I also love to play online games and of course to do some downloads.

I think i use almost 90% of my allowance to get internet connetion and somthing connected into it Internet are quite important to me. I use it for entertainment, play online games and finding informations the internet is mainly my life... without the internet id prob turn into a mindless zomby...... almost EVERYTHING i do apart from work and sleep and eat is on the internet... some ppl say im an adict but i liekto refer to it as an... enjoyer... lol
Due to the nature and location of my life (rather isolated on a farm in the mountains), the net is the major means of communication for me and my family. Now when Skype exist, the vocal communication goes over the net as well.
Having family / kids / grandkids in various countries, it has drastically changed our lives (as for the rest of the world).
The sharing of thoughts, pictures and video clips as well as video conference has in reality made it possible for us to live as isolated as we do and love to, without losing contact.
A "funny" little story:
A few years ago my parents were getting seriously old, living by themselves with help of persons doing physical tasks for them. I got the great idea that I would set up a video camera in our kitchen here on the farm (its rather big and there's always a lot going on), then do the same in my parents house (in the other end of Europe) and we could see each other and talk.
I set the whole thing up here, travel to my parents house, install ADSL, set up the puter and camera and connect, happily turning to my parents (app.80 & 90 years young) , my mother was smiling like a baby and my father had a complete fit, startes yelling and screaming that it was a complot and that NOW "they" could see them (which ofcourse was true) =)
Result, I had to "officially" dismount it (did keep a hidden camera running just for me to be able to check on their health in secret)...
It should be mentioned that my father at that point was a little demented, but a lesson to all us "kids" ,,,,, not everyone appriciates progress =))

in the internet you can find games, new, porn(lol) and what every you want!!!! just in a simple click
if you are looking 50 years ago, you can see how poor were people with no internet...

Frist of all, I have to admit that internet changed my life greatly.
When I was in high school in 1997, there was very little chances for me to get in touch with internet. You know, that time very few people could use on net computers. During that time, most of my focus were on study and exercise.
After I enrolled in to college in 1999, internet was coming popular into my life and soo became even more previled in common people's life. I spent lots of my time on play and have fun on the net, yet not study, because you know, facing with a fresh and interesting stuff, teenagers always wanna to have fun, but not learn. I wasted so much time on this and did not learn many useful things on that.
The third stage of my internet life was coming since my junior year of my undergraduate study till now. I came to use internet rescources to help my study and reserach on my major, such as the scholar paper data bases and internet website of foreign research institutes on my major cutting edge research. English websites help improving my english skills. I came to know many foreign websites to know different culture backgrounds, what people think, their life styles and way of behavior. More I think I came to get into the further level of internet, communicating, sharing, thinking and devoting.
That is my story of internet:P

Internet is a world for me, i can get so many things on it, such as entertainment, sport, news....etc....And also I depend the internet to hand in the assignment and get the notes of my study....I can say that almost all the things of me are on the internet...

Internet to me is a new door towards more knowledge of the world. It also allows me to communicate with more people at different edges.
I use the Internet hmmmm, as something to do in my free time I guess I would say. But it's not all just for my free time.
It's my job! my "gagne pain" (like french folks say )
but it's still a passion! it's a major communication tool for me, as i do not like talking on phone...
and, it's a "spending time machine" , as i have nothing and nothing to do in office, just like right now.... ... i just browse around the internet, waiting for lunch, and then waiting for leaving.

I can't even remember the time before i went online, how I got information, shopped, managed my life. Yes, you may call me an addict

I think I use internet mainly to browse porn although it does help me at work when I need to do some research and stuff like that. The internet is mainly for information especially bad information and resources.
You said that most of the childs/young people these days spend most of their time infront of a computer.It is very true and most of the time it is because they are addicted to pornography and video games and their parents usually know about it but they cannot stop us from it because we can hack all the security that they think they are putting.
Knowledge is power.I-net is way to be connected to whole world! For getting information...
I think internet become a lot of more then just entertainment thin. With internet I start to be interested in graphics, what already become my work.
With internet I meet with my second husband And I found a lot of friends all over the world!
So internet have changed my life a lot. To me the internet is an escape, to another world. There's so much happening all around me, sometimes its hard to accept reality. Thats where the net comes in for me. Its like I disappear into this world where I let only my closest people in. Starting to sound schizophrenic - I hope not!!

Internet for me is a super-essential thing. I do almost everything on the internet. We have a Comcast super blazing fast connection, but just in case... we have a dial-up backup modem with a netzero account (from when they were still netzero, as in free).
Can never go without internet.
Internet just is one of the most important form of communication these days. No matter how I would want to do things in my life, internet has to be a part of it.
My assignment for college have to be obtained over the internet.
My schedule gets placed on the internet.
Grades get given over the internet.
Up to date research is found in digital libraries on the internet.
Keep in touch with friends over Yahoo groups since all get to see the message then, goes much faster.
Easy to contact someone over chat on where to meet up and all.
Online gaming.
Etc.
Well the internet for is: Online games (CS: S, DOD: S and so on.), homework, make websites and a lot of porn
