FTP Question

Soulfire
I am using the default windows FTP thing (not sure what it is called) to connect to my ftp. I have all of my Phpbb files currently in the directory ftp://www.dataclan.frih.net/public_html (http://www.dataclan.frih.net)

All of my Phpbb stuff needs to be moved to ftp://www.dataclan.frih.net/public_html/forum (http://www.dataclan.frih.net/forum) from the original directory (see above).

I've tried drag & drop and copy & paste, but neither work, and I am pretty new to ftp and websites and whatnot, but I have general understanding.

Thanks,
Soulfire

I suggest you use the file manager in direct admin. This page shows you how to copy or move the files
http://www.site-helper.com/filemanager.html

In FTP you'd have to download and then re-upload though I dont use any Windows FTP so it may be different?

It's maybe better to use an ftp client like filezilla ( http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ ).

Use an FTP client as it's suggested above, then

1- FTP and download your files from the first address.

2- FTP and upload your files to the second address.

There is a better freeware simple FTP client that you may use. Unfortunately, I am now in my office and I can't remember its name. I'll post it here later if interested.

Try using WEBCEO as well as FTP it also has lots of useful tools to optimise your website etc. Its FREE at www.webceo.com the free edition is available on the left hand side of the web page. I use this all the time for FTP to for my website www.buytoletinfo.com

You may want to use the DirectAdmin FileManager for moving files within your account, as mathiaus suggested.

Apart from being loads faster than ftp for this kind of job, it also saves both your bandwidth and that of the server.

With ftp you should also be able to drag and drop files on the server, if I'm not mistaken. But as Morpheus and mathiaus pointed out, it should also be possible with the DA file manager.

No. It isn't possible with Filezilla.

As I promissed, here is the informtion regarding the FTP client that I mentioned before: It's LeechFTP. It's a great freeware, unfortunately it's discontinued and no new releases are being developed now, but I think it's still one of the best around.. and YES you can drag and drop files to and from the server Smile
You can download a free copy here:
