Hello,

Democracy.. It's not just a word, but it has a very coplicated meaning.. Many of studies have been dadicated to this word Democracy..!!!! Many people specialists & non-specialists tried & still trying to find a strict definition for it but non of these difinitions have been accepted by all.. (it's normal..as anything.. there isn't anything in our world achieve the approval of everyone !!!!! Surprised

)

BUT how about trying to find a definition of Democracy in this forum? Do you think that you could define it? Try this.. for even one time in your life.. It may work..

Now.. What will you say about Democracy..? What do you think it means in your opinion..?

For me, I'm trying to think, I'm trying to find a meaning & rules of it.. & as I find that I'll right it here in the same thread. Confused

Democracy is the power of the people. But in our modern system, Im not really sure of that, it was true in the Antiquity. I don't really know what to say...

Democracy is a word that encompasses two different goals:

1. To let every individual have a voice in affecting his/her life and the power to affect others' lives, so that s/he is not simply sunject to another person.

2. To reach a more balanced decision through the wisdom of the many, than would be achieved through a limited group which might be wiser at times (a la Plato) but could also fail dismally (group think) and would be blinded by its own interests.

There are many varieties of democracy. Here is the general structure of them.

1) Direct. People vote on every law which is passed in a society. If there is a majority (>50%) vote, then the law is passed. Otherwise, it is isn't.

2) Indirect. This is closer to what is practiced in the United States and Europe: representatives are elected by majority votes, and these representatives vote on laws in the country.

3) Mix. Some decisions made by citizens (referenda); others made by representatives.

In essence, democracy is the form of government where the will of the majority of the people is emphasized.

Besides, democracy is dead concept which almost everyone breaches. I think there is 1% democracy in this world.
