Reincarnation
I saw topics about, which animal would you like to be? and which religion you follow so I thaught to combine it.
I really don't know if there is a reincarnation but I'd like it.
If it is possible and it has to be in an animal I'd like to become an eagle or something like a hyena.
What do the others think?

No, people are not reincarnated. You have one eternal life. You can choose to spend the portion not on earth with God, or eternally seperate from God. This life we live on earth is only a small tick mark on a huge and endless timeline.
That is my belief.
P.S. - Maybe you should add a "No, I don't believe in reincarnation" option just to get a better poll result.

But God isn't THAT bad to let us go to hell, right?

He is if you don't believe in Him. That's just the rule, unfortunately. I want everyone to go to Heaven.
I have to agree with Soulfire on this one, we are only given 1 life to live and if we mess it up we have to pay the price. 1 life, 1 soul...that's all ya get.
I do believe in reincarnation into a new person
well I don't know about reancarnation but I think that when you die you either go to heaven or hell thats it one life.
but I really wish for reincarnation I would love to be a bird cause I love flying.

If reincarnation were for real I'd like to come back as a pigeon so I could fly by and dump on all the people who have dumped on me, or at least ruin the new wax job on thier cars

Hey, where's the "no, I don't believe in it" ?
When you die, it's simple. You are with God, or apart from him. If you are with Him, you are in heaven. And being apart from him, an eternal life without him, is what is called hell.
You have one life, so don't go around thinking you can waste it and get another for free to make up for whatever wrong you did in this one. This is a very "new age" way of seeing life, and by believing it you stand in a position where you may never take anything seriously.

I intend to re-incarnate myself without ever being dead, from a certain point of view.
Yeah, no free/spare lives here - you've 1 life to live, live it well.
Well I beleive, you were made a sperm and a egg, and you, a big carbon/nitrogen waste sack, will just end up non functioning and decomposing, no afterlife no nothing, your body will be recycled back into the world, lights out thats it.
I don't believe in reincarnation, but I would hope it exists.

You chose your destiny. If you go around killing people do you think you are going to go to heaven? You don't have to be a goodie two shoes you just have to show you have repentance for what you have done.
reincarnation is built on a foundation of bad math. Most people cling to it to justify illicit behavior "oh, I'll work on that my next life, I'll just bang this drunk chic tonight"
Within the reincarnation mindset.. if you're not willing to take responsibility for your actions this time, and form the habit of not bothering, what in the world makes you think you'll be any more inclined with the mere passage of time?

Both, Christianity hell and reincarnation have same basis, fear. Hell is somewhere after death (no one is not coming back), reincarnation is consequence of bad thinks and bad doings and it will arise in next life. After many years of spiritual life I find out advaita. Advaita (how I understand) say: "If anything like hall or reincarnation exist you cannot change it, isn't it? Why in that case worry about it?"
Do good, be good, see good. Find out who you are really, and be happy (now, in this life). Future is very uncertain and you cannot do anything to know what happens.
Consequently, I need one more button in pool - Who care?

I believe fully in reincarnation.. my gramma who raised me passed away on June 17, 2004.. I got pregnant on June 21, 04.. and my son reminds me of my gramma in every way possible. I am not christian at all.. in fact, my family practices Wicca. I have read a lot about the christian religion and most of my friends are christian. I don't respect a religion that states "this is the only way to live and if you live any other way, you are going to hell". Or a religion that says that if you eat meat on Friday.. you will burn in hell. LOL Have any of you ever read the bible? I mean really.. they say a woman who has her period must sit in a pool of water for seven days. Christianity is not "made" for life today. And I believe that christianity is being disproved through science and technology. There are so many older religions in the world.. and at least those other older religions didn't go through towns and burn people who didn't believe. That's as bad as burning someone who is a witch...
In my opinion, you're not there for a vast period of time, then you're there for a small period of time, and then again you're not there for the rest of time.
But of course some people need to have hope for something better, somewhere, sometime ...

i believe in reincarnation into another person. maybe something else with a soul..but so far i'm not sure how to define that (i'm pretty sure my dog has one. but i can't describe it as if it were the same as a humans. i don't know). but for all of those kids who believe in a heaven, i believe that there is an eternal resting place, but you only reside there after having learned all of your "lessons" and that the meaning of life is to learn that lesson (but it's not like you're supposed to know what it is. you just live the course you choose).

I can see how you're specifically interested in that last sentence.
I'd love to hear your thought process behind Christianity is not "made" for life today. Fell free to message me, or start another thread if you want since its not really relating to the recincarnation thing. But then again nothing I have said to this point is either.
Ok, on topic. I personally don't believe in reincarnation. But I will say that the thoughts behind it, at least what I understand the thoughts behind it to be, makes more sense to more than God sending someone to hell because they didn't say a prayer. It actually takes into account how you lived. If you made something good with your life, showed other people love, took care of the earth, you get rewarded by being incarnated(is that the right word) as something better. If you treat others like dirt you get knocked down a notch or two.

This one is a tricky one. Personally I believe that there is a soul residing inside every living thing, and that this soul is made up of energy. I believe that when we die our soul goes back to the large collection of energy from whence it came (ha I used whence in a sentence - take that 3rd grade). I don't really know where this vast amount of energy is. But since we are going back to it and we came from it originally, I believe we can depart from there again. I really can't say for sure that you become a certain animal or human based on how good you were in your previous life. However, I sure would like to...unless I've been doing something bad recently, in which case I would like to be a penguin.

I would love to be a penguin if i did something good. Swim around, eat, avoid killer whales, hang out with other penguins. Sounds alot better than bills, gas prices, certain people, work, school, etc. etc. Espically if you end up as a penguin at one of those huge zoos that believe in making the animals areas just like thier original habitat. Foods pretty much handed to you and no killer whales. Sounds like a good life to me.

Do you purposefully mean to imply that our own human wills are stronger than God's will or work on the cross, or is that just a chunk of the belief structure of eternal torment that you haven't yet wrestled with?
Our will is not stronger than God's. But the decision is still ours. We can embrace his will, or not.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
His work on the cross was for all, but we need to receive it to have eternal life.

I can't tell if you've rejected the idea that its God's will to bring all of the world to himself, or if you reject the idea that God is all powerful, or if you've just not gotten to the point of questioning what you've been taught about Eternal Torment in Hell for unbelievers.
A little background so you can better understand the above paragraph, which is paraphrased from "The Inescapable Love of God" by Thomas Talbott, although I don't think it orginates with him. Theres three basic statements, all of which someone can find, on at least some level, support for in the bible, although only two can be correct.
1. Its God's will that everyone be "saved";
2. God has the power to achieve his will;
3. There are some people who will not be "saved", and thefore God will either sentence them to eternity in hell, or will make them merely cease to exist.
i dont believe in reincarnation in any way, shape or form. you should add a "No" option to your poll to get a true opinion from everyone!
Everything happens like in that movie aeon flux. where people are cloned to new persons The cloning lasts until 25th century when we will be free. After that making love is sth diffrent:D

I don't believe in reincarnation, or in heaven or hell our the Kingdom of God...
I think that when you're dead, you're really dead: your brain activity stops. Many believers will say that we have a soul, but I think "soul" is a generic term for things like character, intuïtion, "the thing that speaks through our brains",... In my opinion, everything called "soul" is really just in our brains.
I think reincarnation and stories about an after-life are made up by men so that they could die peacefully.

Reincarnation makes more sense to me than a heaven or hell. And since I prefer not to leave the this world with the question 'now what??' or 'ok, so now I'm nothing' in my head, until I find a better explaination I am sticking with reincarnation

People can continue to believe for some odd reason that they will be turned into an animal after death. Right...the thought of myself as one is creepy. I would choose to live in Heaven for eternity anyday.
I would like to know how anyone can explain why you would turn into an animal. There are no philosophers who have explained this, so there is no reason to believe it. When a person dies, someone or something has to place their soul somewhere.
In closing, I tell you that it is ignorant to believe this and the only way anyone can come back to Earth after death is to go to Hell. After all, you would be in the Earth...

I definetly wouldn't call it ignorant, its not what I believe is the truth, its faith in a diferent belief. Just like believing in a virgin giving birth to something that is 100% human and 100% god, or a God at all when there is no factual data to prove or disprove he/she/it exists. Its all about faith.
I believe in reincarnation. I do..I do
"Energy cannot be created nor destroyed. It can only be changed from one form to another"A. Einstein(The greatest scientist in the world)
He was soooo close to proving reincarnation and then he died.
Too bad.Otherwise this discussion would be non existent.

a part of me really wants to believe there's reincarnation. it's an amazing concept which makes people more comfortable about dying. and also i guess makes people not to try to do anything bad. being reincarnated by another person or maybe an animal, which i would probabaly want to be a dog, because dogs are cute and fuzzy and they get all the girls. haha.
but there is another part of me that doesn't think there is such thing as reincarnation. i mean we are born we live and we die. what happens when we die? we are burned to ashes or burried underground. what happes to our souls? what is a soul? is there realy a soul? i think we just have minds able to think a lot better than most other creatures, making us think we have souls. i think after we die we just decay and get absorbed into the ground or we have our ashes stored in a vase or thrown at some special place we hope will attatch spirits to but instead the ashes land on dirt and then get absorbed into the ground.
just my thoughts on reincarnation
o there's thing that kinda freaks me out about reincarnatio. anyone see that new horror film from Japan called Reincarnation. some trippy stuff. it's got a great story on reincarnation (obviously) and the consequences of doing something bad in your lifetime.

You're right, it is about faith and I, along with about 67,259,768 Americans in 2004(http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/0403934.htm), have faith that God is not just a fable and that you are a weaker person for having no faith. Just because you can't see Him in a human form you can see Him in other ways that are all around you. And if you did have faith, which you don't, you would read the bible and see that the Virgin Mary was indeed a virgin and did give birth to God in the human form through the Holy Spirit to save our sins on a cross. And not matter what you say, no matter how many times you say it, and no matter how much you denie the truth it is still there. You just can't see it and unless you accept God into your life, for he is all mericful and powerful, you will never see it.

Sure, Einstein was a great scientist but you are wrong to believe that he was trying to prove reincarnation to be true. In fact, he wasn't even on the topic of change in humanity. He was speaking of energy, like heat and light.

Wow. You might want to re-read what I posted. No where in there did I say anything regarding to what you have attributed to me.
In the future you might want to think about having a discussion with someone before you label them a "weaker person" from jumping to your own distorted conclusions.

many of the guys here belive that reincarnation doesnt exists or it is not real.. but I had to ask you one thing.. what is your explanation.. when some kids.. who just started to talk... talking about the life he/she had before.. and when you really investigate on it.. you find that.. that person really lived.. and died... and all the things that.. the kid.. said was facts.. and ... I need good explanation.. don't tell me it is just co incidence or it is just stupid.. or anything like that.. ....
Trust me there is a whole bunch of things that no human can explains.. and no modern science can help him... and ... all the things we think we know.. about this universe... is not even a small bite from the secrets of universe...
MOST OF THE TIME; TRUTH BECOME STUPID BECAUSE WE CAN'T PROVE IT WITH MATERIAL FACTS...

oh man, I couldn't agree more
You left out Remanifestation
I believe two things:
If god wants to reincarnate someone, by george hes ganna do it!
secondly, I believe that memories are sometimes remanifested in your decendants, this is to say some important events or unfinished buisness are "tranfered" to those who can finish them for you. This is my explination for the memories people claim to have from "past lives"

could you explain the difference between reincaration and remanifestation as you know them to be?
And I would have to agree that if god wants to reincarnate someone then he's gonna do it.
Your second point is like carl jung's theory of the collective sub(or maybe un)conscious, which talks about stuff like shared memories. He used a fear of the dark as a case study. He said the main reason kids have a fear of the dark is because of that collective subconcoicous. Our ancestors (way back like BC times) needed the fear of the dark, because thats where things that would kill them come from. Not sure I agree, but I think it adds an interesting thought about reincarnation/remanifestation.

there's not such thing as reincarnation. you're unique. you are you only once. you have only one life. i think that the guy who started the post (i forgot his name) needed an option of "no, i don't believe" to have a more accurate result, as soulfire says.
i don't belive reincarnation...Because your mind can't change if it change you can't be you....So i belive Islam and Islam says no need to reincarnation God can create new persons, animals etc...
Remanifestation is a word i use to describe the abilities/energies/personality traits that appear to be passed down generation to generation. It is not a philisophicaly recognized term, as far as i know im the only one that uses it. Yes it is similar to the view of a collective conscious, but it is more along the lines of defining life and thought as forms of energy, and that some of that energy that makes you who you are is passed down to the next generation, sometimes skipping generations entirely.
I fully believe that something besides our genetic coding is passed down generation to generation. Having memories that never happened to me is my proof to myself of that.
There is a "no" answer missing in your poll
).
I think that a death is end of an individual. No reborn and no afterlife for that one particular soul is possible. (In general. Reincarnation could be probably achieved with advanced enough technology - braintaping etc.)
I think that a death is end of an individual. No reborn and no afterlife for that one particular soul is possible. (In general. Reincarnation could be probably achieved with advanced enough technology - braintaping etc.)
assuming life is a form of energy however, law of energy conservation basicaly states that there has to be an afterlife. That is assuming that the thoughts and feelings we experiance (that we cant duplicate.. life) There has to be an afterlife based on those facts. If you look into Einstiens theories more you'll notice a lot of his studies went around the existance of an afterlife. He himself believed that if ever humans could use 100% of their brains we would become a form of energy and no longer have use for a body.
I dont believe reincarnation. Where is the "no" alternative?
May be NO option should be added;) Because I don't believe reincarnation..

Gonzo, you blithely turned an entire culture on it's head without having the slightest idea that you did so. Hinduism and Buddhism are based on the FEAR OF REINCARNATION. The "first noble truth of Buddhism", is that all life is suffering. From their point of view we live in one of the planes of Hell where we are doomed to suffer until we can escape. But the Hellions think that the idea of coming back here over and over sounds like a *great* idea. From a Buddhist/Hindu point of view, you are a young soul that must be even more deeply imersed in the suffering and delusion of an even more intense and deeper layer of Hell before you will become sickened by it and begin striving desperately to escape.
Reincarnation goes hand in hand with a loving God. If reincarnation didn't exist who would make it into Heaven? Maybe one in a hundred. If reincarnation doesn't exist then why are we here? We are here presumably to learn something, but most people learn nothing of value in the course of their lives. It takes huge numbers of lifetimes for young toddler souls like Gonzo to realize that life outside Heaven sucks, just as it takes time for toddlers to realize that playing in a mud puddle really isn't all that great.
yeah i know that much... perfect understanding allows you to escape right? according to that religion anyway... I recall something about making yourself more like god
