8 versions for Windows Vista

Locklear
Yes, there are some changes (new brands) on the list for vista versions

So, it's a simple list:

Windows Starter 2007
Windows Vista Enterprise
Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista ultimate
Windows Vista Business
Windows Vista Home Basic N
Windows Vista Business N

The N versions (the new versions) comes without WMP, it's seems that are the european versions.

I don't have more info.

Too many versions is a bad idea for Microsoft and it might be overwhelming for consumers. There should just be 1 version IMO, that brings together the best of all the other versions. For Windows XP, I don't see why there were two editions, for XP Professional you had to pay an extra hundred bucks or so for a couple of features that should have been included regardless of version. Oh well, it's their problem. Does anyone know an expected release date for Vista?

I wonder how much Ultimate is going to cost. That's going to be the version to get as it includes everything from all of the other versions.

@Locklear: The article should be in [quote] tags and the source without [code]-tags...Razz but I only removed the [ code ] [ /code ] thing, as the article isn't very long.. Very Happy

Does anyone know when windows vista is coming out? Regardless I'm finding it harder and harder to justify buying a PC when apple is clearly growing far superior in every way. Having a linux based operating system is really a good step for Windows though.. I'll still get vista just to see how much different/better/worse it is.

So many versions!! It's tough to decide which one to go for. I think the enterprise edition will be very good!

But the thing is... they're all going to be the same except for one or two very minor details. So why make all these versions? Just so they can say they have them... so the consumer believes that they have a version made for THEM... specific to their needs. So they can charge more for certain versions.

What's the diff between xp home and xp professional? well... for the average consumer.. not much.

I wonder if changing basic to ultimate will be as easy and changing home to pro.. all you had to do for that was change some 0's to 1's

I agree with you here to an extent - several versions do confise the market, but this could potentiall be Microsoft's intention. If people are unsure what features they need, they might go out and buy the top-of-the-line (most expensive) version just to be sure. It also offers a heirarchy by price, so people who have a restricted budget can buy an appropriate version.

I can understand a "Home" and "Pro" version structure, but this is a bit too far.

Technically, there are only 6 different versions since the "N" versions will only be sold in Europe in place of the other versions that come with Windows Media Player / Windows Movie Maker. It's really pretty pointless, but this was the EU's fault, not Microsoft's. But that's another argument.
