Quote:

McDonald's faces at least three lawsuits claiming it misled the public after it acknowledged last week that milk and wheat ingredients are used to flavour its fries.

One claimant, Debra Moffatt, is seeking unspecified damages in a lawsuit filed in Chicago. Her lawyer, Thomas Pakenas, said his client has coeliac disease, which causes gastrointestinal symptoms set off by eating gluten, a protein found in wheat.

Jack Daly, a McDonald's senior vice president, said in a statement the company had not yet reviewed the case and is testing its fries for gluten through a food allergy research programme.

I thought it was common knowledge that McDonald's was, in more ways than one, generally not good for you, in any way. so wtf are people doing eating that crap and getting surprised when it makes them sick. Yeah, yeah they weren't told there was wheat and milk in their friggin chips. But chances are they still would have bought them regardless.

I don't know what's the Colonel's Secret Recipe - it probably has little sprinkles of crack and cow pubes!! - i know it's bad for me but I still go to KFC every now and then knowing i won't sue them when it finally kills me. There is a reason its called junk food. You can't expect good health from unhealthy food!

Yes, but then who'd have thought that the coffee would be hot?

i hope you are being sarcastic...

(I'm not exactly sure about the exact facts about this but here goes)

So a lady bought coffee and spilled it on herself and it "burned" her, she sued McDonalds or Starbucks (don't know which), saying that their coffee was too hot, and won 4 million dollars. As a result, all coffee became colder. Now, a little kid and his mother were walking in downtown Chicago. Some people were installing Windows on a skyscraper (or something) and a pane of glass fell, cut the child's mother straight in half while the kid was still holding her hand. The father sued and was only able to win 500,000. (I think it was less, maybe 200,000)

I dunno about everyone else, but I think that is injustice at it's best.

Well i don`t know about you, but i don`t think that money can compensate the loss of a loved one, be it 200,000 or 4 milion it still woudn't fill that void. One thing i can say about crackdonalds is that here in Romania they advertise that all of there products are healthy and good for you Neutral

right, like i`m gonna go now and eat there. But the advertisement works and they have lots of costumers, which probably aren`t aware of how bad fast (junk) food is for you.
SunburnedCactus
Just for clarity - Yes I was joking.

I agree with you raver, btw what part of Romania are you from. My parents are from Bucharest Very Happy ce faci

Yah I know you were joking cactus, I didn't mean for my post to be an attack or something in any way. Wink

Well what if you were lactose intolerant and got extremely sick when you had anything with lactose in it? If McDonald's wasn't telling the people the thing in their food, it could make them *VERY* sick.

I'm sure your mind would be completely opposite if you were a person affected by it.

Some people are extremely allergic to wheat, it's a common allergy. Just like many people are allergic to peanuts, it's the equivalent of selling soft drinks that contain peanut oils in them, and not bothering to list it in the ingredients. (Not that that would be legal, but the idea is made).

I doubt people with extreme allergies are just whining for the hell of it.

In Australia McDonalds burgers come with a wrapping saying 100% Australian Beef. It's not true. It's not 100% Australian, or 100% Beef. They get away with it because it's a trademark. I think it's dishonest.

What justification do you have for these claims? Your own personal ASSumption, or actual evidence?

It's in Australia, thus is Australian. 100%, even. As for the beef part, innocent until proven guilty.

Anyway, say, for the sake of the argument the beef contained, say, 2% cabbage. They could still call it 100% Australian beef because it is 100% Australian (see above) and it is beef. It does not say 100% beef, it only implies it. Also, the 98% beef in the patti is still 100% beef, so it's a 100% beef and a bit of cabbage.

The moral to this story? Never trust ads.

Who knows what coca-cola's secret chemical x is anyway?
They might be putting in asbestos and lead for all you know.
It is one hell of a dangerous drink.
McDonalds is no better.
Junk food is a strict no-no from me
It is as good as eating toxic waste
These freaks just want to make more bucks, so they'd do anything for you to buy it

If I were lactose intelerant, I would probably make sure I knew what I was eating. (And I mean, alot of mash potatoe has milk added to it - when we make chips we add a bit of milk... I don't know about the wheat, but yea..)

Besides which, you'd have to realise that Macca's isn't eaxactly the fresh food outlet, and the kind of place that would add this and that o their produce. It's fast food - it's junk food.

In Australia, the newschannels run a special on the actual ingrediants in fast food from various outlets at least once a fortnight. And I'm not being sarcastic... (i.e. on ACC/Today Tonight).

So yes, it's probably based on actual evidence...

And my uncle runs a Macca's in Dandenong or something, and he was telling me the same thing... he doesn't know if it's 100% australian beef, but they do add vegies/etc to the patties. (Basically the 90% or what-ever beef is 100% Australian - supposedly).

And in OZ, we're hyper-sensitive to supporting our economy through buying/supporting Australian produce. So it wouldn't be hard to find some expose somewhere on wether the meat's Australian.

I knew the fries were not just taters and salt. I found the McD's recipe years ago somewhere.
Oh, and Blackheart....Good name. I'm a magician and go by the name Blackhart. lol

Yea - it has a nice ring to it. Mine's drawn more from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and a little group I run called the Blackhearts, for girls around my age from around my area.

(Blackheart Legion Against Conformity, Killing, Hurt, Ego, Ailment, Rape and Tyranny in society - a bit kitch/forced I guess, but oh well).

Wow man, calm down.
Biodiesel
French Fries:
Potatoes, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural flavor (beef, wheat and dairy sources), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (to preserve natural color). Cooked in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (may contain partially hydrogenated soybean oil and/or partially hydrogenated corn oil and/or partially hydrogenated canola oil and/or cottonseed oil and/or sunflower oil and/or corn oil). Contains derivatives of wheat and dairy.

If anyone can disprove this and you live in the US, I would recommend it. Non-compliance with FDA regulation can lead to all sorts of mischief.

The partially hydrogenated vegetable oil is what I would worry about. The stuff is a raw nasty chemical; a long hydrocarbon chain (I believe, any Chemists feel free to correct me on that) that just kind of sits in you body and chills out. That is to say, YOU become partially hydrogenated when you eat hydrogenated food. I personally, am adverse to becoming personally hydrogenated, and thus stay away from that crap and a number of other foods/poisons.

McDonalds lied?!?! Well there goes my faith in human nature, or at least in McDonalds. Does this really come as a surpise to anyone that a giant fast-food chain (emphasis on "fast-food") would lie to help sell thier product? If anyone out there actually thinks they are telling the truth, you may have a bigger problem than the lactose intolerant people out there who can't eat at McDonalds. To hit on another point, aren't we helping to advertise them and sell thier crap by even discussing them in this forum? Many will say they don't eat there, but when thier hungry, and nobody is looking....well you can figure out the rest.

Fast-food is not good for you, if you think it is....keep eating it, your only killing yourself.

That's crazy. A burn vs. a death. The death is more important.
decard cain
yeah your right heady233 the poor woman was sliced in two, while some lady gets burned by hot coffee and gets more money?
what is this world coming to.
personally, if i want some chips or a milkshake or anything else, i'd just go to a regualr chip shop or somewhere they sell drinks. Mcdonalds has been lying for a long time, they chop down rainforest for farmland and oh dear, they've broken the nutrient cycle, so theres hardly anything for growing crops anymore, so more forest gets chopped down and the planets getting wrecked
