| Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria and pop superstar Queen Latifah will be the coaches at the NBA Celebrity Game, which will be held at 6 tonight at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
The game will be televised on ESPN, with Mark Jones providing the play-by-play. "Any time you've got a desperate housewife on the sideline ... it's going to be fun," Jones said. Jones said he wasn't sure which pop icons will strut their stuff tonight. "Any time you see it's the All-Star weekend, it's such a blur drawing that line now between the hip-hop generation and basketball," Jones said. "It's almost kind of become one big conglomerate. "And to see guys like Nelly on the basketball court trying to play. Ice Cube is supposed to be showing up, and guys who were maybe frustrated point guards and shooting guards showing up trying to do their things. It's fun to call." Stackhouse likes Terry Mavs guard Jerry Stackhouse believes teammate Jason Terry will win the Footlocker Three-Point Shootout on Saturday. But Stackhouse said Terry is already giving himself an excuse if he doesn't win. "I like JT, but he's already setting himself up in case he don't win," Stackhouse said, laughing. "He said he's got something wrong with his toe." Dirk Nowitzki, Ray Allen, Raja Bell, Chauncey Billups and Quentin Richardson are the other contestants in the Three-Point Shootout. Shaq happy to be here This is the 13th time Shaquille O'Neal has been chosen to play in the All-Star Game. And he's delighted that 2,192,542 fans voted for him as starter for the second straight year. "I'm just glad that the fans feel that I'm still cool enough to go there," O'Neal said. "I know there's going to be one day where they're probably going to vote somebody over me. "It happens, because it happened to Patrick Ewing when I came in the league." Playas Ball The premiere of Playas Ball was held Thursday in Houston. The movie centers around a basketball player who is about to achieve stardom, but instead becomes entangled in a sex scandal. W.A.R. Entertainment, a production company owned by Detroit Pistons forward Dale Davis, produced this movie, which is slated to be shown today on a limited number of screens throughout the country. Death saddens "Too Tall" Ed "Too Tall" Jones was sad to hear that former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Ernie Stautner died Thursday at a nursing home in Colorado. Jones received the news while he was at the NBA All-Star media hotel in Houston. He said he is scheduled to be a pallbearer at Stautner's funeral on Monday. "If you can't get along with Ernie, you can't get along with anybody," Jones said. "He would take us on fishing trips so we could bond together, and I'm sure that made us a better team." Jones, who played under Stautner from 1974-78 and 1980-89, said it was the best experience of his life. "He was just a good person and he will be missed; just to be around to hear some of his stories on how he prepared us on Monday to get us ready for the game. "He was with me from Day 1, and I'm sad by his loss. He meant everything to me in my professional career." Briefly Charlotte forward Emeka Okafor and Orlando guard Jameer Nelson were supposed to play for the Sophomore team tonight, but they will not play because of injuries. Houston Rockets center Yao Ming was the leading All-Star vote-getter for the second consecutive year. Yao collected 2,558,278 last year, the most ever, and generated 2,342,738 votes this year.
