Journalist stoned for not wearing a head-scarf
Sunday, February 12 2006 @ 09:42 PM Eastern Standard Time
Aliye Cetinkaya, a journalist from the Turkish daily Sabah newspaper, who was reporting on the recent protests over the offensive caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, was stoned in Konya for reasons demonstrators said were provocative – as she did not cover her head. Cetinkaya was taken away by male colleagues after stones hit her head and shoulders. The female journalist was attacked for being ‘sexually provocative’ for not wearing a head scarf at the demonstration organised by the Peoples Education Research and Support Group in Konya (He-Da-Der) and entitled ‘Loyalty to the Prophet’. |
Perhaps if the journalists quit covering these rediculous riots over the cartoons, this wouldn't happen and the whole situation would blow over. But nooo, the media has to keep feeding the fire, to the point it burns thier own hand.
Some people never learn.
Do you see what Islam does?
I really wish people would end the riots and whatnot. You don't see us Christians going crazy over loljesus.com, a website that makes fun of Jesus.
Every religion has been made fun of. I can't believe they can't take a joke. P eople need to follow some of the words of Carlos Mencia. People need to loosen up, stop political correctness, and take a joke. Everyone makes fun of your groups at one point or another and people need to learn to take it and move on with their lives.
*provokes Christian riots*
Actually christians throughout history have freaked out over numerous things..... religion is a touchy subject for most people it seems.
Religion comes in the door, and common sense flies out the window....
Who said life wasn't amusing?
Yes, that's right. I'm sure everyone here has learnt of the Spanish Inquisition. But, of course, the world is now a much more rational place. That still gives no excuse to stoning a women for not wearing a scarf...
u people dint understand the whole point ,
The girl was hit by stone , here people are beaten to death if they commit adultery ,
this is the way they want the whole world to live , even if there was no cartoon , they would find something else ,
they only just want the whole world to follow thier religion , and live like they do
yeah it doesn't make much sense to me why you would stone someone because they left their scarf at home. but then, who are we to judge other people's cultures.

Surprisingly, I have to agree.
Mostly I just think if I were over there again, I would at least make some vain attempt to respect the area's customs/beliefs. (Ie wear a head-scarf).

yeah it doesn't make much sense to me why we might arrest a woman just for leaving her top at home... or why we might wolf-whistle and harrass a woman for leaving her pants at home...
Hair holds more meaning over there than us - for a woman to expose her hair there would be like a woman exposing her breasts over here. And ontop of that, sex has not become as "socially acceptable" over there, either.

They are crazy, and live in the middle ages.
There are many cultural/religious conditions in other countries that might be offensive or strange to Americans. Ultimately, if you visit those countries, then you should observe their customs, whether you agree with them or not. If you choose not to observe their customs then don't go there or don't come crying about it.

Please. It is not that long since white clad clanners in funny hats lynched "niggers" in the US just for them being black. Ignorance is not correlated to a specific religion. It is inherent in all religion.

Over cartoons? You missed the point I see.
no . i did not miss anything
cartoon event was one of the most disgusting thing.
we only saw how can some people be arrogant.
muslims -over 1 billion people- protested normally.
-only a few unwanted things occured -
Is Konya somewhere in Turkey? It wasn't clear in the article.

Yes. You missed the point.
Protesting at all over cartoons is pathetic and childish (muslimish??) at best. There's plenty of other things worth protesting. You've got your priorities all ****ed up if you think cartoons are worth protesting something, especially on that scale.

To kill someone through stoning is cruel, slow, and painful. By the electric chair is quick and relatively painless. And the electric chair is slowly being phased out by lethal injection - which is quick and painless.
