Customizing a wikimedia program?

I wondered if you could help me customizing my wikimedia. I'd like to know if it is possible to modify the overall look of it and in which measure, as well as if modifying the functions is possible or not...

Is wikimedia part of Wikipedia and it is your own contributions, or is it a specific layout that resembles the enviornment found on wikipedia.org?

Wikimedia is a free program available on the Internet. Actually, Wikipedia uses the same software, but I want to use the program for another purpose on my website. The base skin and fuctions are the same, though.
