Problems With Cron Jobs

smokey4life
For some reason my cron jobs aren't running and i cant figure out why here's what i currently have

Code:
0,15,30,45 * * * *   http://www.runesource.frih.net/arcane-empires/hourly_maint.php?server_passwd=mypass > /dev/null

I have also tried
Code:
0 0,8,16 * * * /usr/bin/lynx -dump http://localhost/quantum/daily_maint.php?server_passwd=password > /dev/null
But neither of them run. Is the servers syntax different being so that i cannot use the "/usr/bin/lynx -dump" if so that is why i tried the first one i mentioned above and still nothing. Then again could it be the "/dev/null" ?

Code:
0,15,30,45 * * * *   http://www.runesource.frih.net/arcane-empires/hourly_maint.php?server_passwd=mypass > /dev/null

That should be:

Code:
0,15,30,45 * * * *   /usr/bin/php -q /home/[username]/domains/runesource.frih.net/hourly_maint.php?server_passwd=mypass > /dev/null

if that doesn't work, try:
Code:
0,15,30,45 * * * *   /usr/local/bin/php -q /home/[username]/domains/runesource.frih.net/hourly_maint.php?server_passwd=mypass > /dev/null

I'm not sure how DirectAdmin organises the web files, so that assumes that the file is located at /home/[username]/domains/runesource.frih.net/hourly_maint.php.

Your method of using /usr/bin/lynx basically calls the 'lynx' web browser to download the page. The method I posted about passes your script straight to PHP (a lot better for the server load).

The thing with http://localhost/ won't work as the FriHost server is a shared server.

Ok thanks again for your help, so basically i want to point it to the directory root and not the web link. Not used to it that way Wink but ok thanks again and ill give it a try right now and see what happens.

Ok, well i tried boths ways you told me to do it and every variation of the directory structure and still cant get my maints to run. I must be setting the path to the file wrong somehow cause i used to have my crons running fine on my old host. Also there i pointed it with the http:// link i showed on my first post. Im on server2 Direct Admin so anyone have any ideas what im doing wrong?
