Chennai: Anti-virus technology Rudra, launched by city-based Sanrasoft, will protect PC users against the blackworm virus 'Kamasutra.' Kamasutra lured users with messages of sexual content, destroying files on unprotected PCs. The virus had already affected over five lakh PCs world-wide, a release here said today. The virus-hit attachment, if opened, copied itself across shared networks and sent itself to e-mail addresses on PCs before commencing to destroy all files on the third day of the particular month. 'Kamasutra virus uses the social engineering concept and tricks users to click on executable files. Even if a user is lured, Rudra will not permit execution of this virus. It identifies the malicious intention of this code, removing the registry entry and the relevant executable commands it triggers. Rudra ensured complete protection by flagging all 'non-auto run exe's' as well. On a Rudra protected system, the virus would be identified and removed in the 'unknown' state, the release said. Sanrasoft was in the final stages of rolling out a Rudra-enabled product, the beta version of which would be available to the public for free evaluation in mid-February. |
