Terror. Terrorism. They are one in the same, and reasons for one are also reasons for the other. We have started a war of those subjects, those two things that have spawned an armed war and killed over a thousand American troops in the country of Iraq. But, why? Has anybody actually given this subject some serious thought? I don’t think they have, even the opposition to the war. We cannot win this War on Terror, because, there is no war to fight. Terrorism is not some organization. It is not something that can be physically destroyed. It is an idea and until somebody realizes that you cannot destroy an idea, only its followers, we will find that we will not win this war, because it cannot be fought in the first place. Now, the people who launched this war can’t possibly be so stupid that they don’t realize the impossibility to win. So there must be an ulterior motive.
Could it be…racism? Could it be that we are the cause of this terrorism ourselves? Could it be…both? Because of racism we have convinced ourselves that terrorism only comes from the Middle East, wearing a Middle Eastern face. Not a white person in control of a large company, ripping it’s workers out of their salaries, just so the fat cats up top can keep more for themselves. Not that because of that reason, millions of people are left jobless, all because of the selfishness of their employer? Or are we the cause of this problem?
We go in as liberators to a country that does need liberation. But Iraq had nothing to do with Al Qaeda, and we knew it. Or at least the people up top knew it. They had WMDs that were going to be used against the United States itself. Why, we even knew where they were. So, send in investigators that find nothing because there is nothing to be found. No weapons. So we invade, anyway. And the people there were happy, until we pretty much took over and told them how their government was going to be and how to write their constitution.
We oppressed as much as Saddam, we killed innocent people in bombings of houses, and we even bombed one of their cities full of INNOCENT PEOPLE. And now, maybe if we stop carpet bombing them while telling them that we want to help, it might achieve something.
Lesson of the Day: WE are the cause of this problem, and the solution is very simple. If you don’t want someone to hate you enough to kill your people, then don’t give them a reason. And we have given them every reason, on a silver platter.
American Foriegn Policy has created most of the terrorist related problems that they now face. Look at the history of American Government interference in foriegn countries and you can see why some people do not like America.
What I find a little hypocritical is that in the past the American Government were often great supporters of those they later condemn.
Interesting how America or the US or the USA is always mentioned with terrorism. Ireland, a small republic, has great diplomatic relations with everywhere, and now including the majority of Northern Ireland. Only international news here is the IRA and St. Patricks's Day Parade (March 17th)
First let's define terrorism. Terrorism is "the calculated use of violence (or threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimindation or coercion or instilling fear".
So the war on Terrorism, while impossible to fight against the idea, is really a war on terrorists, those people or organizations that would attack innocent civilians in order to coerce or intimidate a government.
The President has stated that we as a nation would go after those who commit acts of terrorism and those groups and nations that support terrorism and terrorists.
Iraq did have dealing with Al-Qaeda and with other terrorist groups. Saddam authorized payments to the families of homicide bombers who attacked Israel. Iraq had training facilities on how to take over airliners.
Iraq did have WMDs. There is a book by one of his former Generals who was involved in moving them out of the country and into Syria. Check it out it's called "Saddam's Secrets: How an Iraqi General Defied And Survived Saddam Hussein" and includes this in the review "Former Iraqi General Sada delivers a riveting inside account of Saddam Hussein's tyranny, including confirmation of the existence and hiding of weapons of mass destruction."
The Iraqi people were not happy before we liberated them, they just had no way of expressing their displeasure without getting killed for it. I personally have heard from returning troops how the Iraqi general populace are pleased at our efforts over there.
Are you saying Saddam's rape rooms and people shredders were a welcome part of daily life?
We are not carpet bombing Iraq and never have. Carpet bombing is WWII technology. And while mistakes have been made, most attacks were successfully completed with precision.
Racism is not the cause of the War on Terror, it is the fact of who commits the most terrorist acts (as defined above).

Firstly I am a Christian, not a Moslem.
Secondly, you have not addressed my statement that America has brought much of this on themselves.
For example Indonesia.
The American Government through the CIA, and the Australian Government throught ASIO both financialy and militarily supported Soeharto's military takeover of Indonesia in the 60's due to their fear of comunism. The communist party was becoming quite strong here and the then president Sukarno was sympathetic to them, therefore had to go.
The result of this takeover was the murder of well over 500,000 people ,their crime, members or suspected members of the communist party.
Is it any wonder this sort of interference in soveriegn countries affairs creates radical opposition. The fact that most Indonesians are Moslem leads to their labeling as Moslem terrorists.
I am not a supporter of terrorists. I will shoot their arguements for terrorism down any time I can.
But, don't let America play the offended innocent. They are not.
And by the way, have you forgotten the Christian Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition?

I've already defined terrorism, and thus by implication terrorist. Terrorism is the use of violence or threat of use of violence against civilians to push an agenda. How is downsizing equated with violence?

Yes, they both have a historical significance. Even if the Muslims in Arabia and South Americans are still affected by it, the Christian Churches have changed. The Catholic Church has taken most of the blame and has apologised.

You know if you really look closly, it is like our own war for independence. I mean think about it, the British think that we are just some rebels from the empire causin trouble, when really, what Britain was fighting was freedom. And you can't beat an ideal as long as it lives in the hearts of those who believe in it. The biggest problem is you have to eliminate the person in most cases in order to delete that ideal. And how do you really know? Yes, but by constantly creating that fear they gain a level of control over people, on a more emotional level. Opinion is certainly affected by the presence of danger.
Saying that terrorism is caused by poverty is bull. Thinking that if you don't give someone a reason to hate you means that they won't is also bull. The fact is that if you don't believe in what they believe, however twisted their views on Islam are, then they hate you. They have no problem killing Muslims who do not share their corrupted views of Islam. They hate you because you are not Muslim. They hate you because you don't believe in what they believe. They hate you because you have democracy when they don't believe that democracy is good.
And if poverty was the cause of Terrorism, them almost every country in Africa qould be spawning terrorist. No area is poorer than Africa. Yet there are almost no terrorists coming from any of the non-Muslim countries. Comparing big companies setting up shop in poorer countries and paying them less than they would pay here in North America is unfair. Different economy, different region, different culture. If Nike sets up shop in Indonesia, where the average worker makes, let's say, $132 US a month, and they pay their workers $150 US a month, then how is that bad? Just because it's not the $15 or $20/hour they would make here, doesn't mean they are exploiting workers there, especially if they are paying more than the average salary.
In any case, poverty is not the cause of terrorism. Miseducation, brainwashing, and false promises are the cause of it. Palestinians don't like the US, but the U.S has given Palestine tons of money and supports Palestine being an independent country. So what is the reason to hate them?

I don't see any evidence that it is succeeding. As some have said, if you kill or capture a few terrorists you just make more because you have given others a "cause".
I have said this before and I will keep saying it. Unless the muslim majority express their strong condemnation against those who practice terrorism in the name of Islam terrorism will never be stopped amongst radical muslims.
The more that are killed or captured the more who will line up to replace them.
It is up to reasonable intelligent muslims to control the radical element within their religion. Speak out in the mosques, arrest those who break the law by using or advocating violence and make radical muslims unwelcome amongst the muslim community
This will have the effect of limiting the numbers of people willing to join these radical organisations. If they are educated to realise that terrorism is not serving Allah but that it is a blasphemy against Allah every time a terrorist murders civilians.
The most effective war on terrorism that could be carried out by the west would be to ensure that thay do not create hatred by interfering in other countries internal affairs.

Well, the US hasn't been attacked here in several years. (Several attacks have been prevented). Al Quada is constantly having their top guys taken out. They're having financial problems. More and more of the public is starting to see them for what they really are, therefore they are losing support.

humans shouldn't be killing each other.. what for? do they stand to gain? so what if they gain more resources? do we cut the throats of our own kind for personal gains? humans should't be fighting and should work together to make this a better world..

Let me remind you that radical Islam has been terrorizing non-muslims for well over 1,000 years. The United States has been around for less than 300.

Firstly I am a Christian, not a Moslem.
Secondly, you have not addressed my statement that America has brought much of this on themselves.
For example Indonesia.
The American Government through the CIA, and the Australian Government throught ASIO both financialy and militarily supported Soeharto's military takeover of Indonesia in the 60's due to their fear of comunism. The communist party was becoming quite strong here and the then president Sukarno was sympathetic to them, therefore had to go.
The result of this takeover was the murder of well over 500,000 people ,their crime, members or suspected members of the communist party.
Is it any wonder this sort of interference in soveriegn countries affairs creates radical opposition. The fact that most Indonesians are Moslem leads to their labeling as Moslem terrorists.
I am not a supporter of terrorists. I will shoot their arguements for terrorism down any time I can.
But, don't let America play the offended innocent. They are not.
And by the way, have you forgotten the Christian Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition?

Dude don't worry about it. Every post this guy has goes along these lines. America is the best, America is infallable, America is morally superior... Yest he never notes that America has funded Terrorism COUNTLESS times, that through our own actions we have cause a retaliatory backlash against our own people, that we OFTEN play both sides of the agreement (mujahadeen-Afganistan), and that we contibute more to international monetary terrorism than anyone esle in the world.
