An internet user makes an opinion about a website in 50 milliseconds, according to a study by Human-Oriented Technology Lab of Ottawa, published in "Behaviour & Information Technology". During the tests, 100 poeple viewed 125 websites. The results show the first opinion of a website isn't based on it's design or content, but on a biological reaction of
approval or rejection.

This body of mine it's very lazy and in my case 15 seconds must pass before I can give a verdict.
So, how much time do you need to judge a website?

It depends on what you are looking for.
If you surf entertainment sites, then their design plays a big role and you may judge the site on the first look during 15 seconds.
If you are looking for a valuable content (texts, etc.) you will need more time to examine the site.

If there are animated gifs or music I deside the site is crap in 25 milliseconds.

It took me a few days to appreciate FRIHOST, even though I don't even use the webpage facilities.

but research always holds an element of truth.

I wonder how they performed the test to gather the results. I don't see how a person can analyze a site in under a second. Furthermore, their theory about how the process operates at the biological level also appears a little suspect. But who knows.

Creativity and design is everything, but sorely lacking. There are very few websites I see that really knock my socks off. www.tokyoplastic.com is a different matter though... but whether it fulfills its purpose or not is a different question although I could spend hours and hours on it.... Playing with the drums etc. More interactivity is needed I think.

Must have real fast internet in Canada.

Don't know about you guys but I've never seen a web page that will download in 50 milliseconds.
Usually by the time it has finished I've been looking at it appear for a few seconds at least, sometimes minutes. So I've already been making my judgements as each element appears.

How did they conduct this test I wonder?

It doesn't sound very relevant to the real world.

although i noticed that if i go to a website often even if i don't like it's layout i just get used to it and stop noticing

your human body decides in 50 milliseconds , the download speed of a page isn't important

if you're a liberalist you're response will either be emotional or irrational. Neither of these should be pandered to by corporate site designers as they are unlikely consumers as most maintain the inane anti-corporation stance.
