hey you guys there is a new virus out
its supposed to be really really bad
so watch out for it
New viruses come out daily, if not hourly. I would look up statistics for you, but I am too lazy at the moment. However, it's always wise to be vigilant on the computer and run regular scans, etc. Spyware seems to be the new thing on websites.
While worms come out often, this one is pretty big I believe, if it's the same one that has been mentioned countless times on television.
So, these people that write viruses, they must be fairly bright. I wonder why you would put so much effort into something that harms people you don't know.
Hey, is implementing a virus an act of terorism yet, or is it a hate crime?

Its entertainment.
I am aware that virus's come out daily but this is a high risk one so i was saying be sure to update everything ASAP because it will screw windows up badly
Funny, I recently saw an ad somewhere, or link or something to a site that said "Learn to make viruses!"
Do people really do that for entertainment? I can't imagine how it could be beneficial to it's creator, and they usually aren't sent to specific people, as far as I know. I can understand why someone would want to create spyware or adware; it can make them money, but I just don't understand creating viruses.
if the making and sending of a virus is done as "entertainment" then those doing it must be sadder than I thought, being an a***hole is one thing but having such a sad life is really bad, I almost feel sorry for them
i dunno...i think those people are actually the smartest ones out there. the government can't do any harm if they hired those people and have them work for them instead of against. it might be beneficial.
Oh whats the point of telling us LOL when we already know that there a bunch of no lifes out there making all these glitches and bugs/viruses to destroy our computers. I mean whats the point, if they got paid for it i'd understand but just like that for fun, dude come on..

here ill quote a post from my clans forums err,,,

A new virus is set to take hold from 3rd February 2006. Nyxem Virus targets Office & acrobat pdfs.
Word documents, Excel Documents, Powerpoint documents and Adobe Acrobat documents will be trashed on this date!
It infects by email attachments, so be wary about opening attachments from people you do not know!!!
I would recommend scanning with a good quality virus scanner, such as AVG Antivirus Free Edition ( http://free.grisoft.com/ ). On my personal testing Norton Antivirus is again proved useless, not detecting it or being unable to remove. (AVG can run whilst norton is installed)
More info here: http://www.techspot.com/news/20289-countdown-for-nyxem-virus.html |
Apparantly there is supposed to be a virus hitting tommorow called Karma Sutra, Which by its name itself should hit on the 14th. But hits only on the 3rd of every month. It starts off by sending an email about 18+ material and bang it starts. Well thats what I heard. So if you know someone who is always looked up in his/her room or office when opening emails, Better tell them to do their thing another day.
Has anyone scanned their computer and found the virus?
And if you still didn't scan your computer yet, you should start scanning it right now.
lol on some forums these posts are something like
"hey guys theres this new really bad virus out call (blahblah), its really bad clik <here> to see what it does" and then idiots click <there> and download this evil new virus
but seriously the only reason some viruses get mentioned is because more people accidentaly open them and so they become serious, and people blame the anti-virus companies so they all have to patch etc. etc.
Well, the virus didn't do much at all. See the article on Yahoo! News.
Symantec Security Response encourages all users and administrators to adhere to the following basic security "best practices":
Turn off and remove unneeded services. By default, many operating systems install auxiliary services that are not critical, such as an FTP server, telnet, and a Web server. These services are avenues of attack. If they are removed, blended threats have less avenues of attack and you have fewer services to maintain through patch updates.
If a blended threat exploits one or more network services, disable, or block access to, those services until a patch is applied.
Always keep your patch levels up-to-date, especially on computers that host public services and are accessible through the firewall, such as HTTP, FTP, mail, and DNS services (for example, all Windows-based computers should have the current Service Pack installed.). Additionally, please apply any security updates that are mentioned in this writeup, in trusted Security Bulletins, or on vendor Web sites.
Enforce a password policy. Complex passwords make it difficult to crack password files on compromised computers. This helps to prevent or limit damage when a computer is compromised.
Configure your email server to block or remove email that contains file attachments that are commonly used to spread viruses, such as .vbs, .bat, .exe, .pif and .scr files.
Isolate infected computers quickly to prevent further compromising your organization. Perform a forensic analysis and restore the computers using trusted media.
Train employees not to open attachments unless they are expecting them. Also, do not execute software that is downloaded from the Internet unless it has been scanned for viruses. Simply visiting a compromised Web site can cause infection if certain browser vulnerabilities are not patched.

I am the one who click (ahh, this curiosity
), hold the virus in the quarantine, remove it from my system before it does any harm (it takes me not longer than a day)and later my boyfriend edits its code to see how it works. Really great fun
If you wanna get one click WE DONT NEED THOSE LINKS THANK YOU . (EDIT: Don't click here if you aren't sure that you have a good anti-virus software or are able to erase it yourself. I have warned you, and it's not me who published this on the web
)

Which virus? Millions of them
Most of them are removable before they actually do something. Unfortunately not all.
And I don't get what is so special about the new virus, it isn't more dangerous than those existing before, the media are only making fuss, no idea what for. And I simply don't even open e-mails for people I don't know. When I want a virus I download it myself or ask my boyfriend to write me a one
that link the_mariska posted does not work.. anyway, dun post such links.. People who are curious will always click them no matter how u warned them..
Well, I do not think the virus is really that harmful.. It can only spread via email attachments, and who will open executable files? The anti-virus scanners in email services should be configured to detect the virus too..
I dunno, it's an interesting question tho, perhaps it should be a terrorist act... as well as spamming!
Everyone should install windows1Care, if you have windows. It is still in BETA but i've fount nothing wrong with it, get it here: www.windowsonecare.com It gives you messages whenever it thinks your likely to recieve viruses and it controls every program that your PC runs
The only 100% way to avoid viruses is to abstain from watching pornography.
Seriously.

Really? I don't watch porn (I am a girl
) but no matter what I'm searching for, it is everywhere! (so are the viruses). It is pretty annoying.
- wrong section (computer thingy)
- There is more than one virus in the computer world
@the_mariska: don't post those links any more, even with a warning next to it. Thanx
