¡Rammstein Timeline (A detailed History of the band)!

I found the timeline on another Rammstein site, but it was all in German! I translated it into English and changed it myself, as well as adding my own information. As a result some infomation may be a bit dodgy, but I edited it as best as I could and it is very accurate.

As the site I found it on was Austrian, I think that chart positions and release dates are mostly for Germany. This will updated soon with International dates and positions.

To accompany the timeline, here is a brief biography of the group, from VH1:

A brief history of Rammstein:

Formed in 1994 in East Berlin, Germany, this confrontational alternative rock band first came to international prominence when film and television director David Lynch ( Twin Peaks ) declared his admiration and commissioned them to work with him. By this time, Rammstein's explosive, unhinged live shows had already made them famous throughout mainland Europe. The band comprises former Olympic swimmer Till Lindemann (b. 4 January 1963, Leipzig, Germany; vocals), Richard Kruspe (b. 24 June 1967, Wittenburg, Germany; guitar), Paul Landers (b. 9 December 1964, Berlin, Germany; guitar), Christoph Schneider (b. 11 May 1966, Berlin, Germany; drums), Oliver Riedel (b. 11 April 1971, Schwerin, Germany; bass) and "Flake" Lorenz (b. Christian Lorenz, 6 November 1966, Berlin, Germany; keyboards).

Their pyrotechnics earned them comparisons to Kiss, but their frenzied industrial metal sound and dubious lyrics were less obviously commercial. Those lyrics, touching on subjects including child molestation and natural and man-made catastrophes, at first saw them attract a right-wing audience - although the band strenuously deny that this was their intention. Rammstein, allegedly named after the 1988 air show disaster that killed 80, although the word translates directly as "a battering ram made of stone".

They made their debut in September 1995 with Herzeleid, produced in Sweden by Jacob Hellner (previously a veteran of work with Clawfinger ) on a modest budget. Nevertheless, the record sold in excess of half a million copies in Germany alone, and established the band as a potent commercial force. By the time Sehnsucht followed in August 1997, they had extended their popularity via a clutch of headlining appearances at European festivals. Following Lynch's inclusion of two Rammstein songs on the soundtrack to his 1996 movie Lost Highway, US gore-metal fans, who followed controversial acts such as Marilyn Manson and KMFDM, were also won over.

Like Manson, the band were forced to defend themselves after becoming embroiled in the moral outfall from the infamous Colombine High School killings - the two teenage killers had namechecked Rammstein after shooting 15 of their classmates in April 1999.

Although they sing in German, all the band's lyrics are translated in accompanying CD liner notes, adding to their growing international appeal.

Anyways tho, i just read that Germany is ashamed of Rammstien

The article said -

"Last october when Rammstien's new album was due i thought all of Germany would be painted with pictures of there new release but no.
I didn't see a single poster. Germany doesn't like there most famous rock band. They push it away when talked of.
It is thought due to nazi and perverted style the band has had from the begining."

It said alot more i cant think of translating from Icelandic but anyways, you get the picture.

thats some kind of true (i'm german)

1. in germany there is never big commercials for bands, i live in a middle size city, and you have to search hard, if you want to find any kind of public poster for a band
2. with the nazi thing: another band really got dropped off the media when they had their big success, because they had a right-wing extremistcal history
3. maybe is just because not everybody likes rammstein, maybe their appearance and their music is too polarizing
Too bad Rammstein gives people stimulance for racism.
It's not a bad band, but they feel too convinced, if you know what I mean Wink
I'm from Germany too and I really think Rammstein is more popular in other countries than here. I like some of their songs, but I wouldn't consider myself a fan of them.
It is thought due to nazi and perverted style the band has had from the begining.

Hold on a minute! How are Rammstein affiliated with Nazism? – Explain.

It is fair to say that Rammstein have delved into depravity, but I don’t detect any nazism. Are you referring to the album cover of ‘herzeleid’ where the band are standing there with their shirts off? The arguments about them parading themselves as ‘the master race’ were ridiculous. What else has implanted this perceived nazi theme?

Doesn't sound very nazi to me *lol*
The above is a quote from an interview Rammstein's singer Till Lindemann in which he states that he thinks Nazis should be punished harder and that Hitler was an idiot.
also they wrote a hitler song but meh

there was a history before rammstein in this weeks kerrang

Basically the lead guy used to be in a punk band :p
I've to confess I like Rammstein, and most probably all the comments the people ahve been making don't affect me because I don't know a word of German, I've no idea what in the world they might be singing about!
I'd probably lower my musical reputation by saying I've never heard of them.
I don't like them...they play what I don't call music. They do a lot of noises, ok. But they are more trying to schock then to do a good rythm. You don't miss anything Lennon Very Happy

They didn't write a Hitler song, it's another band song that someone said that it was Rammstein's song.

Rammstein's name and song refers to an accident that occuried in an italian air base named Ramstein (with a single 'm').
yeah I work at a radio station with this dude from germany that hates them. I've heard worse bands, but genearlly i'm not all that impressed.
it was an american air base. Smile

It is ridiculous to say "Rammstein are nazis". It may be a little bit "nazi style" and a rolling "R", but they are absolutely no nazis. Paul Landers said: "Wir sind linke Patrioten". -> "We are left-wing patriots."

True, but it's in Germany
The whole town is called Ramstein

Durring a stunt show 2 planes hit eachother and crash in the crowd.

For the band: I love them! the last 2 albums 'Reise, Reise' and 'Rosenrot' are amazing!
I never considered myself to be a Rammstein fan, because they've made a lot of crap. Like their previous album, Reise Reise... Man, was that a load of crap or what?

However, the follow-up, Rosenrot, is actually very good imho. Some of the songs even have some really good lyrics. Though for those who don't speak a word of German, it might be wise to look up the translations of the songs on the net, they're pretty easy to find.

Oh, and I don't know if he still does it, but originally, the singer would set his arms on fire and stand there like an airplane (or you know, a roman cross) while singing "Rammstein".
Just to get it out of the air, im not saying they're nazis.
I just translated a news article, not my words.
Rammstein was in another topic...
