US Government Take Google To Court

Wayne1986
After reading various reports, i have came accross this story a few times now. So i thought i would share this with you.

The US government are now to take google to court to order them to hand over search details.

This came after google denied the US government access to google's earch history.

The US government want their results so that they can research and find out criminals. Such as illigeal downloads and so on.

Google told them that it was against their policy to give out any details of its users details as it breaks the data protection act that the government introduced in the first place.

Should the US government take this further this could be a huge blow to the internet giants.

It could mean millions of people getting fines, even jail sentances. You might aswell have a camera in everyones house.

Google, say they will fight this to the end.

In my opinion, the US govenrment wont allow a company to get bigger than the country. They did the same with microsoft.

Do you really believe? If it was the case, I don't think the government would take Google to court...

I think this is just another demonstration of U.S.' politic of imperialism... The U.S. government wants to control even the searches made through the internet...

Well, that's just my opinion...

Why should the american goverment be able to walk in wherevere they like and take whatever they want! I say go Google for taking on those american spys who want to know everything about everyone .Soon you will have a record on everything you do .I cant realy see catching many criminals by invading google because google doesnt keep lots of presonal info ..... eccept for gmail.

If they get into my gmail and read all my mail im going to make my own country in the middle of nowhere and nuke them!

i bet the US Dictators would even want to keep a record for when i go to the toilet. they would proberly like to give me a life sentance for going the toilet twice in one day.

They are pretty wrong. I support google every step of the way.

At the next elections, i say vote in google to rule both the US and the UK.

I think they would make a better go at it than these idiots envolved now.

Without wanting to sound as though I am having a "dig" at you, but I would dearly love to know how you come to this conclusion ?

Clearly, the U.S. Gov has gone completely power crazy since they were allowed to dupe the U.S. people into allowing the Patriot Act.

I would implore people to actually take the time to read some of this Act. It's extremely scary how much power the govt has now over access to everything that you do.

Yes, I know that it's supposed to prevent terrorism, but if you believe that is the only reason for the Patriot Act, then you all need to leave the "Naive House" and enter the Real World.

I dearly hope that Google Wins, but I eagerly await the results....

Google has made a very good reputation for istelf over the past man years, and rightfully so. When they started off, the were a business with a great deal of integrity, atleast as far as businesses go. However today, despite people who will swear by Google superiority, especially over microsoft, the company has gone the way of big brother. The reason the gov't would even bother with such a lawsuit (and a terribly invasive one at that. if they want kids to stop accessing porn sites, they should offer parenting classes) is because google does store all kinds of information about users usage of the site. They have the tendency to be everlasting with the things they do. Their cookies will not be expired a few thousand years from now, and if you dont take them off you computer (and if it still runs then) they will still be in your cookie file. They have huge databases that track IP's and the things they click. And now they have gmail. Gmail reads your emails for you so they can show you adds that they think you will like. They store the information for unknown lengths of time (meaning they started storing it when they started gmail, and have yet to get rid of it), and even things like messages that get sent to the trash, which should be (because gmail says they will be) permanently deleted after 30 days, are sometimes never deleted (though this has supposedly changed since google was in another lawsuit a short time ago where they lost because it was false). Luckily for me, I just dont care if google spies on me. I say yay for Big Brother, as long as I have convenient email.

I believe that the US-Australia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) includes a bit that is a whole lot like the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) (which the RIAA uses to sue people in the US who illegally obtain music and other media) so I'm pretty sure they could go after you too even though you are in Australia, because of the FTA thing...

If it where Google’s policy to not disclose who is looking up what, then why are they leaving a hard drive open to collect all of this info.????

I was not aware of any use Google has for this info. anyway. Amazon, sure, but what does Google care who is looking for what, as long as they are finding it. If you don’t want to have to disclose some information and it is not totally necessary to have it, you should destroy it.

If you don't trust google, don't use google. Period. Don't moan about it.

I hope Google manages to sort this lawsuit. Otherwise, it will not only destroy the company's privacy policy, but also your own right to privacy.

Perhaps the Bushes should try to walk away of the path to fascism.

Wow. Just wow. I couldnt believe my eyes when I read this. What kind of stupid stunt is the us gov gonna pull next this is ridiculous. Sure it is a bit unneccessary for google to keep such info, but the us government can screw off dont they have more important things to worry about?
