Greetings and a few questions

photographerguy
Hello all,

I've been browsing the forums and there seems to be a pretty good community here. I'm a student so a free web host is a blessing. The host I was using for my site just got new ownership and they kicked everyone off except the top 50 sites. I am not one of the 50 most visited sites. Anyways, I signed up for free business cards and now I have 250 useless cards!!!! So now I bought a domain name so this won't happen again. (I always learn the hard way). A couple of questions:

If I bought domain name xyz.com and want to host it here, when I create a page (ex gallery.htm) will it show up as http://www.xyz.com/gallery.htm in the web browser explorer bar?
I know one option is to have my domain register redirect to this new whatever.frihost.net, but will that show up as http://www.whatever.frihost.net/gallery.htm? or http://www.xyz.com/gallery.htm?

Also can I use cyberduck for mac to upload files?

Has this host been around for a while? Is the downtime minimal?

I think the point/forum post concept is a good one. It promotes conversation and learning for all. I hope I found a new home. Hello and thank you for any feedback.

If you transfer your domain name correctly by renaming your FriHost domain to xyz.com and correctly set your DNS servers with the registrar, it will display as http://www.xyz.com/gallery.html

Sorry - I don't know what this is since I don't run Mac, but as long as it's an FTP program (or a web authoring package with a built in FTP program) then it will work.

It has been around for quite a while (just how long, I'm not sure) and there's not that much of a problem with downtime. If the sites are down, it would be unusual for it to be for longer than a few minutes (although could be longer occasionally). If your site is critical and you can't afford any downtime, you'd be better with a paid solution.

Hope this is all the info you need - good luck with the application and welcome to the community!

Very Happy

Thank you for the information. I'm looking foreward to setting up my site. Is there a way to check how many points I have at the moment?

Duh, never mind, I just noticed my points.
