i searched the term "google" on google, yahoo search and msn search

results were as follows

on google

Quote:

caching and translation of results, and an option to find similar pages.

on yahoo

Quote:
Google

on msn

Quote:
Google

i am a bit surprised to see the description appeared on the 3 search engines. since the source code of www.google.com does not contain any of these descriptions. so from where did these descriptions come from. are they manual entries. is it possible to add manual entries ?

but when i seacrhed for the term "google.co.in" the results were

on google

Quote:
Google

from India. Interfaces offered in English, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, ...

on yahoo

Quote:
Google

Personalized Home | Sign in. India. Web Images Groups News more " Search: the web. pages from India. Google.co.in offered in: Hindi Bengali Telugu Marathi Tamil

on msn

Quote:
Google

Personalized Home | Sign in India Web Images Groups News more Advanced Search Preferences Language Tools Search: the web pages from India Google.co.in offered in: Hindi Bengali Telugu ...

in this case, the results show that google showed its own description not found on the webpage whereas msn and yahoo showed the actual content on google.co.in . so, this also may be suggests that www.google.co.in is a manual entry by google. is it ?
elekis
and when you tape msn, on google, you have that

It's actually 250mb of space. It's either really outdated or a typo.

From what experience I have with respect to adding my site to Google, the description of the sites are sometimes based on the 'Comments' column that you enter while you add the url of your webpage.

The search engines also take into account this information while searching for a particular data.

Some search engines also gather information from other sites which define these sites. Like, Google could be described as "a search engine technology maker" by a definition provider. This can also be taken into account.

More thoughts please.

No way man, you are wrong, this means you can change the description of a page by adding it to google and writting whatever you wish in the comments feild.
