I really hope Google continues to stand up to this, It's fine if the US government wants to get our searches if there is a reason (and thus get a warrant... wire tapping anyone?) but random sampling doesn't help the US's national security.

Also it's somewhat disturbing because many people who use google.com are not US citizens which only muddies the international laws even more...

The thing is, google refused for both the request with ip-information and the one without ip-information. There was no problem with the other search engines so the most logical explanation is that they gave their search data including ip-addresses to the government. In my opinion, that's quite a breach of our privacy.

It's brave of google to stand up against this, but they aren't doing this for our privacy, but because that information is very valuable to them.

I think if you worked it out, US users wouldn't make up half the google searches...

(I mean, what about hugely populated countries liek China - and even "smaller" ones like here in Australia).

There could be no way giving out information (at least with IP's) could ever be legal under international law.

It like when American's started selling land on the moon... what right of ownership do they have over the moon? They can't even give bullet-proof evidence that they even landed there... (I personally think they did, and even if they did no one county should own the moon).

America si one country that need to deflate itself of hot-air - you might be a "super-power" but that doesn't mean you have any more rights to anything than the rest of the world...

(What the hell do they want search results for anyway - in terms of government purposes?)
