i bought seagate 80bg hdd 2 days ago.
i am using hddlife software provided with digit dvd.
it shows health of my old hdd (4yr old) as 76%
while for new seagate hdd (2days old) it shows 46%.
why it is so. i am woorying as new hdd have health very less than old one.
are these health predictions right.
please explain.
Try change this disk to another one. If your smart program show about 50% health again, simply return it and buy something else (for ex. Samsung, Maxtor DiamondMax or WD). I'm not sure you know that large HDD are much more fragile then old -up to 40 GB- disks. I had 10GB hdd few years ago, and someday it fell on the floor, when I picked id up it worked without badsectors.
My advise is change disk before your guarantee end.
I just downloaded a demo of HDDlife Pro... It's a very nice program!
Anyway, 46% is pretty bad, you probably should return it and exchange it for a new one. I'd suggest either Maxtor or Western Digital.
I've got a fairly new Western Digital hard drive, and here's the statistics for it:
Temperature: 43 degrees celcius (It's about 30 degrees in my room)
Work time: 23 days 16 hours (568 hours)
Health Status: OK (81%)
Performance: Excellent (81%)
they just need you to PAY them MONEY.
My new hard drive that WILL work 15-30 years is 64% healt??
I need to take a crovbar and hit it then it will be 64% heath....
u prolly got a dodgy drive
just get it exchanged
new seagate drives come with 5 years warranty ( well where i reside neway)

this program sounds intresting, i think i'll also check it.
the program sounds like a piece of crap. how can it possibly tell the health of the HDD? sounds like it is probably built on a grain of fact, then blows that one fact up to prove that your hdd is unhealthy. i'd be very skeptical using this program.
Although I don't trust the software you are telling, but you need to get your HDD changed man... Buy Samsung or Maxtor
