Gasoline prices have been a bit crazy lately. Many people have been saying that they have been too high. A few month ago, gasoline was $3.50/gallon, and people were upset in the US. They even slowed down their purchasing of huge gas drinking SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicle). However, the actual fact is that gas prices have been low and have only recently come back up to were they where in the early 80s.

I was actually glad. I heard an estimate a year before that stating that if gas went above $3.50 then, it would finally start to influence the average American vehicle purchase. This theory was proven quite accurate, however, I wouldn’t put money on less than $4.00.

In my opinion burning this stuff is a sin! We are a fairly advanced society and we should be working toward better ways to heat our homes and putter around town. Petrol is so important to the chemical and plastics industry it really makes me cringe.

What is your attitude about the whole thing? Would you pay more for fuel to spur energy research?

I remember when gas was only 45.9/litre it's crazy but guess what we are stillpaying for it. It's all about supply and demand and yes I know that there are other factors but what if we all decided not to buy any gasoline for a week do you think there may need to be a change on the way we are thinking. Have you ever noticed that the prices went up while everyone was and still are buying SUVs hmmm maaybe some connection there.

Gas prices must rise quickly if we hope to drop it as a national fuel.

Low gas prices means a failing of the market economy. Oil is running out, this is a fact. whether we have a few years or a few decades is unknown.

The only way to wean the developed nations off gas is to jack the price up, make it less affordable then alternative power sources.

A gallon is about 3.78 liters, so you think that $3.50 is too much for 3.78 liters? That's less than a buck per liter. That makes about 80 eurocents a liter. Here you pay about 1.35 per liter currently, would be about $1.60 per liter, somewhere between 6.80 and 7 bucks or something a gallon. Those people should just stop whining since they're still paying absolutely nothing for it, you're definately not having a hard time with prices like those.

I would really say anywhere from $1.90 - $2.50.

Why are we complaining? Some countries are paying $6-$10 for gas equivalent to a gallon.

Don't forget that in these countries the gas is that expensive because of taxes....

Also, the US uses lots of gas because it is huge and populated relatively evenly. In other words, people drive a lot to get everywhere.

well our gas prices here are about 2.45 a gallon
not terrible it did go up to 3.90 a gallon >_<
but they have so much oil in reserve it should never go that high

well, here in the philippines, oil price hike has been a common thing ever since I can remember, last year alone, i think that it went up 5 or more times.

hence a lot more strike and did i tell you that fare went up two times last year? I do hope it becomes stable soon.

Yeh, we get high taxes.... We don't get higher salaries though so what is the problem which you guys have? You actually have to pay for things? Stuff has never been free in this world and it most likely never will be.

As for the having to drive to get everywhere, that's the same in every country. It doesn't matter where you live, if you don't live in a city you'll always be having to drive to get somewhere.
