now its time for VDSL

chennai
now its time for VDSL.VDSL stands for very-high-bit-rate DSL.VDSL offers over 54Mbps.At this kind of a high rate, y could download a movie in 30 minutes.Unlike DSL and broadband hich uses telephone wires and cables VDSL uses fibre-cum-twisted pair copper wire. In japan NTT CHARGES ONLY $2 per month over the cost of a ADSL service. But the only problem is that the laying of fibre-copper wires takes a lot of work, time and money.the newer version of VDSL called VDSL-2 offers more than 100Mbps both upstream and downstream

Wow thats a ridiculas amount! I think the highest i have seen here is 22mb and thats wireless and only 9.99 a month, but you got to live near a huge arial thing or something, i got excited when i was getting 1mb broadband >_>
speedlikecy
wow!!!! Shocked Shocked

so good!!!!

i am waiting,,,,vdsl

What an incredible bandwidth! Shocked

Since I'm from Italy, though, I think we'll be able to subscribe to it starting from 2026... Twisted Evil
Paul Knight
Sounds good in principle , but I reckon it'll be a long way off in the UK. They only just finished digging up all the pavements 10 years ago when Cable came out.

The VDSL people will have to get people to pay an installation fee to cover the costs of installing all the cables, so I doubt the inital outlay will be cheap.

ISPs offering more speed, hardware vendors offering portable music devices with audio ripping

Its illegal to download movies, its illegal to download music. No sane person is going to pay for mp3 "quality" music.

exactly what are we expected do with the bandwidth?

Hey some people like having a fast connection!
I remember you posting about a fancy modem/router you bought a few weeks ago?

At what speed is there no negligible difference in page loading? 15mBs? 30mBs? Why not pay for OC48?

Hey don't ask me. All I'm saying is that some people like having a fast connection... even if it's only for statistics. Besides, why do you assume that all downloads are illegal? The trial version of Soundforge is around 40mb.

So, aren't you a speed/technology freak?

And 3D Mark 05 is a 282 Mb download. Admittedly not the most entertaining of programs, but there you go.
rvec
lol i think there are a lot bigger programs online. And if everyone gets 100mb up/down then it's easyer to share movies you made of your vacation. Or all the 500 pictures. If i upload a movie to someone with only 1mb upload it might take some time Razz
AlexC
wow, 100mbps is unreasonably fast.... your right; fast internet connections practically promotes movie and music downloading. alot of small time artists go out of business and loose all of their money because of people downloading their songs instead of paying for the CD.... i personally dont download any music / moovies ( but then again i have 56k dial up Razz ) so i think the ADSL 2 is the fastest internet connection that is needed.....

but then again it would be cool to be able to do pretty much anything on the net Very HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery Happy

I think DSL is fine.
Unless you're downloading something HUGE. You don't need that much speed. For surfing the internet, and downloading songs you don't need much.
Even the videos on iTunes are pretty fast on DSL.

And It's EXPENSIVE if you want it somwhere besides a big city.

Large softwares as well as movies can be sold online. It will save time for the buyer.

When online payment can be maid, why online softwares should not be recieved after payment.

Many free softwares are also avialable on internet, which are huge in size.

I'm quite happy with my 1.5Mb/s ADSL. Once my exchange is upgraded, I'm upgrading to ADSL2+ (up to 24Mb/s, depending on distance from exchange and phone line quality)

OC48? Why stop there? Why not go all the way to OC192? Very Happy Seriously though, OC-3 (155Mb/s) is already pretty exensive (average cost $20,000-$45,000 per month)
jongoldsz
What is the point of making VDSL? FIOS technology can offer huge amounts of bandwidth without making any changes to the cables running from the ISP to a persons house.
Srs2388
wow OC192?

Yeah, OC192. OC192 is a fibre optic connection running at 9.6Gb/s!

Yeah, not many people can afford it Wink. Data centres have even more bandwidth than that, though (OC3 = 155Mb/s, data centres usually have a few Gb/s of bandwidth)
TonkPilz
here in sweden we olready have farly high access to fiber ther are a few ISP's that provide 100/100 mbit conn's via fiber and olmost all isp provide 24mbit conn adsl here (tho all offer 24mbit down the upp strem vary from 5mbit too 18mbit depending on the isp ) i have a 16/3 conn soon to be a 17/5 1ns the station gets its uppgrade

BBB (bred bands bolaget) : offers adsl upp too 24mbit and fiber 100mbit
sunet: have a 16 Giga bit conn but that only goes to big companys and schools and any 1 living close to schools that have it i have heard rumors that some ppl living close to the schools gets it free 16 Gbit con free (droooool)

but as the internet is now we dont need more conn for surfing we need faster servers

Downloading is legal in some countries, in general most in Europe even. This results in products like the lamax box, which you can check here:
http://www.lamabox.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1&lang=en

This box is something which you can connect to your television and through it's integrated P2P applications you can download movies to your disk to watch it. Makes it rather easy to watch whatever you'ld like Wink.

Uploading is illegal, that's the only downside, but that can be disabled if you would want to play safe. So nice to live in a country where it's legal to download anything you'ld like for personal usage Razz.

So well yeh, for downloads speed is nice, but there is more. Hosting game servers yourself will definately become possible this way, running a host on a 1mbit upline in example just won't do much good, so higher speeds will perform much better. Also you could think of hosting other things for yourself as well, in example web/mail/database server(s). It just opens many more possibilities.

You could even run your own MMO emulators much easier this way, since on slow connections that's just impossible. And yet again, MMO emulators are illegal, since in this case no copyrighted material is being used in any way, the server side is just a similar product to the original product which just tends to work with the original client software Wink.

good grief Dude, are you one of those peope that actually drives the speed limit on the road?? I do 85 on the PA Turnpike when it's posted 65. I download whatever I want. Some rules are ok to break as long as no one innocent gets hurt. The RIAA are selfish dicks, a song here a movie there is no worries.
Dont be such a boy scout. Rolling Eyes
Slammer
Over here NTL are upgrading us all for free to 10mbit connections by the middle of the year/end of the year. And still the same cost as before Smile we'll never pay more than what we are at the moment! That will do me fine for now, but 100mbit/s would be sweet as!

Welcome to the future of the Cable/Telecom industry.............

Everybody wants to increase the bandwidth what the customer can download but not RIAA they don't like it to see ppl able to download 1 GB movie in 30 mins...............

I heard some folks from Sweden experimenting 5GBPS from Sweden to US....

Sure, assuming that your download downloads at maximum speed with no other connections running or anything that uses up speed. And by the way, it's 20 seconds for your standard movie download. Not that I've downloaded movies before, or anything.

my country is slow in offering such services.. currently, if we want the fastest speed, it's cable.. they dun offer better speeds..
