In your second picture, shield and helm models have maximum - 16 sides. Add number of sides up to 40 to make models smoother! Also horns - raise height number up to 30 and then perform BEND action.

Perform displacement effect to the ground plane to create illusion of landscape. You can also use displacement map in mat. library.
I hope this simple picture, that I've modeled to help you understand what I mean, will show you the differences in smoothness.
