HOSTEL=MESSED UP MOVIE

djcaution
Just thought my experience with this movie was worthy of sharing. I went to see the movie hostel last night on opening night and all I can say is WOW that movie is messed. Younger people or people who havent been exposed to much of the say, seedier, underground qualities of Europe will learn aaallllll about it, in it's finest glory, for the first half of this movie to say the least. I've never seen a movie do something so wabam in-your-face this is how it is! When the gore starts half way through, oh buddy it only keeps getting worse. Once it was over and everybody was slowly filtering through the exit of the theatre, never have I heard an ENTIRE theatre of people ALL saying how sick and twisted the film was to each other it was pretty funny. This is the goriest, most twisted movie I've ever seen. Strangely enough I like the movie just as much as I dislike it though, as screwed up as it is it was very well done. I'd never watch it again though (well, the first half was fun..) Cool

Well, when Sin City first came out... couple of people actually left during the middle of the movie because it was gory...

I'm not sure if I want to see this film. It DOES look interesting though. If I do, I probably won't have anybody to go with as my girlfriend doesn't like scary movies Surprised

I saw it today and i must say yes its gory, really gory but yet arent we all kind of numb to all this gory flicks? I mean it does absolutely nothing with me, at the other hand when i watch Japanese or Korean movies with gore in it (althou not in so drastic amount) those really have an impact on me, so i would say its not only the amount of gore that counts, its about how they can manage to get under our skin.

Not exactly. It was produced by Tarrentino, but it was directed by somebody else.

As for the "gore", there wasn't all that much. It actually cuts away 75% of the time for dramatic effect. Most of the "gore" is not shown so that your sub-conscience registers it instead, thereby giving it a creepier effect.

It probably would have been way better if Tarantino directed it. That guys is amazing and so creative.
Hosel was pretty good anyway, though. It's better than all the other movies that are coming out these days...

WORST MOVIE EVER

quoted by me.

My fiance and I saw the trailer for it and we were like, wow, yea that looks like an awesome movie to go and see. Well it is a good movie if you like to pay $10 to go and see a cheap porn/cheap rip of a Jason movie. Fortunatly I didn't get to see the ending due to the fact that we both walked out of the movie. Yes we got our money back but from what I heard about that night, we were not the only ones who walked out. If I had my time back I wouldn't even go and see that garbage in the first place. Now if you are a teen and you like seeing a bit of T&A for the first 3/4 of the movie, then yes by all means go and see it. But if there is anyone out there who thinks it is a good horror movie, you are totaly mistaken. Don't go by the trailer, go by reviews of others. I mean you find out who the killer is when he does his first killing. How stupid is that?

If you would have stayed for the ending, you would have seen that there is more to the "killer". You left before the payoff. To avoid a spoiler, I wont say what it was. If interested, Im sure you can google it or PM me.

I am an avid fan of horror films, and I feel this was a very well put together film. The story was original, and the some of the plot twists were completely unexpected. Definitely not a Friday the 13th ripoff.

Apparently the guy that produced the movie got the idea (for the script) from a website in Thailand where you can go and pay $60 USD to shoot someone in the head.

Interesting... Twisted Evil

It sounds pretty good, I'll have to download it. Which I'm doing now. Unfortunately, I can't leave my laptop on overnight because the fan is screwed and it will overheat and reboot (I live in Australia and it's something like 40 degrees celcuis (104 farenheit)). So progress is slow Sad
Lol, the only way my computer isn't rebooting now is coz it's directly under the airconditioning. Go aircon.

It was a pretty awesome movie and yes very bloody -sometimes a plus- but i think all the hype about people having heartattacks and stuff at its first showing was faked hype. Hollywood's notorious for it plus they have easy access to actors and media reporters at the click of a couple o fingers. Anyhow theres been alot of talk about this. Aparently the story the movie is based upon surrounds an urban legend but alot of people go missing on vacation and recent investigations have pointed towards the realization this kind of sick twisted crap might just be happening in some way similar to this movie which makes it all the more scary -my g0d!!!!- anyhow i thought it was great go see it if you want a shock but not necessarily a huge fright.

I went to see this on the basis of the fact that it was a Tarantino movie - and it turns out that it was written & directed by someone else. (although, apparently, Tarantino did more writing than he's credited for.)

I found it quite implausible in terms of its storyline - some of the characters were ridiculous (the guy from Amsterdam who told them to go to Bratislava was really awful, the acting was dire) and the premise of the whole pay-to-kill thing seemed a bit far-fetched. Apparently it is inspired by a website which the director & Tarantino both saw which neither of them really thought was for real.

Syxxgage - I don't know where you saw this movie, but in Canada I can't think of a single thing which wasn't explicitly shown. Eyeballs being chopped out, chests being drilled into with electric drills, Achilles tendons being cut, ... it's all there. This was the most disgusting and explicitly violent /gory movie I have ever seen. Bar none!

This was never supposed to be a horror movie where you were wondering who the killer was, though. It wasn't at all scary - just really quite disturbing in that it was so gratuitously violent.

Just my personal opinion. I guess after years of watching these type of films, I've become highly desensitized. For the average viewer, this WAS a bloody film, but for me and my circle of firends, we found it to be relatively mild. I didn't mean to convey the notion that it was a bloodless movie. Sorry bout that.

I loved this movie. I thought the story was good with a good twist at the end. It is really dark, one of the most gruesome movies I have seen (I'm a big fan of gruesome). Someone said Sin City was bad, I thought the whole comic book vibe made it not that bad.

Anything with Quentin's name on it is good in my opinion.

i guess it depends on the culture and visual feasting ur accustomed to... i saw the trailer and that was it for me, i'm not into this kind of stuff. but the tag that it was derived from a 'probable' account was intriguing... anyone else has any notion if such things are actually around somewhere in the world? *shudders

QT and the director saw a news story on television and decided to take the idea and turn it into a film.

i havent seen hostel but i know its by the same guy who did saw if im not mistaken. Saw was great and i was wondering if it is good. My friends say the amout of gore is minimal and that it is a waste of time. Imdb gave it a 6.2 out of 10. I would enjoy hearing your opinions.

Maybe I'm not qualified for a reply here, as I myself haven't seen the movie, but for anyone reading up on the movie before they go and see it, let me say this:

My girlfriend and I differ in our movie tastes a lot. I'm a fan of scary/suspense movies, she's a fan of horror/gory flicks. I can handle gore just fine, but when it's really authentic looking it can kinda gross me out, or when it's insatiably dark/morbid, as in Hanibal where the guy is sitting at the table with his brain exposed and he's doped outa his mind, and he ends up eating his own brain...it wasn't the fact that you could see all that, it was the hideous non-chalantness about it. My girlfriend on the other hand can watch people getting chopped up, blood spilling, etc., no problem. She came back from watching Hostel and said she actually started gagging in the theater, and while retelling some of the grosser parts, she had to run to the bathroom to throw up.

So, there ya go. Obviously, people are effected differently by different things, but all I know is any movie that can make my girl throw up has GOT to be something extremely gruesome.

If you read my previous post, I'm not a fan of gore flicks. Saw was AWESOME. I thought it was very well done, and the ending...well, I can tell what's gonna happen at the end of a movie usually before it's 1/3 through...this one surprised me. I definitely recommend it.

I actually didn't like the film, the actually action is only set till after the first half, which just kept me waiting for over 40 minutes to be impressed, but it wasn't good enought. I reallt expected more of this film. I think i enjoyed saws 2 a bit more.
jammin420s
I havent seen it, but it doesnt look very well made or directed. It seems patchy and as if i has no plot. Thriller type movies are getting to be overrated and are getting suckier as the years keep passing.
k7leetha
I've seen reviews from all over the internet, and it's pretty much all the same: goriest film, grossest film, bloodiest film, disgusting, sick, and horrifying are the most popular terms. Not much said about being good, well written, or anything of the sort.

Quentin Tarantino is a fine writer, and I enjoy a large portion of his films, and yes, I know that he wasn't the writer of this one, but I hope he got it out of his system.

I think the bottom line is Hostel was written purely for shock value, nothing more. "Let's see how many people puke."
