A federal appeals court ruled Monday that the U.S. government has an expanded authority to use wiretaps and other surveillance techniques in its efforts to track suspected terrorists.
The court's ruling said that expanded powers to wiretap those suspected in foreign terrorist operations – including U.S. citizens – outlined in the U.S.A. Patriot Act do not violate the Constitution.

Just in case you missed it... Nov. 18, 2002, 5:30pm EST
sources, my friend, sources.
This is interesting news... worth debating.
Wouldn't want it junked for lack of sources.

Why post sources? You'll just dismiss them as biased or irrelevant...
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/engenda_preview/updates/court_11-18-02.html
Yes I will, if they are irrelevant or biased.
Primarily because I hate hypocrisy (Eg: Criticizing "lieberal media", then going on and using conservative-biased media as the basis for all your own posts)
And also because someone tried to pass off a humour satire as a real news story some time back... no name-taking, but I trust we both know who I'm talking about.
Also you seem to NOT GET THE CURRENT POLITICAL SITUATION. Perhaps if you were more well informed ( all it takes is a few minutes to read the newspaper, albeit concisely ).
The issue here is of the actual Patriot Act, and whether it stays in Power. The Patriot act was passed some time ago...that a court will rule such a verdict is obvious....why....because there's a frikkin Patriot Act.
All the judge is saying is that it's allowed...why...not because he personally thinks it should...but because its written down.
Is it that hard to get?
The Patriot Act is being fought over, the judge can do nothing even if he wanted to as long as its in effect.
Also, and this is much more important. You keep talking about comprehension problems. Well I'm sorry to say you exhibit the symptoms of comprehension deficit disorder.
Perhaps if you had pasted the whole story here than you would have let people know the entirety of the proceedings, in which the judge clearly states that US-Citizens who are suspected terrorists can be wire-tapped ( this is nothing new, the same goes for Mob/Mafia dons ).
If you ask a lawyer, as I did ( it sometimes helps to have a lawyer in the Family )...

Let me explain, more slowly. . .
U.S Citizens....
who are suspected
of Terrorist activities...
may be wire-tapped...
for such wire-tapping to be organised...
the reason(s) for the person being suspected...
must be put forth.
This is not the same as:
U.S Citizens....
Who are not suspected...
of Terrorist Activities...
Or Are Suspected...
without sufficient reason and/or evidence...
may not be wire-tapped...
because of the lack of the aforementioned reason(s)/evidence.
which is precisely what happened.
Again, a summary: The judge allows US Citizens Who are suspected ( i.e., the suspicion has been backed up before the wire tapping ) and not anyone and everyone who the Pres. just says " wire-tap !". There are technicalities, procedures and safe-guards to protect against such abuse, which were unfortunately by-passed.
Thanks For Playing Evil-Kneival.
Game Over.

Yes I'm afraid we know who you're talking about.
*sigh*
Oh, look, more denial that what shrub did was legal...

Its too much work copying and pasting the denial of the three monkeys photograph so i'll just:
<< 3 GOP Monkeys In Denial Picture Here >>
Why don't you reply to the topic ?
Wait.
You don't have to answer that.
*sigh*
Maybe you should start a new thread now that you can't go on with this one.

The topic of this thread, in case you forgot how to read, is | Quote: |
| COURT UPHOLDS EXPANDED U.S. WIRETAPPING POWERS |
The topic of the article I posted, in case you refuse to read it, is | Quote: |
COURT UPHOLDS EXPANDED U.S. WIRETAPPING POWERS |
Of which, the first sentence reads...
| Quote: |
| A federal appeals court ruled Monday that the U.S. government has an expanded authority to use wiretaps and other surveillance techniques in its efforts to track suspected terrorists. |
Please come up with some better spin before you run off at the mouth again.
My bad, my bad.
The word " topic " has now been changed to " issue here " .
Perhaps that will help you understand.
The court has rightly upheld wire-tapping powers...
....that is, the power to wire-tap suspected US Citizens.
the key word there being...
....suspected.
and by suspected I don't mean...
" gee Bob, that ol' man dare he lookin' bit funny tewwowist type dontcha think "...
... I mean that you have to have to have documentation, evidence, warrants.
Ask a legal representative near you.
Running through your mind?
Or out of it?
Rightiwing activists, analysts and commentators lack the quality of shallow demagoguery nessesary to simply attatch the appelation "illegal" to everything a standing democrat may do.
Plus, the MSM and entertainment industries are comprised mostly of leftists, and there is much synergy between the two. This allows them to mix fiction with fact.
Hense, Clinton was a "good" President while Bush is a "bad" one.

Clinton NSA Wiretapped Top Republican
During the 1990's under President Bill Clinton, the National Security Agency conducted random telecommunications surveillance of millions of phone calls daily under a top secret program known as Echelon.
But according to at least two people familiar with the spy operation at the time, some of the surveillance was far from indiscriminate.

Clinton was a good guy?
Who told you that?
Most liberal voters didn't vote for him when Bush stood up.
He screwed up.
Now is that ( again and again and again ) the only argument you have?
That if someone's done something illegal, and gotten away with it
Then Bush can ( and should ) too?
But then again
Thats the way Republican Philisophy goes.
If you can't beat 'em at the dirty work...join 'em.
( and later on say " hey he did toooo ! " )
