NFL coaches

mrblah
Seems like a bad couple of days for some NFL coaches. Anybody think some of them will be coaching again next season. I think Mike Martz will be a on another next season. This looks like a really bad year for coaches.

So far six coaches are gone.

Chiefs - Dick Vermeil retired
Texans - Don Capers fired
Vikings - Mike Tice fired
Rams - Mike Martz fired
Saints - Jim Haslett fired
Packers - Mike Sherman fired

Lions - fired their coach a couple weeks ago

Jets - Herman Edwards is close to being fired
Cardinals - Dennis Green is close to being fired

I honestly don't see why these coaches would be hired by any other teams, but I do believe some of them will be because teams like to recycle coaches. I believe Herm Edwards and Dennis Green will have the best chance of getting another job - if they are fired. I don't see any of the FIVE that have already gotten fired getting another chance, and Vermeil won't, unless he wants it.

Norv Turner's gone now too, but that was pretty much inevitable.

I'm sure Edwards and Martz will get new jobs, but some of the others have already been fired more than once so I doubt they'll get a shot in the NFL again, but maybe a college position might open up for them.

Man, I have to say I didn't expect Mike Tice to be fired. Sure, the Vikings had some organizational problems (boat trips) in the beginning, but he managed to take them to a winning season. Herman Edwards could possibly be the successor to Dick Vermeil's job.

Yeah, now that Mike Sherman got fired, I think Brett will finally retire. I mean, he used to be good, but now he sucks. He won his last game, he is injured, and his team sucks. Why not retire? He also said he would never play for another coach besides Sherman.

I agree with the person who said Herman Edwards might go to the Chiefs.
mrblah
I don't understand why another team would want Herm Edwards so bad. Especially if they have to give up a draft pick for him. His Team hasn't done that great over the last few years.

As long as Bill Cowher keeps coaching I'm happy. I love my Steelers. He holds the record for staying with a team the longest, doesn't he?

He is currently the longest with 14 seasons at Pittsburgh, but he is not close to the record!

The record belongs to Curly Lambeau, of the Green Bay Packers, who coached them for 31 years. Tom Landry is next with 29 seasons at Dallas, and then is Don Shula with 26 seasons at Miami.

Bill Cowher isn't even the coach who has coached the Steelers the longest, as that would belong to a guy named Chuck Noll, who coached them for 23 years.

The Chiefs are now already in talks with the Jets to try to acquire Herm Edwards.

As a long-time New Orleans Saints Fan (check out my website....it's in my sig)
I can say it's finally a relief that Haslett is gone. It's been a long time coming.
I only wish we could get rid of the General Manager too.
I really can't say who is being considered. I know the offensive coordinator for the Bengals name is being mentioned along with the Defensive coordinator of the Giants.

Really though, I think we need a new GM (a new owner would be nice too!)

Use to be good?

In my opinion, he's still pretty damn good. It's just his offense was plagued with injuries and in a team game, you can't be a one man offense. Jevon Walker, Favre's favorite Wide Reciever playmaker went down with a season ending injury. Ahman Green also went down with a season injury along with Green's backup and Green's backup backup.

There is only so much you can do. I think any behind any competent offensive line and good wide recievers, Favre would thrive.

Yeah if Green Bay finds a "West Cost Offense" style Coach, I think he could go 2-3 years. I just hate hearing every year if he's going to retire. Green Bay is also in the NFC north which means any team there can go to the playoffs unless you are the Detroit Lions. Farve can't throw can't put up playstation numbers anymore but he's more than just average still.

Not a Saints fan but I definitely second the assertion that Tom Benson is a douche.

And I do think that Favre has a couple more years, but maybe he should retire anyways because sometimes it doesn't look like his head is in it anymore.

I think it is pretty pathetic that so many coaches are being fired, why hire these guys in the first place if you have no intention on investing in them as much as you do the players. Maybe the team owner should not be so concerned about wins and loses and focus on creating a good environment in which player can be successful and then maybe that would lent to vicory in the future.

I'm from Rochester, which is near Buffalo, where we like to lynch either a coach, a quarterback, or a GM every year whether we need to or not.

Two years ago we fired Williams, who is coaching the defense in Washington and has a game this week. As the Bills do not.

Last year, Bledsoe won 6 striaght games and had a 3 game stretch where the Bills scored more points than any three games in Buffalo history. His reward? He was "fired" two weeks after the season.

This year, upon these two "brilliant" moves, the Bills were 4-11.

As we move forward I take heart in the battle cry of all FRAUDS, "Lets look to the future"...

The problem with older quarterbacks is that if a young guy throws an interception he is inexperienced and needs work. If an old guy throws the same interception, "he is too old".

Farve can chuck it "almost" like "none other".

I don't see Green Bay as being loaded next year so I think he should retire. But, I mean no disrespect, "I know his kind".

He just loves playing football on Sunday afternoon. He would play for nothing, but why turn down millions?

Over the years I respected the man more over time, I wish him the best, and whatever he decides will be fine...

this year wasnt all that bad for coaches only 4 i think got canned, ussually 7 or 8 get canned. so i think coaches are doing better.

some coaches i thing shouldnt have got fired because of lack of talent. especially what happened to the vikings.
mrblah
I think Tice just couldn't control his players good enough. If the Vikings had some dictator style guy like TomCoughlin they might have done a lot better this year. Don't get me wrong, I think guys with styles like Tom Coughlin only last for a couple of season and then the players just don't care.

i agree but how are you supposed to put a winning season together to save your job when your star qb is done for the season

I don't think he too old, just needs the right receivers and offense at 100%. A good defense couldn't hurt either. Football is in his blood and to retire wold shame his dreams and his fathers. He loves his fans and he is loyal. People always put words in other peoples mouths and misinterpet everything. I have been a Packer Fan since I was born and I will always be. I moved to FL from Wis, and I still a loyal Packer Fan. Will wait another 30 years for a SuperBowl if needed!!

I'm not sure what will happen but I don't think Martz will land another job. His career as a head coach is over... maybe he'll become an assistant but not head.
Michael Wilson
Packers new head coach Mike McArtny woudl gain a lot of credibility and a lot of hatrid if he just cut Favre.
